Message for reflection – Sis.Angelica

How you listen

We were taught to do the following  exercise in a group.  5 persons were needed. An outsider will call A and narrate  something  in front of  the audience.  B,C,D and E were sent out. I was in the audience.  A has to listen carefully, grasp the matter, then  call B and tell him what he heard from the outsider. Then A will be sent out . B will call C and tell him what he heard. C will do the same  to D and D to E.  Finally E will narrate it to the audience. All is done in front of the audience. The matter was completely different when it came to the audience from E. We had enough to laugh. It was a game to measure  human beings capacity  of grasping a matter and sharing it with others.

Jesus said,

So pay attention to how you listen Lk 8:18

The children of God have to listen from the Heavenly Father daily. The way you listen and grasp the message of the Father  is very important. Today the image of Christianity is very low among non Christians because  many Christians do not  hear  directly from the Father. But they interpret and share  it in their own way from what they have heard from their predecessors. The heavenly Father wants every one of His  children to hear directly from Him .

How to listen and grasp the message? When you pray and are in the presence of the Father, follow your mind, your conscience, your imagination and all your inner elements. When the Holy Spirit  touches you, your spirit get stirred up. It might  reflect in any part of your inner man or outer man.  Your inner man (human spirit)  can sense, feel, or see it.  God is not outside of you.  He is inside of you. Don’t seek him outside. He communicates with your spirit. If your spirit is alert, alive, keen to listen, sharp to grasp and sensitive, you will catch the message.

First time I typed in the docs using my mobile. When I read it only I realised the mistakes in my pronunciation.  Then I could correct it.

When you are in prayer, listen. If you surrender fully your body, soul and spirit to the Lord before you pray, He will speak and give you the reply immediately. (Is 65:24). What you heard in your soul, saw in your mind, sensed in your heart is the reply the Lord is giving. Share it  and check it with the person for whom you received the message. If it is correct, you have listened and grasped the matter correctly. If it is wrong, pay attention to how you listened. Correct the mistakes and try again. Go on trying until you grasp the answer from  the Lord correctly. Make it a routine.

What is Troop church ?

There is an earnest search among the believers across the world for a real Church where a person can commune with God and relate to his fellow brethren. After trials and experiments the Indian Church is forming “Troop Church”.

The Army of Jesus was experimenting with the “Troop Church” for the past 20 years. Started in the year 1998, it has so far registered thousands of  troops . The experiment with Troop Church has been successful.

  1. It has independent first line second and third line Troop Churches.
  2. It has raised many leaders, pastors, prophets, counselors and other ministers and gospel workers.
  3. It has no visible leader or hierarchical structure
  4. It has no office, no full timer, no paid worker etc.
  5. No organizational (hierarchical) set up.
  6. No money collection or transaction.
  7. No election, board, Committee etc.
  8. Every Troop Church trains up believers in their gifts like worshipping, preaching, prophecy etc.
  9. Since the mother troop disperses and starts new troops after 2 months, there is no stagnancy.
  10. No pollution or corruption with money or power.
  11. The two wings of Troop Church are Decentralisation and Multiplication .

Prophecy NEWS Updates

Evangelists, Private Jets, Generosity, and Stewardship

As followers of Jesus, how should we react to the news that Jesse Duplantis claims that God told him to buy a $54 million jet for his ministry?

Should we condemn him for taking the prosperity message to its logical extreme?

Should we say, "That's between him and God?"

Or should we say, "How do I help the man of God travel in style? Where do I give?"

According to Duplantis, he wasn't asking his followers for money. Rather, he wanted to inform them so they could believe God with him for the jet. And, he said, "I'm not asking you to pay for my plane."

Regardless of why he made the initial announcement (I'll leave that between him and God), let's look at four unhealthy reactions to his announcement. Then, I'll suggest the real questions we need to ask.

The first unhealthy reaction is based on hyper-gullibility. "We dare not question the man of God. If he says God told him, then it must be so. We don't want to touch the anointed."

In my newest book, Playing with Holy Fire, I noted that gullibility was one of the hallmark weaknesses of the Pentecostal-Charismatic church. (I say this as insider, not an outsider.) It's the flip side of one of our hallmark strengths, which is faith. But it is a dangerous flip side.

God calls us to discernment, to mature faith. Everything must be tested by the Word of God.

If we believe whatever our leaders tell us, no matter how outlandish, we could end up in a Jim Jones-type personality cult. If we test things by the Word of God (and by other practical tools the Lord gives us), we will save ourselves a lot of trouble.

The second unhealthy reaction is based on hyper-criticism. Some Christian critics have already damned Duplantis to hell. To paraphrase, "This is proof he's a wolf in sheep's clothing! We always knew he was a deceiver."

Actually, unless we can show that he himself is not a true Christian leader - either by his doctrine or by his life - then this one announcement does not prove that he is a false teacher. Let his ministry (along with all of our ministries) be evaluated fairly, biblically, and comprehensively.

For critics to jump to sweeping conclusions about a leader based on this one announcement is no better than for charismatics to believe everything that leader says.

The third unhealthy reaction is based on hyper-prosperity. "God wants the best for His children," some say. "So, if you're going to get a private jet for your ministry, get the best. God is not a pauper!"

This appears to be a principle Paul and his colleagues failed to master. He wrote, "Up to the present hour we are both hungry and thirsty; we are poorly clothed, roughly treated, homeless; we labor, working with our own hands. When we are reviled, we bless; when we are persecuted, we endure it; when we are slandered, we respond graciously. Even now, we are like the world's garbage, like the dirt everyone scrapes off their sandals" (1 Cor. 4:11-13).

I address this hyper-prosperity mentality (along with the "superstar leaders" syndrome) in Playing with Holy Fire as well.

The fourth unhealthy reaction is based on hyper-poverty. By this I mean the attitude that the less you have, the holier you are.

This mindset does not produce generosity. It does not increase faith. And it does not advance the cause of the gospel.

I was speaking with a ministry colleague who heads up a massive evangelistic work. He mentioned a famous prosperity preacher to me and said, "This guy has probably given $50 million to our ministry over the years. He practices what he preaches."

In stark contrast, those who embrace a poverty mentality, who have a hard time receiving financial blessings from God, give very little to the work of the gospel. They feel guilty for every good thing they have, forgetting that Paul knew how to have a little as well as to have a lot (see Phil 4:12).

Because of their restrictive, guilt-ridden mindset, they are constantly in need, always looking to receive and rarely able to give. They are the polar opposite of hyper-prosperity.

That being said, the fact that a prosperity preacher gives away millions of dollars does not justify his message. It simply indicates that he preaches generosity and practices generosity.

On the flip side, the idea that we need to make life difficult for ministers of the gospel is absurd. Better to have a car that runs than a car that breaks down. Better to spend an extra $250 on a direct flight than to save the money and spend the night sleeping on the airport floor.

And that leads me to the two questions I have regarding Jesse Duplantis's announcement.

I don't know him personally and I only heard him preach in person one time, several decades ago. And I'm not here to present a critique (or defense) of his ministry.

I simply want to ask two questions.

First, is it good stewardship of his ministry funds to spend $54 million on a private jet, plus the millions of dollars it will cost every year to maintain and use it?

If a private jet is legitimately needed due to his travel schedule (God and his board know; I don't), does it have to be this expensive? As servants of the Lord, do we need to travel in such luxury?

It's true that God's funds are unlimited. But our own ministry funds are not.

Choices must me made, and by saving an unnecessary expense, we can free up funds for other gospel work (like providing full-time support for some Indian tribal pastors at $50 a month).

When I go overseas to speak, my assistant shops for the best business class fares available, or we use miles for upgrades.

At present, I've been overseas more than 160 times, sometimes with consecutive trips just days apart. Such travel is quite grueling, regardless of where on the plane you sit.

The first 50-60 trips, I virtually always flew economy. The last 100 or so, I've virtually always flown business, often at the expense of those inviting me.

But with the intensity of my schedule (which I wouldn't wish on others) and with my height, it's a good investment to make. Yet it would not be a good investment for us to own a private plane, even an old one.

The point is that every ministry and organization has to evaluate how to disperse the funds it receives. Stewardship is the key word here.

My second question is this: Does Jesse Duplantis's announcement bring reproach to the gospel? Does it make it more difficult for other Christian leaders to raise funds for their work? Does it play into the image of the self-serving, manipulative televangelist?

In the end, if God told Jesse to believe Him for a $54 million jet, and if the Lord gives him that jet in response to his faith, so be it.

My recommendation is that, in such cases, we follow Paul's guidelines set forth in Romans 14 (in a different context): "The faith you have, keep to yourself before God" (Rom. 14:22). There's no reason to announce it to the world.

Burkina Faso: Kidnappers Release Pastor and His family after Four Days

The Christian pastor who was abducted on Sunday with his family in Burkina Faso’s north-eastern province of Soum has been released.

Local sources told national broadcaster Omega Radio that Pastor Pierre Boena, his son David and his daughter-in-law, Ami Sawadogo were released yesterday (7 June).

The report does not specifically mention the two granddaughters, Fasne-wendé Ouédraogo and Pélagie Sawadogo, who were also abducted during the raid on Sunday, but does state that the pastor was released “with all the other members of his family in Malian territory”.

The reason for their release is not known, nor is it known whether a ransom was paid.

Pierre Boena, a pastor with an Assembly of God church, was kidnapped on Sunday evening in his village of Bilhore, near the border with Mali.

At the time of the attack he was at home with four family members and a church member, Pauline Sawadogo, who was visiting with her two daughters, Sanata and Zoenabou, local sources told World Watch Monitor.

These sources suggested that Pauline and her daughters may have been kidnapped along with Pastor Boena’s family on Sunday. Speaking on Thursday they said the whereabouts of Pauline and her daughters remain unknown.

Meanwhile there has still been no news regarding catechist Basnéré Mathieu Sawadogo, and his wife Alizeta, who were abducted two weeks earlier. Mathieu serves as a catechist at their parish, Notre Dame des Apôtres (Our Lady of the Apostles) in Arbinda, 100km from Djibo.

Kidnappers have previously targeted Djibo. Eighteen months ago an Australian couple were taken hostage from the city by al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM). Ken and Jocelyn Elliott had run a 120-bed clinic for 40 years until their abduction in January 2016. Jocelyn was released a month later, but her husband remains in captivity.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the recent kidnappings but World Watch Monitor understands that the perpetrators are believed to be members of the Fulani ethnic group.

Some relatives have been able to speak over the phone with the hostages, who told their family that they were in good health and were being treated well by their abductors.

The kidnappings could be the result of acts of violence against Fulani communities by security forces which, it was said, had angered them.

The Fulani and the Tuareg are the two main nomadic ethnic groups in northern Burkina Faso, and in neighbouring Mali and Niger.

Access to grazing land and water have caused tensions between the two communities. Militant members of the two communities are also fighting alongside numerous Islamist groups active in the Sahel region.

POPE HEARS OF TERRORISM CONCERNS

The recent kidnappings of the two Christian church leaders has created an atmosphere of anxiety among Christian communities in the land-locked Sahel nation, seen as a model of tolerance in a troubled region.

Burkina Faso’s 20 million inhabitants – predominantly Muslim (around 60%), but also with significant numbers of Christians (over 20%, the vast majority of whom are Catholics) and followers of indigenous beliefs (15%) – have long enjoyed peaceful co-existence.

Two weeks ago, 21 Catholic bishops from Burkina Faso and Niger said a better dialogue was needed between Muslim and Christian communities if terrorism was to be eradicated.

Following their five-yearly ad limina meeting with Pope Francis, in which the bishops discussed their concerns with him, Bishop Laurent Birfuore Dabiré of Dori, Burkina Faso, told Vatican Radio that “peaceful cohabitation” between Muslims and Catholics continued “despite the atmosphere of insecurity, and everything must be done to support it”.

His diocese is located in the tense border region with Mali where many of the kidnappings and attacks have taken place but, he said, what unites people “is family, culture, and traditions that are independent of religion”.

INCREASE IN ISLAMIST ACTIVITIES

Unlike Mali, Burkina Faso has not seen as many terrorist attacks. But it appears it is being slowly drawn into the wars of the Sahel. Attacks attributed to Islamist militants have intensified, particularly in the northern part of the country, prompting a military campaign in the region.

In a report published last month, Human Rights Watch highlighted the atmosphere of fear created by the increase in Islamist activities in the region. The New York-based group accused security forces of extrajudicial killings, abuse of suspects in custody and arbitrary arrests. .

In March, the capital Ougadougou was rocked by twin attacks on the country’s army headquarters and the French embassy.

Schools and teachers in and around Djibo have also been targeted by the militants. In April Islamic State in the Greater Sahara kidnapped a teacher “because he was speaking French to the pupils” rather than Arabic, the South African news agency News24 reported.

Kidnapped US Missionary Jeff Woodke is Alive, Says Niger’s President

A US missionary kidnapped in Niger in October 2016 is alive, according to the West African nation’s president.

Jeff Woodke, who worked for Jeunesse en Mission Entraide et Developpement (JEMED), a branch of the US-based Youth With a Mission, was abducted by unknown assailants late in the evening of Friday 14 October, 2016, from the town of Abalak in northern Niger.

For 20 months, there has been no news of Woodke, but on Monday, 4 June, President Mahamadou Issoufou told TV channel France24 that both he and a German aid worker kidnapped in April this year are alive.

“We have some news; we know they’re alive,” the president said. “We continue to create the conditions for their release. Perhaps the contacts that are underway will help to achieve that goal.”

It is the first proof of life since the kidnapping of the two Western citizens in the Sahel country.

Little had been known, or at least divulged, about Woodke’s condition or location, other than that his captors were tracked to neighbouring Mali by Nigerien authorities. No group has publicly claimed responsibility.

Last July, a coalition of jihadist groups active in the Sahel region (Nusrat al-Islam wal Muslimeen, also known as the Group to Support Islam and Muslims), affiliated to Al-Qaeda, released a video showing six foreign hostages, including three missionaries, but not Jeff Woodke.

The three missionaries in the video were: Colombian nun Gloria Argoti, kidnapped on 7 February from her convent in Karangasso, southern Mali; Australian surgeon Ken Elliott, kidnapped in January 2016 from Djibo in northern Burkina Faso, near the Mali border; and Swiss missionary Béatrice Stockly, kidnapped in Mali’s northern town of Timbuktu, also in January 2016.

All are still captive.

Jeff Woodke’s wife, Els, issued a video pleading for his safe return when there was no sign of him in that video, believing that he could also be held by those who issued it.

“I am sure that the families of the captives were very encouraged by this message and appreciated the mercy shown by Jama’at Nusrat al-Islam wal Muslimeen in sending this news and instructions about their loved ones,” said Mrs Woodke in her video.

“But my husband Jeff is not mentioned, so I did not receive the benefit of the reassurance and directions of how to proceed that the other families did. This has been very hard for me, for Jeff’s sons and his father to understand.”

The German Joerg Lange, employed by the aid group Help, was kidnapped by armed men on 11 April, in Niger’s western town of Ayorou, which shares a border with troubled northern Mali.

No group has claimed responsibility for his abduction, but a security source, speaking on condition of anonymity, told AFP that his kidnappers had “already taken him to northern Mali”.

On Monday, President Issoufou said he did not know exactly where the pair were being detained, but that “it is more likely that they are in Mali”.

Four Iranian Christians Set to Begin Ten-year Prison Sentences

The four Iranian Christians who saw their ten-year prison sentences upheld by an appeal court earlier this month are expecting to have to report to prison any day now.

Pastor Youcef Nadarkhani, and fellow Church of Iran members Yasser Mossayebzadeh, Saheb Fadaie and Mohammad Reza Omidi could receive a call within the next 24 hours to report at the prison gate in their home city of Rasht, Mansour Borji from the London-based advocacy organisation Article 18 told World Watch Monitor.

The four Christians were convicted of “promoting Zionist Christianity” and running house churches and appealed their sentences before the Revolutionary Court on 14 December last year but were unsuccessful.

Nadarkhani and Omidi, in addition to their jail terms, were also sentenced to two years’ internal exile, which they are to serve in the south of Iran, on the opposite side of the country from their homes near the Caspian Sea.

Four other Christians who also received lengthy sentences are still waiting the outcome of their own appeals, which were heard in the Revolutionary Court by the same judge, Judge Hassan Babaee, who, according to Article 18, “doesn’t have a good track record in dealing with Christians arrested for their Christian activities”.

Borji said this is partly because judges can’t be independent, as sentences are dictated by intelligence officials.

“Iranian Christians are concerned about the unjust verdicts issued against Pastor Victor Bet-Tamraz, and three other Christians who were sentenced alongside him, Amin Afshar Naderi, Kaviyan Fallah Mohammadi and Hadi Asgari“, Borji said

“We are following the appeal process closely and ask all Christians worldwide, and the key members of the international community to join us in calling for these convictions to be overturned. The Iranian government has to be reminded of its obligations under international law and its own constitution, to end its harassment of peaceful Christian community”, he added.

Pastor Bet-Tamraz was sentenced to ten years in jail in July last year for “acting against national security by organising and conducting house-churches”. The three converts were also given ten years, though Amin Afshar-Naderi was given an additional five years for “insulting the sacred” (blasphemy).

Shamiram Isavi Khabizeh, the wife of Victor Bet-Tamraz, was given a five-year sentence of her own in January, while their son, Ramil, is also facing charges.

Miles Windsor from Middle East Concern recently said prison terms are getting longer for Iranian Christians.

“Whilst Christians have consistently been put in prison for their faith in Iran in considerable numbers, the length of the sentence has seemed to have increased in the recent year or so,” he said.

‘ONGOING VIOLATIONS OF RELIGIOUS FREEDOM’

Although Iran’s constitution acknowledges Christians (excluding converts from Islam) as one of the recognised religious minorities allowed to operate in the country “within the limits of the law’, in practice the government continues to harass and imprison Christians and other religious minorities, noted the US State Department’s 2017 International Religious freedom report, which was released last month.

It is illegal for Muslim citizens of the Islamic republic to change or renounce their religious beliefs.

The country has been on the State Department’s list of Countries of Particular Concern (CPC) since 1999, “for having engaged in, or tolerated, systematic, ongoing, and egregious violations of religious freedom”.

In 2017, over a dozen Christians – most of them converts to Christianity – were given prison sentences of between 10 and 15 years for “acting against national security”.

Iran is 10th on the 2018 Open Doors World Watch List of the 50 countries where it is most difficult to live as a Christian.

Message for reflection – Sis.Angelica

When we were conducting training in a place, after the sessions were over, a group of young girls came to me and asked,

"Sister how can we hear the voice of the Lord?"

This is the question many of the believers ask,

"Why don't I hear the voice of the Lord?'

'Why don't I know the Lord's will'

The problem is where is their heart and in what direction their heart tends to go ?

The Bible says,

2 Co 3:16 "But whenever someone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away."

The heart must turn to the Lord. This is the repentance. When we were fallen and  were in sin , our hearts were turned away from the Lord. But when we repented our hearts turned to the Lord.

This matter of turning the  heart to the Lord  is not done once for all. It should be done all the time, day by day. Every morning our heart should turn towards the  Lord. After rising we should go to the Lord and say, "Lord here I am. By thy mercy, I wish my heart to turn anew towards you today."

Before you do any work, before you read the Word of God, turn your heart to God. The veil will be gone and there will be light.

The veil between you and the Lord will be taken away by turning your heart to Him and then you will see the light. Everything becomes clear to you.

His will, His face, His likes and dislikes, His perfect will, His permissive will, etc.

Let us turn our heart every day to the  Lord and get the veil between us and the Lord, removed.

Know Your Bible

A HUMBLE APPEAL TO THE PERSECUTED CHURCH! (Contd.)

Isaiah 44:23- 45:1-4

So the Lord has allowed this persecution! Do not pray against it!

If the Churches obey  the command of the Lord God ,

  1. Part with the Institutional set up which allows owning of land, property in the name of the Church
  2. Part with the priesthood system
  3. Part with the hierarchical structure and recognise the priesthood of all believers. There are no separate priests or mediators other than believers.
  4. Part with all the claims on believers after 2 months of training in Troop Churches.
  5. Not demand money from believers.
  6. Equipping every believer with spiritual gifts (Mk 16:17,18) for evangelizing.
  7. Promoting Work place based
  8. No full time workers who depend on believers for their livelihood, no institution run by Structural Churches, no building for Churches and  no clergy.

There is no need of persecution. If the Churches  come together on this basis, persecution will be stopped this  same moment!

I humbly make an appeal to all the foreign countries who provide finances and other resources for evangelization in India, stop all helps to the Indian Church! Let them realize their responsibilities! Let them come together  and take a decision to evangelize India, let them come together with one mind and heart!

"Tell the Israelis that when they have crossed the Jordan River to the land of Canaan, they are to drive out all the inhabitants of the land and destroy all their idols and their molten images. You are to demolish all their high places, take possession of the land, and live in it, because I've given you the land to inherit. (This is not physical destruction but destroying the works of the evil spirits in the name of Jesus Christ!)

"You are to divide the land among yourselves by lot according to your families. The larger the families are in number, the larger their inheritance is to be. The lesser the families are in number, the lesser their inheritance is to be. To whomever the lot falls, that inheritance goes to him. Divide it according to your ancestral tribes.

"But if you fail to drive out the inhabitants of the land before you, their survivors will become irritants in your eyes and thorns in your sides, to prick your sides and afflict you in the very land in which you'll be living.  Then, what I had planned to do to them, I'll start to do to you." Num 33:51-56

O Church in India, divide the land, States, districts, taluks, villages and towns for adopting and evangelizing . If they  do this,  India can be evangelized in 1 year! Please stop all your funds! We have more than enough funds in our nation! Do you know how many crores we spend on fireworks of  Christian festivals! Do you know how many crores we Christians in India pay as bribes, spend for adultery, drinking, festivals,  rituals we have inherited from pagans, memorial days, ornaments,  dowry, weddings, anniversaries, Birthdays and what not!! Do you know how rich our country India is in minerals! How rich we are in human resources!  We are wasting  our resources! The Lord asked us in 2006  to rise  up and work for the transformation of  India! We were rebellious, disobedient, sluggish, sleepy, easy going, pleasure loving Church! We have produced generations of slaves and  are keeping the  believers  under  us for centuries! We have discriminated God’s children in the name of caste, creed, gender, and what not! We are keeping them under us as milk fed babies!

Please do not pray to God to stop persecution! The righteous God could not tolerate the cries of His children,  non believers,  who are wandering throughout the length and breadth of India, walking barefoot, visiting holy places, holy rivers, doing all kinds of brutal rituals! Nowhere in the world you see such God seekers like Indians! They are still searching God in deserts, mountains, rivers, snakes, statues, Gurus, magicians, witches etc.  We, in our over enthusiasm to spread the “Religion  Christianity”, (which Emperor  Constantine installed in 313 AD) closed our eyes towards them. We became so hard hearted, blindfolded and became labourers of the Christian religion, but not of Jesus Christ! Now only we realize the blunder we committed!  We were so much lulled to passivity and never cared for them! Instead we mocked at them! Took advantage of their illiteracy, ignorance and fear of God! We never bothered to introduce Jesus to them! Instead of  bringing  them into  direct relationship with Jesus Christ, we introduced Christian religion and the heads of our Institutions to them! They became members of an organization/institution instead of coming into direct contact with Jesus! So they did not get salvation! But the business centres falsely named as “Church” flourished! Believers were cheated! Unbelievers died without Christ!

God in His mercy,  tolerated us  all these 2017 years! He sent many prophets from abroad  and raised many prophets in our own country! We  ignored all of them! Killed many! Insulted many! Burned many!

He is righteous! He is righteous! There is no trace of blemish in Him! Even if He hands all of us over to death and persecution still He will be righteous! We have no justification on our part! We have been disobedient! Rebellious to the core! We have been hypocrites! Pledging Him obedience  but never obeyed! We, all of us, till today  rebelled and are rebelling!

PRAYER TO THE FATHER IN HEAVEN!

O Lord! Do with us whatever you want! We are at your mercy! Only do save our 120 crores of people! Even if we die, we want all these poor 120 crores of people to be saved! Show us the way to save them! They, for generation after generation are seeking God! We had  been so selfish, with no  love, that we were not able to reflect Christ! There were many missionaries whom you sent to our country who reflected Christ! They could convert many! After seeing their life witness,  many of our non believer  Indians, accepted Jesus Christ! But we believers of India  have failed, utterly failed in our lives to give Jesus to them! We failed to love them! We were selfish, narrow minded, lacking in  generosity and magnanimity in treating them as our own! We still have caste system practised  even inside churches, inside seminaries, inside convents, even in cemeteries! We are divided and are still fighting over caste, rites, denominations etc.  We still practise witchcraft, divination, sorcery, dowry system and all the pagan practices! We follow all the pagan practices of Vastu, Yoga etc.  Even we participate in idol worship, worship their idols too. We seek to please them in order to survive persecution, without knowing that You only have sent this persecution!

This is not the Church you established! The Church we see in India is our own product and our own bye product!

O merciful Lord! We humbly implore to remove these duplicates! Bring back your original Church! Let the whole world see the glorious Church of Jesus established in India! Let the present duplicate system called “Church” with all discriminations, selfish motives, money mindedness  and  all its carnal desires be buried!

Lord! You have tolerated us enough in this country! As you had warned us on 19.8.2013, through  the revelation “Operation Ecclesia” you have allowed gentiles into this system! You did everything rightly! You do everything as per your word! You revealed to your servants 5 years earlier that you will hand over this wrong system which we call “Church” into the  hands  of gentiles if we do not repent and correct ourselves! Within 4 months you made this message to spread throughout India and the world! It reached the continents of USA, Europe, Australia, Asia and Africa. We received replies from U.K., U.S.A., Uganda, Africa etc. You did everything in the proper way!

We surrender ourselves! We bow down! We lie prostrate in front of your heavenly throne! Have mercy on us! Restore us! Mould us, shape us, Have your way in us! Give us the mind of determination to follow your instructions

We beseech you in the mighty name of our Lord Jesus Christ! Amen!

Sr. Angelica AJ

Save The Persecuted Christians: Get Your Church Involved

You've been asked to save the whales, the elephants, and the redwoods, but how about the persecuted Christians?

Americans can be passionate about saving endangered species--and that's great. But I'm hoping a new campaign will spark a passion for saving persecuted Christians around the world.

But first, I want to remind you of a campaign from half a century ago, one that's more relevant than ever. In 1963, a synagogue in Ohio launched the Cleveland Campaign for Soviet Jewry to call attention to and generate support for Jews in the Soviet Union who were being repressed and incarcerated in the Gulag.

Synagogues across America called attention to their plight using prominently displayed signage to engage members, neighbors, journalists, business leaders, and politicians. Eventually, mass demonstrations in the United States and overseas followed. In 1973, President Nixon dispatched Chuck Colson to pressure the Soviets on Jewish emigration.

Next came bracelets bearing the names of Jews seeking to emigrate, such as Natan Sharansky. President Ronald Reagan kept one of those bracelets on his desk. And then, as the public got engaged, came legislative pressure, and economic and political pressure. Political prisoners started being released. And then the unthinkable happened--the Soviet Union collapsed into history's dustbin.

No, the signs and bracelets didn't by themselves cause the fall of the Soviet empire, but it's fair to say they were an indispensable first step. As one observer quipped, "a few people with signs led to the destruction of an empire."

So folks,  let's do it again--this time on behalf of an even larger group--persecuted Christians. According to the new Save the Persecuted Christians Coalition, some 215 million Christians worldwide face heavy persecution--including rape, imprisonment, forced marriages, physical violence, even death. That's one in 12.

According to Open Doors, every month 255 Christians are killed; 104 abducted; 180 Christian women are raped, sexually assaulted, or forced into marriage; 160 Christians detained or imprisoned without trial; and 66 churches are attacked.

So what can we do to help? Open Doors USA suggests that we pray daily, engage by writing letters and advocate for the persecuted, volunteer with trusted ministries that help the persecuted, and give to organizations that provide Bibles, food, and other forms of help.

But I want to focus on one thing we can do today: it's the Save the Persecuted Christians campaign.

The Arabic letter pronounced "nun" stands for "Nazarene," a derogatory reference to Christians in large swathes of the Middle East. The Islamic State used this Arabic character to designate homes of followers of Christ targeted for persecution.

Today, however, the letter nun is a prominent part of the Save the Persecuted Christians campaign, displayed on banners at churches and other houses of worship to spread the word about oppression around the globe.

To get one of these banners for your church, encourage your church's leaders to visit SaveThePersecutedChristians.org and join those who've already ordered their free kits and banners, which can be displayed in front of their houses of worship, much like the campaign for Soviet Jewry displayed its banners.

You'll also find a color poster for your church that explains the banner. Your pastor will receive a folder stuffed full of information on this vital new movement.

The growing Save the Persecuted Christians coalition wants to create a movement akin to the one that sparked assistance to Soviet Jews--one that brings about policy changes, holds the persecutors accountable, and increases the costs for their crimes against humanity.

Ultimately, they want to launch a movement that, by God's grace, will be instrumental in ending the unconscionable daily abuse of our brothers and sisters around the world.

So please get your church involved. And the next time someone asks you to "save" something, invite them to help Save the Persecuted Christians.

India: 2017 Saw 20 Percent Increase in Atrocities against Christians, Says Lawyer

Amid growing extreme Hindu nationalism in India, dozens of speakers have called for concerted action to uphold the country’s constitution and fundamental rights, at a conference to mark four years of government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“There is a grave threat to plurality,” Professor Ganesh Narayan Devy, a scholar on India’s religious and linguistic diversity, told the 25-27 May ‘Citizens’ Conclave’ on ‘Building an Inclusive India’ in New Delhi, attended by over 800 delegates from across the country.

“We are living at a time when you are questioned about the food you eat, about the god you worship and branded as anti-national for expressing a different view [contrary to Hindu nationalism],” said Devy.

“They [Hindu nationalists] demonise and attack us: 2017 saw a 20 per cent increase in the number of atrocities against Christians,” Tehmina Arora, a lawyer and director of rights group ADF India, told the conference.

On the status of Christian minorities, she added: “When you go to police, they hardly cooperate and often refuse to register complaints. There is a growing culture of impunity. We could file only 25 criminal cases, as against the 240+ incidents reported in the year.”

Instead, she said that anyone who is accused of converting Hindus “will be beaten up”. “You [can be] taken to a police station when you pray!” she added.

A pastor having a birthday party was recently arrested and accused of converting Hindus in southern Karnataka state, even though it is not a state which has an ‘anti-conversion law’ in place.

“Even I could be accused of ‘conversion’ for addressing this house [with many non-Christians],” Arora said, pointing to the “worsening intolerant atmosphere” during the government under the BJP, known for pursuing a Hindu-nationalist agenda.

She cited the instance of more than 50 villages in central Chhattisgarh state passing resolutions banning the Christian faith soon after the BJP government assumed office on 26 May, 2014.

ARCHBISHOP LAMBASTED FOR CALL TO PRAYER

“Look at the fuss over the [Delhi] archbishop’s call for prayer for the nation. Churches are for prayer and, if the Christians cannot pray, what can they do?” Arora asked.

Indian media has been gripped by a vicious debate on the “patriotism” of Christians after Catholic archbishop Anil Couto of Delhi sent out a pastoral letter to his community to launch “prayer for the nation”. Not even half a per cent of New Delhi’s 20 million population are Catholics.

“We are witnessing a turbulent political atmosphere, which poses a threat to the democratic principles enshrined in our constitution and the secular fabric of our nation. It is our hallowed practice to pray for our country and its political leaders all the time, but all the more so when we approach the General Elections [in 2019],” wrote Archbishop Couto.

“Let us begin a prayer campaign for our country from 13 May, 2018,” said the letter, encouraging Christians to fast and pray every Friday by “foregoing at least one meal … and offering penance and sacrifices for our spiritual renewal and that of our nation”.

Some major media networks responded by accusing the archbishop, and Christians in general, of being “against Modi”.

Asserting that “minorities are safe in India”, Rajnath Singh, home minister of the country, cautioned on 21 May that “no-one should speak to mobilise the people of the country on the basis of religion”.

But journalist Teesta Setalvad said the media “have an agenda”. “The archbishop’s letter is discussed for hours in the media. What crime has he committed?” she asked.

“There is deprivation in the media. The archbishop is portrayed as anti-national,” added Rajdeep Sardesai, one of the pioneers of TV journalism in India.

“Space for dissent is shrinking”, Sardesai said, adding that many of those “waging such campaigns” were “taught in Christian schools by priests and nuns”.

“The silent majority has been silent for too long. We must speak out and often. Silent majority is not an option any more… You have to challenge them and debate them. We need new alliances,” he said.

‘POLITICS OF HATRED’

Modi was the Gujarat Chief Minister during the 2002 anti-Muslim riots, when more than 1,000 people were killed. Harsh Mandar, who quit the elite Indian Administrative Service to protest at the BJP government’s alleged connivance in the 2002 attacks, pointed out that violence against religious minorities has since been “getting worse”.

“Your identity is a source of great fear – for the minorities,” said Mandar.

Anti-minority violence is “based on hatred”, said Ram Puniyani, columnist and social activist. After he visited Kandhamal, in Odisha state, scene of the worst case of anti-Christian violence in India’s history, he returned to the state capital, Bhubaneswar, where he said some Hindus told him “it is good that Christians have been taught a lesson”. “This is the politics of hatred,” he told the conference.

Shabnam Hashmi, co-ordinator of the Conclave of over 50 speakers from across the country, pleaded with delegates to take its message to the far corners of the nation: “The challenge before us is clear. We have to speak up and take the message to the masses.”

The conference discussion about Indian media coincided with a report by the BBC’s South Asia correspondent, Justin Rowlatt, noting that a sting operation by a news organisation called Cobrapost “claims to have revealed a deeply engrained bias towards the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) within many of India’s leading media groups, as well as a willingness among some of the country’s most senior media executives and journalists to take money in return for pushing a political agenda”.

Cobrapost alleged that some of the country’s leading news organisations were willing to “not only cause communal disharmony among citizens, but also tilt the electoral outcome in favour of a particular party – and all in return for cash”, Rowlatt wrote. However, he warned that “undercover stings of this kind are notoriously unreliable. The footage can easily be taken out of context or edited to change the meaning of a conversation or misrepresent its real nature”.

Indonesian Pastor Facing Prison Sentence for Sharing His Faith

A court in Indonesia sentenced pastor Abraham Ben Moses to four years in prison for religious defamation. The conviction followed his December 2017 arrest due to a viral video of him discussing his Christian faith with a taxi driver.

Rev. Moses is a former Muslim who studied comparative religions and started investigating the Christian faith to disprove it. This led to his recognizing the reality of the Christian faith and he converted to Christ in 2006.

In the video in question, Moses' talk with the taxi driver brought up a question about marriage in the Koran. He quoted a verse and told the driver that Mohammed contradicted himself. Then he shared the Gospel with the driver and pleaded with him to turn to Jesus. He uploaded the video to his Facebook page, where it went viral.

Indonesia’s largest Islamic organization, Muhammadiyah, filed a blasphemy charge again Abraham Ben Moses. Police arrested him on December 5th and confiscated his cell phone as evidence.

The Tangerang District Court sentenced him to four years in prison and fined him 50 million Rupiah. (Approximately $3,500.) The judge in the case said, “Abraham was convicted under Electronic and Information Transactions Law No. 11/2008 as he intentionally spread information intended to incite hatred against an individual, group, and society based on religion.”

Rev. Moses’ attorneys’ plan to file an appeal in the case, saying the sentence is “too heavy” for him. He has four adult children with his first wife, a Muslim who left him after his conversion. His new wife was pregnant at the time of his arrest and has since delivered the couple’s first child.

During the trial, Moses told the court, “I spread the word of Jesus Christ so everybody can be saved… I get my strength from Jesus, He is a very good friend.”

First Time Ever: A Jewish-Christian Party To Run For Israeli Knesset

Avi Lipkin, a well-known lecturer who has spoken in over 1,000 churches, announced that he has formed the first joint Jewish-Christian party and intends to lead it in the next Knesset elections. A closer look at his motives reveals that this may be the wave of the future. The acceptance of Lipkin's Gush Hatanachi (Biblical Bloc) party application was announced on Wednesday. The party's founding document reads:

"The Biblical bloc protects everyone who believes in the Bible and opposes the ethnic cleansing of Jews and Christians from the Land of Israel. The Biblical bloc represents parties all over the world who espouse Judeo-Christian, democratic Western culture."

"The party will also work to strengthen Israel by formulating a program to improve public relations around the world by recruiting Jewish and Christian speakers and training them to improve Israel's image in the world and protect Western democracy."

The essence of his party is much more simple.

"Christianity has its share of hatred for Jews but we have our share of hatred for Christians," Lipkin told Breaking Israel News. "We have to stop hating the Christians. We have to become like Ruth and Naomi. In my lecture tours, I have seen that many Christians are ready for this."

In a candid interview with Breaking Israel News, Lipkin explained how this vision of a renewed relationship between Jews and Christians makes sense in Israeli politics. He sees the Christian demographic rapidly becoming a major factor which, shockingly, currently has no representation in the Knesset.

"For hundreds of years, the only Christians in Israel were Arab," Lipkin explained. "This changed twenty years ago when one million people made Aliyah to Israel, mostly from the former Soviet Union. Fully one third were not Jewish."

"Eight percent of the population in Israel today is Christian but they have no representation in the Knesset," he said. "Until recently, the Arab Christians who used to be anti-Semitic aligned with the Muslims. In the face of growing Islamic extremism, these Christian Arabs are slowly realizing they need to change and slowly, they are turning to Israel and the Jews."

Indeed, just as many see Israel as a refuge and sanctuary for oppressed Jews from around the world, Lipkin envisions Israel as serving the same purpose for Arab Christians as well as Western Christians.

"Jews are sovereign in Israel. We have to embrace and protect our Christians from any threat coming from the Islamic side. We need to give Bible-believing Christians representation in the Knesset."

"The Islamic Jihad already had plans twenty years ago to annihilate every Jew in the West. Because of assimilation and intermarriage, we will see a tsunami of six million Jews from America and other Western countries coming to Israel accompanied by four million Christian spouses and relatives. This is imminent and we need to be ready for it."

His party list will be half Jewish and half Christian taken from a broad spectrum of both religions.

Lipkin made aliyah over 50 years ago from New York and lives in Kedar, Gush Etzion. He served in the IDF as a spokesman for seventeen years. A prolific author, he has written extensively on the threat Islam poses to Western culture and, more specifically, Christianity.

He worked for the Likud's Knesset campaign in 1988, editing and translating the party platform into Hebrew, English and Spanish. After the Likud victory under Yitzhak Shamir, he was a senior editor and translator in the news department of the Government Press Office.

Lipkin earned his Master's Degree from the Jewish Theological Seminary of America and is considered one of the pioneers in Jewish-Christian relations.

One Coptic Mother’s Agony at Trauma of Son Who Saw Islamists Kill His Father

On 26 May 2017 a convoy of Copts was travelling to the Monastery of St. Samuel in Minya, 170 miles (270km) south of Cairo, to celebrate Ascension Day. Among them were Ayad and his sons, Marco (14) and Mina (10).

“I remember it was a very hot day, so my husband and two sons left early for work in the monastery. They were working on the church bells there,” remembers 42-year-old mother-of-four, Hanaa.

Their convoy was stopped on the desert road by eight to ten gunmen. They ordered the Copt men to give up their valuables, then all, who would not confess Islam, were shot. The boys were spared “to tell the story”.

“I was having breakfast with my daughters when the phone rang,” Hanaa continues. “It was my son calling from his father’s phone. He was crying. He told me they had been attacked and that his father was in a critical condition.”

“I went as soon as I could, together with some family. The ambulance was late, so my nephew Ehab put Ayad in the back of his minivan. My husband was soaked in blood, it was a terrible sight. On the way to hospital Ayad was transferred to the ambulance, but it was too late: he died on the way.”

Hanaa’s grief was immeasurably deep. But, she said, “along the way God comforted me through the many visits of priests and people who stood with me.”

The support was also good for her 14-year-old son, Marco. Hanaa says he was encouraged by it, and has been very brave like his late father. He is doing well at school, she says. “[He has] started to go to the monastery to make church bells in his father’s place. He has a strong relationship with God. He always goes to church, especially since his father’s death.”

But she worries for Mina. “My big concern is for my youngest son, Mina,” Hanaa admits. “This incident has had a huge negative impact on him. He’s always afraid, especially to go anywhere on his own, even to the bathroom. He also can’t sleep alone, so sleeps next to me.”

The situation for Copts in Upper Egypt has become increasingly difficult. Islamic State released a propaganda video in February last year, vowing to wipe out Egypt’s Coptic Christians and “liberate Cairo”.

Egyptian Christians have long complained that the government does not take their security concerns seriously. For their part, officials blame violent incidents on foreign-influenced extremists.

But Hanaa said: “Even though we are very much persecuted here in Upper Egypt, we love our Muslim neighbours. Because our religion is based on love and our God is a God of love. Having experienced this harsh persecution myself hasn’t changed my view: I still pray for Muslims and love them. Our Lord is stronger than their persecution.”

Nonetheless, the loss of her husband is real. “Ayad wasn’t only my husband. He was my friend and a brother and a father to me. He was everything for me in this life. He was very kind and honest, a man of God, and I am proud he stood by his faith until his last breath. If he could say something to his attackers, I think he’d say: ‘I forgive you and pray that God forgives you, touches your hearts and open your blind eyes to see His way.’ And I would fully agree with him.”

New Iraqi Leader Vows to 'Support Christians'

The Chaldean Patriarch, Louis Sako, has telephoned Iraqi Shiite leader Muqtada al-Sadr to congratulate him on his unexpected victory in the country’s recent parliamentary elections. The Patriarchate also said that Sako told Sadr he hoped for a government that promotes the common good of all the Iraqi people. According to the Patriarchate, Sadr thanked Sako for his words and pledged to “support Christians”, the Vatican-linked news agency Fides reported.

Sako has positioned himself of leader of Iraq’s remaining Christians, who are rebuilding their lives, homes and churches since the military defeat of IS last year

No single candidate won anywhere near enough seats to control the majority of the 329-seat parliament, and Sadr’s alliance with the communists won the greatest number, with only 54 seats. The bloc led by Hadi al-Amari, a militia leader who fought against Iraq during its war with Iran, came second with 47 seats. The bloc headed by Haider al-Abadi, Prime Minister since 2014, fared worse than expected, with 42 seats, but won the multi-sectarian province of Nineveh, which includes many Christian towns and the city of Mosul where, under his overall command, Iraqi forces led the military defeat of IS last year.

However Mr. Sadr did not stand as a candidate himself and has said he will not become prime minister, meaning he instead can function as something of a “kingmaker”. Although Christians were killed or forced to flee Baghdad in 2006 and 2007 as his Shia militias sparked furious fighting with Baghdad’s Sunni populations, he has distanced himself from his Iranian former backers, saying he regards their influence in Iraq as destabilising.

Rend al-Rahim, a former Iraqi ambassador to the US, told Al Jazeera that this result “indicates that at least in Mosul province there is renewed hope for a better future and an acknowledgement of the role of Abadi and the Iraqi army in liberating Nineveh.”

According to the New York Times, Sadr favours Abadi to continue as prime minister. Abadi is a moderate Shia who has partnered with the US in the fight against Islamic State. Sadr met both him and Mr Amari at the weekend as part of negotiations for forming a government, and after meeting Abadi he said their meeting showed that the next government “will be inclusive, we will not exclude anyone”.

The Al Monitor news website noted that on 21 May, Sadr tweeted, “I am Muqtada. I am Shiite, Sunni, Christian, Sabean, Yazidi, Islamist, civil, Arab, Kurdish, Assyrian, Turkmen, Chaldean and Shabak. I am Iraqi. Do not expect me to side with any sect against the other to renew enmities and lead to our demise. We are headed toward a comprehensive Iraqi alliance.”

Although the country’s Christians had only five seats to fight over, the results show a significant shift. Fides reports that four of the five successful candidates belong to the Chaldean Church, and that the Assyrian Democratic Movement, the longest-running Christian party, will have no representation in parliament.

Two of the five seats were won by candidates from the Babylon Brigades militia: Aswan Salem Sawa in Nineveh, and Burhanuddin Ishak Ibrahim in Baghdad. In Kirkuk, the seat was won by the Chaldean Syriac Assyrian Council’s Rihan Hanna Ayoub, and in Erbil the seat was won by Hoshyar Karadag Yelda, a candidate for the Chaldean coalition.

The only non-Chaldean, Immanuel Khoshaba, of the Assyrian Rafidain coalition, won the seat reserved for Christians in the governorate of Dohuk.

It is thought that since the emigration of around 70 per cent of Iraqi Christians since the US-led invasion of 2003, Chaldean Catholics are now more numerous than Syriacs and Assyrians.

Patriarch Sako, who has been positioning himself as the leader of all the country’s Christians, urged the Christian politicians “to develop a new vision and unite the stances to safeguard our small quota and its independence, which in turn protects our dignity and unity”.

Meanwhile it was announced on Sunday that the patriarch is to be made a cardinal, increasing his recognition in the Western Church. His predecessor, Emmanuel Delly, received the cardinal’s red hat in 2007 at the age of 80, as a sign of Pope Benedict XVI’s “spiritual closeness and affection” for Iraqi Christians then engulfed amid the Sunni-Shia violence that had erupted in Iraq. Sako is to be made a cardinal on 29 June alongside 13 other prelates including Pakistan’s Joseph Coutts, the Archbishop of Karachi and an expert in interfaith dialogue. Asked by the German broadcaster Deutsche Welle if his elevation to cardinal would improve the lot of Christians, who face considerable persecution there, Coutts replied: “Pakistan’s Christians are struggling to be recognised as equal citizens … My selection as cardinal does acknowledge that there is a viable, visible and active Christian community in Pakistan.” But he added that he had no plans as yet to lobby the Pakistani authorities to pardon Asia Bibi, the imprisoned Christian mother of five on death row for blasphemy.

A Hindu Rashtra Is No Less Than a Saffron Pakistan: Julio Ribeiro

After a letter by Delhi’s Archbishop Anil Couto calling Christians to pray and fast before the 2019 general elections, retired Mumbai Police commissioner Julio Ribiero, in his article for The Times of India, said, “A Hindu Rashtra would make my country nothing less than a saffron Pakistan.”

Couto was heavily criticised by the Bharatiya Janata Party for trying to polarise people around religion, after he wrote a letter to all parish priests and religious institutions in the Delhi archdiocese on 8 May.

Ribiero had earlier faced backlashed for his column in The Indian Express in 2017, in which he wrote about his fears of living as a Christian in India. A year later, in a piece for TOI, Ribeiro, while defending the Archbishop, wrote about the shrinking space for dissent in the country, especially for minority communities.

The former police commissioner wrote that there were far too many Christians who had second thoughts about a BJP government, even before the 8 May circular was sent.

"Christians who voted BJP in 2014 – and there were too many of them to count – have had second thoughts much earlier than May 8, when the Rev Anil Couto’s circular was distributed to all the churches in his diocese." - Julio Ribiero in The Times of India

In his letter, the Archbishop had raised concerns over the current “turbulent political atmosphere” which has threatened the democratic institutions and social fabric of the country. However, Ribeiro said, “He is not the only Indian to have raised such concerns. I know countless Hindus, good, solid citizens of our country, who have condemned the covert and overt attempts to demolish institutions, attacks that portend the end of our secular fabric.”

‘What About a ‘Godman’ Becoming Chief Minister?’

Responding to Union Minister KJ Alphon’s statement urging ‘godmen’ to stay away from political comments, Ribiero pointed out that the BJP has appointed a ‘godman’ as the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh

Message for Reflections – Sis. Angelica

Be fruitful, multiply!

I met a mother who lost her husband and struggling to bring up her children in the ways of the Lord. I could see how the Lord was with her blessing her in every way. Today’s meditation of  Dt 25:5-10 was a pleasant surprise to me. I realised how the Lord has given various statutes to His children in order to fulfil His blessing “Be fruitful, multiply, fill the earth, and subdue it”. For this purpose,  He established and blessed marriage to beget children. Not getting married or not begetting children was considered wrong in the Old Testament.

"When two brothers are living together and one of them dies without leaving a son, his widow must not be married outside the family to a foreigner. Instead, the brother-in-law must go to her, take her as his wife, and by doing so perform the duty of a brother-in-law.  The firstborn whom she will bear will continue the name of the dead brother, so his name will not be erased from Israel.  But if the man does not want to marry his brother's widow, then she must go to the elders at the city gate and declare, ……. Then the elders of the city are to summon him and speak with him. If he insists on saying, 'I don't want to marry her,'  then she is to approach her brother-in-law in the presence of the elders, remove his sandal, spit in his face, and say in response, 'May this be done to the man who does not preserve the lineage of his brother.' Then his family name in Israel will be known 'as the family of the one whose sandal was removed." Du 25:5-10

What all perversities and deceptive methods the crafty devil has introduced in  the world today against the commandment of marrying and begetting children on earth! God’s children!  Beware of all these!

Warfare prayer of the soldiers of the Army of Jesus to bind and destroy the works of the devil

Let us bind and destroy the works of the devil in the name of Jesus Christ who has conquered sin, satan, curse and death on the cross

Prophecy NEWS Updates

The #1 Most Overlooked Prophetic Sign

Can we know when Jesus is coming back? No. No one knows the day or the hour of His return (Mark 13:32). However, we can know the general season of His return. Why do I say this? Because Jesus told us so. He said certain signs will indicate His return is near.

And today, we see them. Those signs include (but are not limited to): the rebirth of Israel as a nation (Jeremiah 23:7-8)... The Jewish people in control of Jerusalem (Luke 21:24-28)... A marked increase in travel and knowledge (Daniel 12:4)... and many more.

Centuries ago, Jesus and the prophets pointed to dozens of signs just like these. Jesus said when you see them, you should "look up, because your salvation draws near" (Luke 21:28). But I want to focus on just one of those signs. It's a sign so obvious, people take it for granted.

It may even be the most important sign. Yet, while it's in full view of every man, woman, and child on earth, most people still ignore it. Hard to believe isn't it? But it's true. One of the foremost signs of the Second Coming is either ignored or dismissed by almost everyone in the world.

The Most Overlooked Sign of the Second Coming

So what is this sign? It's the Gospel. That's right. The spread of the Gospel is the most overlooked sign of the Second Coming. When Jesus was asked, "When will the end come? And what will be the signs of your coming?" He said, "the Good News will be preached to the whole world so all nations will hear it, and then the end will come" (Matthew 24:14). Our generation is on the verge of fulfilling this sign.

Right now, the Gospel is being preached in every nation on earth. It's an unmistakable sign of the times in which we live. Yet, it's the #1 most overlooked sign. The world, and even many Christians, take it for granted.

Those people say, "What's the big deal? Why wouldn't the Gospel spread across the world? We live in an age of satellite TV, the Internet, and global travel." True. Technology partially explains the recent explosion of the Gospel. Print books, ebooks, websites, television, radio, and more take the Gospel to millions on a daily basis. But is technology solely responsible? No. Technology alone will not make a message go global.

So what will? The power of the message. God is the one behind the spread of the Gospel. Don't doubt it. As Gamaliel observed, "If the Gospel is not from God, it will soon fade away. But if the Gospel is from God, no one will be able to stop it" (Acts 5:38-39).

How many others have tried to spread a different message and failed? The Gospel has spread because it's the Word of God. The Bible says the Word of God always produces fruit. It will accomplish all God wants it to and prosper everywhere He sends it (Isaiah 55:11). No one should take this for granted. After all, the global spread of the Gospel is nothing less than a miracle.

Think about it. A first century carpenter on the outskirts of the Roman Empire said His message would be proclaimed to the ends of the earth. He said "the whole world" and "all nations" will hear it. That's a bold claim. Remember, Jesus only had a few followers at the time. He had no great wealth. He didn't hold a high or important government position.

He wasn't a conquering hero. He was a poor wandering preacher in an all but forgotten province of the mighty Roman Empire. He lived in a time when TV, radio, the Internet, and the printing press did not yet exist. Nothing indicated His name and message would spread to all nations. Yet, here we are today, where the name of Jesus is known throughout the world.

Do we really grasp the significance of this? When Jesus made this bold claim, His followers didn't even understand what "the whole world" was. Perhaps they had heard of India and China, but Japan? Australia? North and South America?

All these places were unknown to the disciples. No one at the time knew how large the world was or even how many nations existed. The idea of reaching them all was absurd. Yet Jesus knew. As God in the flesh, He knew how big the world was. And He said the global spread of the Gospel would be a sign of His return.

The Spread of the Gospel

Following the crucifixion, the Gospel spread throughout Israel. But it took several decades to reach the rest of the Roman Empire. For the first 1,000 years of Christianity, the Gospel rarely left western Europe and the Mediterranean region. So for fifteen centuries, no Christian could point to this sign of the Second Coming.

Many honored the Lord's command to "go into all nations and make disciples" (Matthew 28:19), and they tried to fulfill this sign in their time. But only in recent years could anyone claim this sign is nearing fulfillment.

Today, the Gospel circles the globe on a daily basis. Missionaries take it to the most remote corners of the world. Radio and television transmit the Word of God into nations hostile to Christianity, and the Internet brings the Gospel to everyone with an electronic device. Yet, despite all this, the spread of the Gospel goes largely unnoticed. Jesus said this would be a sign of His return.

He said in the days of Noah, people enjoyed banquets and parties and weddings right up to the time Noah entered his boat and the flood came and destroyed them all (Luke 17:26-30). The people of Noah's day did not believe a flood was coming. But the flood did come, and so will Jesus.

Remember, Jesus said, "The Gospel will be preached to all nations, and then the end will come" (Matthew 24:14). He didn't say, "The Gospel will be preached to all nations, and then I'll come 50 years or 100 years or 1,000 years later." No. He said, "And then the end will come." Our generation is on the verge of seeing the Gospel preached to all the nations. That means Jesus is right at the door. He's coming soon!

Indonesia: Death Toll ‘Unimaginable’ if Bomb Had Exploded Inside Church

The leader of one of the Indonesian church most badly damaged by the suicide bombing attacks last Sunday, 13 May, has said he “can’t imagine” how much greater the damage could have been had the attacker detonated the bomb inside the church.

Rev. Yonathan Budiantoro of Surabaya Pentecostal Church, told the Christian charity Open Doors International that the morning service is the “worshippers’ favourite time” to be at the church. Asked what might have happened had the bomber made it inside, he said: “I can’t imagine. There would be so many victims. I can’t imagine the death toll if the bombs had exploded inside the church.”

Police say that Dita Oepriarto, whom they accused of being the local leader of the JAD militant group behind the attacks, drove a car laden with explosives at the church at around 7.30am local time, but it exploded outside the building. A 52-year-old security guard died, as did four church members, including a 17-year-old who tried to prevent the bombers’ car from passing through the church gate.

The church has since posted a list of missing church members:

Sentence Upheld for Pastor in Algeria Stopped for Carrying Christian Literature

A case that began with police in Algeria stopping a Christian suspected of carrying Bibles in his car ended yesterday with a large fine for the church leader.

A judge in Tiaret, 600 kilometers (372 miles) southwest of Algiers, on Wednesday (May 16) denied pastor Nouredine Belabed’s appeal of a sentence of a 100,000-dinar (US$868) fine and payment of court fees under a controversial law that forbids “undermining the faith of a Muslim.” Belabed had received the sentence on March 8, including a three-month suspended prison term reduced from what had been a two-year prison term.

The 37-year-old father of three was traveling with a companion, identified only as 26-year-old Khalil, to Tiaret on March 14, 2015 when gendarmes stopped their vehicle, Pastor Belabed told Morning Star News. National Gendarmerie in Tiaret had contacted officers in Sidi Abderrahmane to report two suspects driving an Opel Zaphira coming from El-Bayadh toward Tiaret with Christian books on board.

“We went to El-Bayadh to see our Christian brothers, but also to answer the call of a man who contacted us to know Christ,” Pastor Belabed told Morning Star News. “I do not know him, but we are used to working that way. But once there, he called me to apologize for not being able to come. Back at a gendarmerie checkpoint at a junction, we were stopped to search the vehicle from top to bottom. I was sure someone pointed us out.”

A thorough search followed, ending with the officers seizing 56 books, according to a police report delivered to prosecutors at a court in Frenda, 50 kilometers (31 miles) southwest of Tiaret. The books included the Gospel of Mathew, Bibles, a Bible commentary, a book on church history and some pamphlets.

Pastor Belabed told officers that he had bought them at a Christian bookstore in Algiers after a meeting with other church leaders at the headquarters of the legally recognized Protestant Church of Algeria (l’Église Protestante d’Algérie, or EPA). He told them he meant to distribute them free to other Christians or any other person who wanted to know Christ, he said.

“They detained us at the gendarmerie brigade from 3 p.m. until 10 p.m. after photocopying each of the books we were carrying,” he said. “Since then we did not hear of this case. I thought they had forgotten us.”

Nearly two years later, around Christmas of 2017, he was informed that a security warrant had been issued on him and that he had been sentenced to two years in prison and a fine of 50,000 dinars (US$434) by a court in Frenda. The judgment was dated October 27, 2015.

“It was at the police station that I was informed,” he said. “The two of us had been sentenced for possession and distribution of Christian articles in order to destabilize and undermine the faith of Muslim according to article 02/11 of the Law 03/06.”

Law 03/2006, commonly known as Law 03/06, calls for a prison term of two to five years and a fine of 500,000 to 1 million dinars (US$4,343 to US$8,687) for anyone who “incites, constrains, or utilizes means of seduction tending to convert a Muslim to another religion, or using for this purpose the institutions of education, health, social, cultural, or educational institutions, or other establishment, or financial advantage; or makes, stores or distributes printed documents or films or other audiovisual medium or means intended to undermine the faith of a Muslim.”

Christian leaders say the charge is unconstitutional, citing the Algerian constitution’s Article 42, which guarantees freedom of belief, opinion and worship.

During interrogation Pastor Belabed told officers he converted from Islam to Christianity in 2003, and Khalil said he had converted in 2009.

Judge Rebukes Pastor

While the pastor secured an attorney with the EPA’s help, Khalil fled the country for Europe with others in a makeshift boat at the risk of their lives, Pastor Belabed said.

After he fought the sentence with legal defense, in March a court in Frenda convicted both Christians of undermining the faith of a Muslim and sentenced them to pay the fine and court fees; the two-year prison sentence was cancelled in favor of the three-month suspended sentence, while the fine of 50,000 dinars was doubled.

The pastor opted to appeal, and the case was transferred to the Tiaret Criminal Court. On May 9, he appeared before the same judge who had sentenced him in 2015.

“When I saw and recognized the judge, knowing that it was the same who had sentenced me in Frenda, I was scared,” Pastor Belabed said. “But, encouraged by the Lord, I tried to defend my cause somehow. But the judge was harsh and said, “Why do you carry those Christian books, Are not you ashamed?’ The judge used intimidation and told me repeatedly, ‘You’re not ashamed to do that? Algeria is a Muslim country.’”

He replied that he was a Christian who loved Muslims and did not seek to harm their peace, he said. The pastor said he told the judge, “I did not do anything wrong, judge. The Bibles I carried were intended for members of our community, our Tiaret church, which is affiliated with the EPA. I did not give them to others or try to evangelize anyone.”

The May 16 verdict did not appear to mention Khalil.

“Nouredine B. alone was found guilty for carrying and distributing Christian articles in order to undermine and destabilize the faith of a Muslim, in accordance with Article 11/02 of Law 03/06, and for that he is ordered to pay a fine of 100,000. DA ($ 862),” the verdict read.

Pastor Belabed said he would not file any more appeals.

“I am tired,” he said. “The police keep watching us, my wife and me. They watch all our movements. I do not want to inflict more on my family than that; I decide to choose to pay the fine.”

Algeria ranked 42nd on Christian support organization Open Doors’ 2018 World Watch List of the countries where it is most difficult to be a Christian.

US State Department Criticizes China for Shutting down Church Service

The US State Department has criticized the Chinese government for reportedly shutting down a Christian church service held in memory of the nearly 70,000 people who died in a 2008 earthquake.

According to TheHill.com, State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert said in a statement:

"We are deeply concerned by the Chinese government’s reported harassment of the Early Rain Covenant Church, in Chengdu, Sichuan Province after they planned to hold a memorial service on May 12, for the victims of the 2008 Wenchuan earthquake.”

"The United States government joins the people of China in mourning the loss of tens of thousands of lives in the tragedy, and notes the value of memorializing their lives and calling for full accountability to prevent or mitigate future disasters," Nauert continued.

Nauert’s statement also called on Chinese government officials to protect the religious freedom of its citizens:

"Regarding reports that Chinese authorities confiscated Bibles, we call on China to uphold its international commitments to promote respect for religious freedom for all persons."

Over 200 Chinese Christians were reportedly arrested, and three have yet to be released, according to the church’s pastor, Wang Yi.

Message for Reflections – Sis. Angelica

Rejoice in all that you put your hand to

About 15 years ago, one brother came to meet me and said,

“I have finished engineering. Worked in many countries. For the past 20 yrs, I have been into many businesses. But nothing prospered. I’m married but no children. I am a Christian. Why am I not prospering in my life?”

I had to sit with him, along with the Holy Spirit to make an analysis of his life. It took almost 3 hrs. When we prayed together, the Lord showed the spreadsheet of his life to him. How he was stuck up in a structural institution called “Church” all these years. The Lord convinced him that if at all he has to receive the promises and blessings of the Lord mentioned in Bible, he has to step out of the structural institution which has suppressed him, exercise the authority which Jesus has entrusted him with and work for Him. He came to understand how he was misled by the structural Church all these years, not giving any role for the Holy Spirit in his life. He admitted his failures and surrendered his life to the Lord. Next day he went to meet his Church head and made his position clear. The Church head told him, “If you are leaving my Church, please do not disturb other people. Do not try to convince them of these ideas.”

He wanted to line up his life with God’s Word and His will, allowing the Holy Spirit to redirect and reprogram his life and actions. That very moment he felt the freedom and victory.

His life started progressing. He adopted 2 children. He is working and serving the Lord as a family.

It is the will of God that we, the children of God, rejoice in His presence, come to His rest, enjoy life in its abundance, and be blessed in all the works we do. (Dt. 12:9)

Then you and your household will eat in the presence of the LORD your God and rejoice with all the works of your hand with which he blessed you. Dt 12:7

No Place To Hide - Facial Recognition Technology Will End Your Privacy

1The Chinese police in Nanchang made news in mid April when the press reported the arrest at a concert of a man wanted for fraud. The story was significant because automatic facial recognition systems, linked through now 176 million cameras across the country (rising to 600 million by 2020), had picked the man out of a crowd of 60,000 concertgoers and allowed the police to pinpoint his location in real time.

The episode was promoted by the Chinese government as proof positive of the benefits of the Chinese surveillance state, but the notion that an authoritarian government uses automatic facial recognition to track its citizens everywhere has sent shivers down the spine of anyone concerned about privacy and who may not have full faith in the benevolence of the Chinese government.

Facial recognition holds the promise of an incredible leap forward in law enforcement but backwards in individual rights. No longer will oppressive governments need to employ human watchers to monitor video footage.

Now highly accurate computer algorithms, monitoring tens or even hundreds of millions of video feeds, match patterns of facial geometry to identify individuals, even if beards or makeup are used. A criminal suspect shows his face on a public street, at a shopping mall, in a bank or at a bus stop and an alert can immediately go out to summon police for arrest.

Tellingly, the same system can be used against terrorists, political dissidents, union leaders, human rights protestors, members of the press, the poor, or ethnic minorities. As Paul Harvey used to say, you can run, but you can't hide.

Though China has made the hardest push for ubiquitous surveillance through its vast network of cameras linked in real time to computer-based facial recognition, it is far from alone. The NYPD has been attempting to gain access to the state database of facial recognition information collected for driver's licenses.

The NYPD's Real Time Crime Center and Facial Identification Sections are not satisfied with using only the facial scans of those it has arrested but wants to link every driving adult to its camera-equipped system, the vast majority without ever having been arrested. Thousands of cameras now installed at NYC intersections, tunnels and public buildings are feeding data into automatic facial recognition systems similar to those in Communist China.

As a precursor to real-time facial recognition powered by machine algorithms, Georgetown University's Center on Privacy and Technology revealed in 2016 that 26 states are already sharing facial recognition data collected on driver's licenses and 16 of those also share with the FBI, meaning that roughly half of the adult population can already be identified through facial recognition, though only upon arrest at this point.

Proponents of automatic recognition systems linked to pervasive surveillance point to the ability to locate missing persons, help dementia patients, identify unconscious victims and catch dangerous felons. The drawbacks are much harder to swallow, however.

Protest movements such as Occupy Wall Street, the Tea Party Movement and Black Lives Matter, were all monitored by the FBI with thousands of faces being fed into federal databases, according to recently revealed information. Those attending vigils held for victims are also common targets for facial pattern collection, representing what amounts to a chilling crackdown on free speech.

With frightening similarity to Egyptian police who manually record protest marches so they can come, often in the night, to arrest dissidents for torture in secret prisons, the creation of a government database of known protestors and blacklists of Americans is unsettling to say the least.

The latest proposal to link such automatic systems to police body cams takes the concept even further because it makes every officer a walking eye of the surveillance state.

The recent leak of data on 87 million Facebook users is another cause for concern because Facebook, as its name implies, is currently the world's largest facial portrait database and the profile photos cannot be made private, according to company policies.

Facebook itself ran afoul of European privacy laws in 2012 and was forced to suspend its activities after it used facial recognition automatically to tag and link photos, a dangerous proposition for those who want to stay hidden from abusive ex-spouses.

The system showed a 97% accuracy in testing, superior at the time to even the FBI's modest 85% accuracy several years prior. Now it is reported to be ready to restart its facial recognition program for all users.

Even more worrying, there is strong evidence to indicate that private intelligence companies have already compiled this vast trove of 2.2 billion photos for facial recognition purposes, to be sold to governments and corporations alike.

Forbes magazine reported this year on a company called Terrogence, started by an ex-Mossad intelligence officer. For the last five years, Terrogence has specialized in the construction of huge face-scan databases, compiling the data from social networks, Youtube videos, Internet forums, blogs, official records, news articles and a host of other sources.

Terrogence has been selling cutting-edge intelligence technology and information to the NSA. So, what the government doesn't collect legally through driver's licenses and arrest data, it quietly purchases from private intelligence corporations.

Marketed as an effort to stop terrorism by tracking down jihadists solely by their faces, LinkedIn profiles and leaks from former employees, their involvement in politics appears to go much deeper, with one employee describing her job as "open source intelligence practices and social media engineering methods to investigate political and social groups."

The company quietly boasts of infiltrating political groups with fake online personas in an effort to gather intelligence and create dossiers on possible subversives, all for profit and free from even the loose legal tethers of the US deep state.

The American no-fly list is a famous example of a black list that, although a sensible project that started with good intentions, quickly spun out of control until it was banning toddlers with similar names. There was no way for an individual to know if they were on it, how they got there or if there was a way to get off such a black list.

The same threat to personal liberty now exists with privatized "black lists" created from these corporate databases and, in addition to being denied access to flights, the consequences could be high-risk police stops, pervasive monitoring and restrictions on normal activities, all based on automatic facial recognition.

Communist China has made no efforts to hide what will soon be a total-information surveillance state, but the United States is quietly building out the same level of control through private contractors and a patchwork connection of corporate and government data.

The reality is that all our unique facial signatures are likely already in a database, whether government or corporate, and those databases are being linked, slowly at first, to automatic facial recognition systems through cameras popping up around major cities.  There will soon be nowhere to hide. Comparisons to Orwell's 1984 have become cliché by now, but what else can really be said except that Orwell never dreamed it would go this far.

Indonesia: Islamic Extremist Suicide Bomber Family Attacks Three Churches, Kills at Least 12

Islamic extremists in Indonesia, including a family of suicide bombers that targeted three churches, launched multiple attacks yesterday and today that reportedly killed at least 12 people not including the assailants.

The father of the family that killed the Christians on Sunday (May 13), Dita Futrianto, was the suspected head of the local cell of an Islamic State-inspired network called Jemaah Ansharut Daulah (JAD), the BBC reported, citing police.

Futrianto was reported to have dropped off his wife, Puji Kuswati, and their two daughters, ages 9 and 12, at Diponegoro Indonesian Christian Church in Surabaya, East Java. With her two daughters present, Kuswati hugged a parishioner before detonating her bomb, according to the Associated Press, citing a security guard.

At Surabaya Centre Pentecostal Church, Futrianto then drove his car onto the church grounds and detonated explosives. Earlier in the morning his sons, ages 16 and 18, had ridden motorcycles into Santa Maria Catholic Church and detonated their explosives. Police reportedly said the second and third church attacks came five minutes apart.

East Java police told reporters today that 13 of the 25 dead were the assailants, according to the Jakarta Post. The newspaper reported that 12 people died in the church attacks.

Two other churches were targeted as well, but bombs failed to explode at St. Jacob's Church in West Surabaya and the Sacred Heart of Jesus Cathedral, according to the Post.

Another family reportedly attacked a police station this morning (May 14), wounding 10 people, including police officers. The four perpetrators on two motorbikes died after driving into the building gateway and detonating explosives, according to police, who said an 8-year-old girl on one of the motorcycles was thrown from the vehicle but survived.

On Sunday night (May 13), a bomb in the Wonocolo low-cost housing complex in Sidoarjo exploded prematurely, killing a woman and her 17-year-old child, police said. Officers reportedly found the father of the family in the house holding a detonator and shot him. The family’s 12-year-old son reportedly took two younger sisters to the Bhayangkara Police hospital.

Police said they killed four suspected members of JAD in Cianjur, West Java Province, and arrested two others, according to the BBC.The Islamic State (IS) claimed responsibility for Sunday’s church attacks in Indonesia.

The bombings, the deadliest in Indonesia in more than a decade, also wounded more than 40 people, police told journalists.

IS first mounted attacks in Indonesia in 2016, claiming the lives of four civilians in explosions and shootings. It also claimed responsibility for an attack on a high-security prison near Jakarta that killed five security forces personnel earlier this month, among other attacks.

Al-Qaeda has carried out the worst attacks in Indonesia, killing more than 200 people on the island of Bali in 2002. Other attacks killed 22 people on the island of Sulawesi in May 2005, and 20 in Bali later that year.

On Feb. 11 in Central Java’s city of Yogyakarta, a Muslim extremist attacked a Catholic church. The 23-year-old identified as Suliyono of Bayuwangi in East Java wounded a priest and three others during Mass at St. Lidwina Catholic Church.

The Jakarta Post quoted National Police spokesman Setyo Wasisto as saying that the assault fit a pattern of recent attacks by terrorists in other countries, and that Suliyono had been radicalized after joining several religious organizations, which he declined to name, while a student in Sulawesi.

Indonesia ranked 38th on Christian support organization Open Doors’ World Watch List of the 50 countries where it is mot difficult to live as a Christian.

Indonesia Bombings ‘Did Not Come as a Surprise’

As details emerge of the shocking tactics used in the two bomb attacks in Indonesia over the last 48 hours, a regional analyst has said he was not surprised by the apparent Islamist motive.

“Just a few weeks before the attacks, the government published a study, according to which close to 25 per cent of university students agree with the idea of a caliphate. Another study showed that eight per cent are ready for violent jihad, if given the opportunity. So in a way did not come as a surprise,” Thomas Muller, analyst at Christian charity Open Doors International’s World Watch Research unit, said in a radio interview for a Catholic broadcaster yesterday , answering a question about how a country once known for its inter-religious tolerance could give way to extremism.

A 2016 report looking at terrorism in Indonesia found that recruitment to the Islamic State group from the country was “one of the lowest” in the region as a proportion of its 200 million population, which it put down to “a strong culture of moderate Islam, a non-repressive government and relative political stability”. The report, by a group of regional analysts, said the threat from IS-inspired militants “should not be under-estimated”, however, given Indonesia’s long history of Islamic terrorism and lack of legal measures to prosecute individuals under suspicion of terrorism.

Yesterday‘s (13 May) suicide attacks on three churches in Surabaya, the capital city of East Java province, by members of a single family were followed by this morning’s (14 May) suicide attack on a police headquarters by a family of five. Indonesian police have revealed that the family that attacked the three churches on Sunday included two girls, aged nine and 12, two teenage boys, and both of their parents, identified in the New York Times as Dita Oepriarto and his wife, Puji Kuswati.

An eight-year-old girl, wedged between her parents on a motorbike during this morning’s attack on the police headquarters, survived the blast.

Meanwhile police said that an explosion yesterday at a block of flats in Surabaya killed three members of a family who may have been planning an attack.

Latest figures from the BBC put the overall death toll from the three attacks at 18, with more than 40 injured. Yesterday’s attacks were the most deadly. The two teenaged sons rode motorcycles into Santa Maria Catholic Church and detonated explosives at 07:30 local time, just five minutes before their father drove a bomb-laden car at Surabaya Centre Pentecostal Church, and followed shortly after by their mother and two sisters carrying out a bomb attack on Diponegoro Indonesian Christian Church.

Response to the attacks

Indonesian President Joko Widodo described the attacks as “cowardly, undignified and inhumane” and said he will push through a long-awaited anti-terrorism bill if parliament does not pass it.

President Widodo was one of 70 prominent Muslim scholars meeting at the presidential palace in West Java to discuss peace in Afghanistan just three days ago, on 11 May. The group, from Pakistan, Indonesia and Afghanistan, issued a fatwa saying that “violent extremism and terrorism, including suicide attacks, are against Islamic principles” in an effort aimed at convincing the Taliban to end its violence, reported Associated Press.

Indonesia’s largest Muslim organisation, Nahdlatul Ulama, condemned the attacks. “Every act of hostility that manipulates religion is not supported by Islam,” it said in a statement.

In a statement from the Christian Conference of Asia, its General Secretary Dr. Mathews George Chunakara expressed his condolences to the victims’ families and stated that the attack carried out against worshiping communities during Sunday services is a “heinous crime, which is not justifiable by any religion”. He said the attacks “aim at destroying the country’s long-nurtured and cherished values of religious harmony”.

Pope Francis prayed that those affected would find no place in their hearts for “hatred and violence”, but instead “reconciliation and fraternity”, reported Catholic news site Crux.

The attacks are the worst in Indonesia since Al-Qaeda killed 22 people on the island of Sulawesi in May 2005, and 20 in Bali later that year.

The Islamic State group has claimed responsibility for the Surabaya attacks, which are believed to have been orchestrated by Jemaah Ansharut Daulah (JAD), an Indonesian militant group formed in 2015 and affiliated to IS. JAD is led by the jailed terrorist Aman Abdurrahman, who has been accused of spreading IS propaganda from behind bars. Abdurrahman is currently facing new charges of masterminding attacks including the November 2016 bombing of a church playground that left one child dead.

The Surabaya attacks show more sophistication than previous “amateurish” plots by JAD, Zachary Abuza of the National War College in Washington DC told the BBC. The use of children in the attacks was “absolutely unprecedented” in the region, he said, and speaks to the “ideological indoctrination” of the group.

World Watch Monitor reported in March that an attack on a church on the island of Sumatra was a “political warning” ahead of June’s regional elections. A local source said at the time that “in [Indonesian] politics, targeting Christians is a classic manoeuvre to garner votes and support from Muslims”.

The terrorist attacks came only days after Islamist militant prisoners ended a five-day siege at a high-security jail on the outskirts of the capital Jakarta, reported Reuters. During the stand-off the militants killed five members of Indonesia’s counter-terrorism force, Densus 88. The elite force was set up in 2003 following the 2002 Bali nightclub  bombing that left 202 people dead. Densus 88 was described in 2016 as having “become better than pretty well any other counter-terrorism group in the world” at foiling attacks.

The 70th Anniversary of Israel: 'If You Will it, it is No Dream'

On May 14, 1948, David Ben-Gurion gathered with 250 guests in the Tel Aviv Museum (known today as Independence Hall). Ben-Gurion was head of the World Zionist Organization, a movement dedicated to creating a homeland for the Jewish people in their historic Promised Land.

Behind him hung a portrait of Theodor Herzl, the founder of modern Zionism. At 4:00 p.m., Ben-Gurion banged his gavel. He then read a proclamation declaring the existence of the modern State of Israel.

I have stood several times in Independence Hall. Each time, I am moved again by the courage of the men and women who risked their lives and families to birth their nation.

In a move timed to coincide with this dramatic anniversary, the United States is relocating its embassy to Jerusalem at 4:00 p.m. (8:00 a.m. in Dallas) today. Palestinian marches against the move have already begun.

Four biblical themes that explain modern-day Israel

In Israel: A Concise History of a Nation Reborn, historian Daniel Gordis describes Israel as “a story of a homeless people that kept a dream alive for millennia, of a people’s redemption from the edge of the abyss, of a nation forging a future where none seemed possible.”

Gordis traces several biblical themes that converged in the creation of modern-day Israel.

One: The importance of the Promised Land.

Gordis notes, “There could be no Jewish nation, and no Jewish family, their ‘diary’ [the Bible] intimated, without their land at the center of the story.” He adds, “Genesis is fundamentally the story of Abraham’s complex family, but central to that story is the land on which they have been told to live.”

Two: The need for courage.

The Zionists understood from Scripture that “the road to true freedom would be long and difficult.” In the book of Joshua, the people had to cross a flooded river. Canaan was occupied by seven different nations. Wars were frequent, and the land was seldom without conflict.

Three: The danger of disunity.

As the Jews established themselves in Canaan, they faced constant threats from their enemies near and far. When they divided into Northern and Southern Kingdoms, they fell captive to the Assyrians and then the Babylonians.

Four: The call of God.

The Jewish Bible (what we call the Old Testament) is arranged so that its last book is not Malachi but 2 Chronicles. As a result, Gordis notes, “The Jews’ national story that had opened with God telling Abram to go to the ‘place that I will show you’ (the Land of Israel)–concludes with the Bible’s very last words, ‘Let him go up [to Jerusalem]'” (2 Chronicles 36:23).

“What is the secret of his immortality?”

Those who founded the modern State of Israel learned from their biblical ancestors the importance of trusting God’s promises, serving him with courage, living in unity, and fulfilling God’s call by faith. After more than twenty trips to Israel, I can testify that these values still animate these remarkable people.

New York Times columnist David Brooks: “Jews are a famously accomplished group. They make up 0.2 percent of the world population, but 54 percent of the world chess champions, 27 percent of the Nobel physics laureates and 31 percent of the medicine laureates.”

Fifty years before the birth of the modern State of Israel, Mark Twain wrote an extraordinary essay for Harper’s Magazine on the Jewish people. He concluded:

“The Egyptian, the Babylonian, and the Persian rose, filled the planet with sound and splendor, then faded to dream-stuff and passed away; the Greek and the Roman followed, and made a vast noise, and they are gone; other peoples have sprung up and held their torch high for a time, but it burned out, and they sit in twilight now, or have vanished.

“The Jew saw them all, beat them all, and is now what he always was, exhibiting no decadence, no infirmities of age, no weakening of his parts, no slowing of his energies, no dulling of his alert and aggressive mind. All things are mortal but the Jew; all other forces pass, but he remains. What is the secret of his immortality?”

“Pray for the peace of Jerusalem”

On this historic day, how does Scripture answer Mark Twain’s question?

I am convinced that God is still using the Jewish people. Whatever our position regarding Israel and prophecy, we should acknowledge that God made the children of Abraham into “a great nation.” And that through them “all the families of the earth shall be blessed” (Genesis 12:23).

Now God is calling us to love the Jewish people as he does.

Paul said of his fellow Jews, “Brothers, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for them is that they may be saved” (Romans 10:1). Standing before the Jewish supreme council, Peter said of Jesus, “There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved” (Acts 4:12).

The Lord wants the Jewish people to make Jesus their Messiah, that they might know God as their Father and Lord.

Scripture teaches that our Lord loves the Arab people as well. He said of Ishmael, the ancestor of the Arabs, “I will make him into a great nation” (Genesis 17:20). In fact, God loves all nations and anticipates the day when people “from all tribes and peoples and languages” are gathered with him in heaven (Revelation 7:9).

On this historic day, would you take a moment to “pray for the peace of Jerusalem” (Psalm 122:6)? Would you pray for a day when Jews, Arabs, and all other peoples make the Prince of Peace their Lord?

When he called for a Jewish state fifty years before the rebirth of Israel, Theodor Herzl assured his people, “If you will it, it is no dream.” He was right.

Message for Reflections – Sis. Angelica

Correct and Discipline

After 5 days of tight scheduled coordinating work, I called to appreciate Malathy (name changed). She replied, “Sister, please tell me my negative points so that I can correct myself and grow. My father has taught me so. He has told me never to desire appreciation but ask for the flaws I have made in my work and correct myself ”

I felt like honouring that father who has disciplined his girl child in the Lord’s way.

Disciplining is needed in every sphere of life. A child is disciplined by the parents. When it goes to school, it is disciplined by the teachers, friends, society. As one gets married, husband and wife get disciplined by another family and  in laws. When you enter into a career, job, one is disciplined by the co workers,   boss, manager, clients, customers and so on.

In the book of Revelation the Lord said,

All the religions in the world claim that they are trying  to discipline you to get closer to God and  achieve eternal life. Each has its own way – some do away with all the earthly things, food, even clothes for this. Some discipline both your body and soul. They recommend, going to jungle, leave your kith and kins, no speech, no contacts with the world, etc..

Here the Lord says, it is I who discipline you. Just like a father disciplines his son, He will also discipline you.

Deut 8:5  Be convinced in your heart that as a father disciplines his son, so the LORD your God disciplines you.

Rev 3:19  I correct and discipline those whom I love, so be serious and repent!

Shall we ask the Lord ever day, “Lord show me my flaws and correct me”?

The 23rd Psalm

This is an eye opener; some probably never thought nor looked at this Psalm in this way, even though they say it over and over again.

The Lord is my Shepherd

New Poll Shows Beliefs About "God" vs. "God Of The Bible"

The rise of the "nones", the new atheist movement and the expulsion of God from the public sphere have been heralded in one religious survey after another for twenty years. But a new study conducted by the Pew Research Center raises questions about what it means to believe in God and calls into question the modern use of labels such as Christian, atheist, spiritual and believer. Those professing belief in the God of the Bible, 56% of those surveyed, still find themselves in the majority but the other answers offer several interesting insights into religious belief in the United States.

The survey was conducted with 4,700 American adults who were asked the opening question, "Do you believe in God?" Those who professed their belief (80%) were then asked if it was the God of the Bible (56%) or whether it were some other higher power or spiritual force (23%). Interestingly, the group that claimed not to believe in God (19%) was also presented with the option to claim their belief in a higher power or spiritual force and a surprising 9% of the total survey population did just that.

This seemingly contradictory result exposes the major fault lines in American religious life today as generations of believers drift away from the Church. The term "atheist" as well has become confused with those who reject organized religion but continue to hold a belief in God, as opposed to those who positively claim that God does not exist.

When asked whether God, or a similar being, influences or controls the events of their life completely or to a great extent, fully 48% of the survey participants responded that they agreed, whereas another 18% believe that is true "some of the time" leaving a total of 66% of the 4,700 surveyed adults professing a belief that God intercedes in the world to affect our lives. In perhaps another example of shifting terminology, 39% of those who claim not to pray, regularly do "talk to God" and often claim to receive responses, which begs the question as to their understanding of what prayer really is? In total, around 75% Americans surveyed do "talk to God" (prayer or otherwise) and around 30% say that He responds to them.

Further demographic information offers little surprise as the survey confirms 91% of Black protestants and 87% of evangelicals believe that God is omnibenevolent, omniscient and omnipotent, whereas only around 60% of Catholics and mainline protestants agree.

Republicans believe in the Biblical God at a rate of 70% whereas Democrats fall in at a rate of 45%. Many hold more nebulous beliefs in "a higher power" while, at the same time, counting among their ranks a greater number of strong atheists.

The survey reiterates the wearisome statistics that show an inverse correlation between religious belief and education levels and a direct correlation between belief and age, with older respondents being more confident in their belief.

The survey cannot predict whether those same younger adults will become more religious as they age, but the increase of vague notions about "higher powers and spiritual forces" is more pronounced in younger Americans. It is becoming more and more clear that there are two main fault-lines in American religious belief.  One, more Americans are rejecting the church while continuing to embrace their own, personal beliefs in God and the Bible. And two, there is no longer a clear consensus among Americans on what it means to believe in God, to be Christian, to pray or even to be atheist. It is the logical, and tragic, consequence of Biblical illiteracy.

These actions, labels and statements of belief have become malleable, forming to meet the desires and opinions of each individual wandering lost in a wilderness of doubt and personal belief.  That is why we have believers who don't "pray" but who often "talk to God and receive a response", "atheists" who believe in a higher power that intercedes in their lives, and "Christians" who believe neither in God nor the Bible.

So, when an American claims that they "believe in God" it might be a good idea to ask what, exactly, they mean by that.

Discovery of Ancient Israelite City Supports Biblical Account of King David

new archaeological discovery is helping to confirm the biblical record that presents King David as an historical figure in ancient Israel.

Some archaeologists and experts have doubted the biblical account because they have not been able to find any evidence of civilization dating back to the time when David is supposed to have ruled, according to the Bible: “no fortifications, public works or signs of statehood.”

“Until 25 years ago no one doubted that King David was a historical figure,”  adds Professor Avraham Faust, director of the archaeological dig. “In the last 25 years or so, however, David’s historicity, and especially the size of his kingdom, are hotly debated“.

That is no longer true, however, after this recent discovery.

“The new discovery at Tel ‘Eton, located in the Judean Shephelah to the east of the Hebron hills, seems to suggest that the highland kingdom controlled larger areas than some scholars believe”, Faust continued, as reported by Breaking Israel News.

The city discovered has been identified as the biblical city of Eglon, a Canaanite city which fought against Israel.

Professor Faust explained the significance of the discovery in greater detail:

“We, of course, did not find any artifacts that said ‘King David’ or King Solomon’ but we discovered at the site signs of a social transformation the region underwent, including the construction of a large edifice in a plan known to archaeologists as ‘the four-room house’ which is common in Israel but is rare to non-existent elsewhere...Since the source of the change seems to be in the highlands, and since it took place at the time when David was supposed to have existed, the link is plausible.”

Although archaeologists are careful not to allow faith to influence their work, Christians can surely be excited to see another piece of evidence confirming the biblical account.

15 Christians Murdered while Attending Church in Central African Republic

Fifteen Christians were gunned down while attending a church service in Bangui, Central African Republic on Tuesday, reports The Christian Post.

The Christians had been attending a worship service at Notre Dame de Fatima church when the attack occurred.

"Filled with panic, some Christians began to flee until bullets and grenades began to fall in the parish grounds, trapping those who remained in the compound," recalled Moses Aliou, one of the priests at the church at the time of the attack. Another priest, identified as Albert Toungoumale Baba, was one of the 15 killed when the gunmen opened fire.

The gunmen responsible for the attack have yet to be identified. The Christian Post also reports that the Central African Republic is in the middle of a civil war and there has been unrest and even violent clashes between CAR’s army and the Muslim PK5 community.

This is also not the first time the Notre Dame de Fatima church has been the target of an attack. In 2014, over a dozen people, also including a priest, were killed there.

"Once again it is the civilian population, especially women and children, who pay the price of violence," said Najat Rochdi, the UN’s humanitarian coordinator for the CAR in a telling statement.

Burma Bombing Drives Christian, Ethnic Kachin Civilians from Their Homes

The Burma (Myanmar) military in April bombed predominantly Christian, ethnic Kachin civilians and restricted aid to displaced villagers trapped in the wilds, sources said.

Burma government forces fired artillery and dropped bombs on Awng Lawt village in mid-April near the northern town of Tanai, Kachin state, sending 2,000 villagers fleeing their homes, according to local Christian leaders. Sin Gau, a member of Kachin Baptist Convention, told Morning Star News the Burma army also bombed bases of the rebel Kachin Independence Army (KIA) and civilians in nearby villages.

“Fighting continues in Tanai region – villagers are fleeing,” Sin Gau said. “Some arrived in Myitkyina [capital of Kachin state], but some are trapped. Some are missing. We lost contact with them. We don’t hear anything about them.”

Sin Gau said the Burma army also restricted access of aid into conflict-stricken areas where villagers are trapped. There are landmines in nearby villages where fighting is taking place that also make it difficult for local villagers and aid groups to provide aid, he said.

Due to escalating fighting in Tanai and Hpakant in Kachin state since early April, rights groups and the United Nations estimated there are 4,000 displaced people, many of them seeking shelters in church buildings. The displaced include the elderly and children who have walked for days to escape the escalation in Kachin state, where most of the population is Christian.

As bombs and artillery shelling landed in their villages and in surrounding areas, the displaced carried what they could on their way to safer places, aided by local Christian leaders. Pregnant women, the disabled and children were among the displaced civilians.

In separate fighting in Kasot village, in Mohnyin District on April 20, the Burma army used airstrikes and artillery shelling that forced hundreds of villagers to seek shelter from the Kachin Baptist Church and the Roman Catholic Church in Lan Gwa village in Namti town, according to local sources.

While thousands are displaced, local aid groups said there are concerns that many villagers remain trapped in conflict-stricken areas. They called on Burmese government to allow humanitarian access to displaced communities.

Knut Ostby, U.N. resident and humanitarian coordinator in Burma, said in a statement on April 20 that he was deeply concerned about the reports of an escalation in armed conflict in several areas in Kachin State since April 7.

“I have been particularly alarmed of reports of civilian casualties and the plight of communities affected by the fighting,” Ostby said. “These civilians include women, as well as pregnant and breastfeeding women, children, elderly people, sick and injured people, who are in a dire situation and in urgent need of humanitarian assistance and protection.”

He urged all parties involved in conflicts to allow displaced villagers to move to safer places, and he reminded them “of their obligations under International Humanitarian Law.”

The U.S. Embassy in Rangoon also released a statement on Friday (April 27), saying it was “deeply concerned about intensified fighting in Kachin state, which has forced thousands of people to flee their homes.”

“We call upon the government, including the military, to protect civilian populations and allow humanitarian assistance to be delivered to those affected by the conflicts,” read the statement.

Christian ethnic minorities have long suffered in Burma, where the government has recognized the special status of Buddhism and promoted it as a means to consolidate support. Burma is about 80 percent Buddhist and 9 percent Christian.

The Burma military routinely occupies churches and summons entire congregations for interrogation, according to a report the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) released in December 2016.

“The Tatmadaw [Burmese armed forces] occupied Chin, Naga, and Kachin areas and routinely occupied, desecrated, or destroyed places of worship, Christian crosses, and other sacred sites,” the report states. “This practice continues today in active armed conflict zones.”

The military continues to perpetrate grave human rights violations with near total impunity, including sexual violence in church compounds and the torture of pastors, church workers, and ordinary civilians, according to the report, “Hidden Plight: Christian Minorities in Burma.”

After more than five years of intensified conflict since Burma violated the 17-year cease-fire in 2011, many Kachin face protracted displacement and are desperate to return home, according to the report.

Government military operations in northern Burma (Myanmar) escalated in December, culminating in civilian casualties on Christmas Eve that left Christians feeling attacked in part for their faith. Offensives against rebel groups in Kachin state displaced dozens of villagers and seriously injured two civilians on Christmas Eve, local sources said.

The Burma army and KIA have been fighting since 2011 following the breakdown of a bilateral ceasefire.

The fighting that escalated in early December 2017 in Kachin state has spread to Shan state, in northeastern Burma, where the Burma army reportedly also used helicopters and jets, according to rebel sources. Shelling further spread in Shan state on New Year’s Eve, forcing more than 900 local villagers in Kyaukme Township and Namhsan Township to flee, according to the Relief and Resettlement Department in Kyaukme.

KIA is one of some 20 ethnic rebel groups that have fought for self-determination, autonomy, freedom and other fundamental rights since Burma gained independence from the British in 1948. The Burmese government and ethnic rebels have been in peace talks since 2011, and eight rebel groups have signed bilateral ceasefire agreements and a Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement with the Burmese government.

More than 10 ethnic rebel groups, including the powerful Kachin Independence Organization and ethnic Wa, Kokang and Palaung peoples, haven’t signed the agreements.

Ethnic groups believe the fighting in Kachin state is meant to pressure the KIO to sign the ceasefire agreement.

Burma ranked 24th on Christian support organization Open Doors’ 2018 World Watch List of the 50 countries where it is most difficult to be a Christian.

Message for Reflections – Sis. Angelica

Obeying the Lord

I know one grandmother who has seen her 4th generation and is now with 37 members in her family. She brought up her children in the fear of God, hard work and in obedience to the commandments of God. There was regular prayer in the family every morning and evening. Today they are blessed and are put up like lights in various parts of the world.

Deu 6:3  Then hear, O, Israel, and be careful to do it, so that it may be well with you, and that you may greatly multiply, as Jehovah, the God of our fathers has promised you, in the land that flows with milk and honey

Why should we obey the commandments of the Lord?

For 7 reasons

  1. That you may greatly multiply Deu 6:3
  2. That your life may be prolonged Deu 6:2
  3. That it may be well with them and with their sons for ever. Deu 5:29
  4. That you may live and that good may be to you, and you may make your days longer in the land which you shall possess. Deu 5:33
  5. That all your enemies may be cast out from before you. Deu 6:19
  6. That He might bring us in to give us the land Deu 6:23
  7. That it shall be our righteousness. Deu 6:25

When Christian Conservatives Are Compared To The 9/11 Terrorists

To put things in perspective, when Barack Obama ran for president in 2008, he stated clearly that marriage was the union of one man and one woman. And he knew he needed to do this to win the conservative, black vote.

Today, you are branded a radical and a dangerous fanatic if you espouse that same view. You will be grilled by the tolerance inquisition!

Ten years ago, you would have laughed me to scorn if I told you Bruce Jenner would become Caitlyn Jenner and be named woman of the year. You would have ridiculed me if I told you the federal government would punish schools that refused to open the girls' bathrooms and locker rooms to boys who identified as girls.

Today, "transphobic" is a household word. A gender-confused teen has his (her?) own reality TV show. And drag queens are reading stories to toddlers in libraries.

Telling the Truth

Ten years ago, you wouldn't have believed that a minor with unwanted same-sex attraction would be forbidden by law to receive professional counseling.

Ten years ago, you would have said "Impossible!" to the idea that a minor with unwanted same-sex attraction would be forbidden by law to receive professional counseling.

Especially if that child had been sexually abused and wanted counseling, but was still denied. And you would have dismissed the notion that some states would seek to bar such counseling from adults as well.

Today, a number of states have outlawed this much-needed counseling for struggling minors. California is poised to make it illegal for anyone of any age to receive professional help for unwanted same-sex attraction or gender-confusion. That is the unvarnished, unembellished truth.

This is what comes your way when you oppose radical LGBT activism. This is what you can expect when you take a stand for liberty and freedom. This is what happens when you tell the truth.

What Does Science Say?

This same gay activist wrote,

In the final analysis, Michael Brown is an advocate of pseudoscience in order to conform the world to his religious beliefs. It should be noted that Brown sports a PhD in Near Eastern Languages. Obviously, he has no training or work experience relative to human sexuality.

He claimed that there is no scientific evidence that sexual orientation can be changed through counseling. No evidence that gender-confused children can, with help, become at home in their own bodies. Then, he wrote,

Actually, I and others have been citing scientific literature for years, along with an endless number of personal anecdotes from friends and colleagues. (I'm talking about former-homosexuals and former-transgenders.)

But whoever we cite gets dismissed immediately. Because these psychologists and psychiatrists and therapists and scholars do not adhere to the standard LGBT talking points.

When you try to pass laws that will take away essential freedoms of those you differ with, you only discredit yourselves.

Ryan Anderson provides ample scientific literature about transgender issues in his new book. And a major review of scientific literature by two prominent psychologists addresses broader issues of sexual orientation change as well. Be assured that the science is there.

Allow Others to Find Their Own Path

This, however, is not to deny that there are many gays and transgenders who have tried to change, without success. They have suffered depression and fear and self-loathing, spiraling even deeper into hopelessness after unsuccessful therapy efforts.

I do not minimize their struggles, I do not pretend to be able to relate to what they have endured, and I constantly call on the Church to show great compassion to such strugglers.

But to each of them -- and to the critics who attack us with such venom -- I make a simple appeal. Allow others to find their own path.

When you try to pass laws that will take away essential freedoms of those you differ with, and when you demonize those who oppose your values, you only discredit yourselves.

In the long run, this will work against you. We will overcome your venom and anger and bills and laws with grace and truth and love -- and God's help.

Christian Soldier in Egypt Shot in another Mysterious Military Death

Another Christian soldier in Egypt has died under mysterious circumstances.

The family of Mikhail Farahat Saad received notice from the army on April 22 that their son had died in a military camp in North Sinai Governorate, near El Arish, reported Al Karma TV. He was 22.

When his body last week was transported to the southern Egyptian town of Qusiya, where his family lives, his death certificate stated he died from a “gunshot wound that resulted in his death,” according to Al Karma.

At first a nurse and a soldier accompanying the body denied any knowledge of the cause of death, but later they said he died when a rifle accidentally fired while he was cleaning it, according to Al Karma.

A relative who is not a member of his immediate family told Al Karma in a live phone interview on April 23, however, that a doctor at Qusiya General Hospital who examined the body said the bullet wound entered from the back and exited from the front, shattering the jaw. The entry and exit wounds indicated someone else shot him, he said.

The relative, identified only as Yousef, told Al Karma’s Dr. Mona Roman that Saad had spent 2.5 years in the army and was not a novice in gun maintenance and cleaning safety regulations.

At this writing the army has issued no official explanation for his death.

Saad was the latest of several Christian soldiers to die in military camp, with the army citing “suicide” as the cause of death in most cases.

On July 19, 2017, another Coptic Christian, 22-year-old Joseph Helmy, died in a hospital near Al-Salaam. Four soldiers were reportedly arrested on suspicions of beating him to death.

Other Coptic Christians who have died for their faith while serving in the Egyptian military include Michael Gamel Mansour. On Feb. 17, 2016, the Egyptian military informed his family that the 22-year-old conscript from Assuit had committed suicide. Authorities claimed Mansour, who was assigned to a unit that guards El Gomhoreya Stadium in Cairo, shot himself with a rifle.

On Nov. 20, 2015, the military informed Nataay Boushra that his son, Private First Class Bishoy Nataay Boushra, a second-year conscript soldier in the Egyptian army, was dead, also a victim of suicide. Boushra, 21, served in the Central Security Forces (CSF), a ubiquitous, 450,000-man unit under the command of the Ministry of Interior used to augment the Egyptian National Police.

According to the military, Boushra was found dead the morning of Nov. 20, 2015 in the bathroom of a military jail cell with a sheet wrapped around his neck. Officials told Nataay Boushra that his son hung himself from a windowsill.

In addition to the ligature marks expected from a hanging or strangling death, Boushra’s torso was covered with bruises and huge welts from what appeared to be sustained, brutal beatings.

For months before his death, according to his father, Boushra endured threats, violence, intense verbal abuse and public humiliation from a fellow draftee, a Muslim known to the public only as “Mustafa.” Boushra took the abuse in stride until Nov. 4, when the Muslim soldier launched into yet another tirade against Christianity. Boushra picked up a stick the size of an ax handle and hit the other soldier in the head, knocking him to the ground, according to military court testimony.

The soldier was taken to a hospital for examination and then released. Both men were arrested and placed together in a jail cell awaiting a hearing in a military court. For reasons still unknown, another soldier who was a friend of Mustafa was later locked in the military prison cell with Boushra and Mustafa, the same cell in which he was later found dead, according to the military.

In August 2015, a Muslim soldier reportedly shot Coptic Christian Bahaa Karam, in Marsa Matruh, Matrouh Governorate, during a religious dispute. He was 22.

In July 2015, the army reported Abraam Girgis, 21, died after receiving multiple injuries at his post at the Central Security unit in Cairo. In June 2015, Bahaa Silvanus 23, was said to have committed suicide, but relatives denied the claim.

The army claimed Abou al-Khair, 22, committed suicide in August 2013. In September 2006, Girgis Youssef, 20, died from a “sudden drop in blood pressure,” according to the army, but relatives said they found injuries consistent with torture on his body.

In August 2006, the body of Hany Nasrallah, 21, was found in the Nile River in Upper Egypt with signs of torture.

Egypt was ranked 17th on Christian support organization Open Doors’ 2018 World Watch List of the countries where it is most difficult to be a Christian.

Anti-Conversion' Bill Becomes Law in Uttarakhand State, India

Uttarakhand has become the seventh state in India to put “anti-conversion” legislation in force.

Gov. Krishna Kant Paul on April 18 signed the “Freedom of Religion” bill (Dharma Swatantrata Adhiniyam), which the state Legislative Assembly had passed.

“The bill has been signed by the governor,” Ravi Bijarniya, assistant director for information in the governor’s office, told Morning Star News.

Despite confirmation from the governor’s office, sources at the Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly (Vidhan Sabha) denied receipt of the signed bill.

“We confirm the receipt of 10 bills, which do not include the anti-conversion bill,” Officer on Special Duty R.B. Pant told Morning Star News. “We had sent the anti-conversion bill for approval on April 17, and if it has been signed, we might receive it soon.”

While staff members of the concerned office deny receiving the signed bill, local media and Jagran, a national newspaper, have reported the news of the governor’s approval of the bill and enforcement of the act.

Uttarakhand now joins Orissa, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh and Jharkhand as states that have adopted anti-conversion bills, which Hindu extremists routinely use to falsely accuse Christians of forcible or fraudulent conversion.

Dr. John Dayal, spokesman for the United Christian Forum and the All India Catholic Union, told Morning Star News that enacting the anti-conversion law was driven by the ruling group’s communal agenda.

“It fails the very basic test of explaining to the world the need for having such a law,” he said. “There is no forcible or fraudulent conversion in the state to the Christian or Muslim or Sikh faiths shown either by the Census data or by the police statistics. In the absence of such reality, the only explanation can be that it is to threaten the minority communities or to curb the freedom of religion of the Dalit and backward communities whose rights are being crushed by the upper castes which exercise political power in the state.”

The ruling party came to power on a “rabid communal platform,” he added.

“We will challenge such a law, in the court of law and the court of public opinion,” Dayal said.

Regulating the Holy Spirit

The new law makes forced conversions a non-bailable offense punishable by a jail term of between one and five years. If a victim of “forced conversion” is a minor, woman or person belonging to either a Scheduled Caste (Dalit) or a Scheduled Tribe (Tribal), the minimum jail term is two years.

The law also makes it mandatory to obtain permission from the state government prior to religious conversion. An affidavit has to be submitted with the respective District Magistrate at least one month prior to conversion. Persons converting for the purposes of marriage also must submit the same affidavit one month prior to marrying.

If this procedure is not followed and conversion is discovered, it will be invalidated and considered illegal by the state government.

The law also requires the clergy performing the conversion ceremony to give a month’s advance notice to the district magistrate. After receiving such information, a police enquiry will be conducted “with regard to the real intention, purpose and the cause of that proposed religion conversion,” according reports.

The law stipulates that any marriage solemnized for the sole purpose of conversion by a man belonging to one religion with a woman of another religion may be declared null and void by the family court, according to reports. The law also allows immediate family members of a person who has been converted to register a case to nullify the marriage.

Swift Passage

The entire process of introducing, passing and signing the bill took less than six months in a state where Christians are just 0.37 percent of the population, according to the 2011 Census. The state is ruled by the Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

The government of Uttarakhand, headed by Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat, prepared a draft bill after the Uttarakhand High Court in November 2017 suggested the state legislate a “Freedom of Religion Act” to keep a check on “sham” conversions, which in some cases were “only to facilitate the process of marriage,” according to the court.

While the judges admitted that “it is not the role of the court to give suggestions to the state government to legislate,” nevertheless it justified the suggestion, “due to fast changing social milieu.”

The state cabinet, in a meeting led by the chief minister, cleared a draft of the bill on March 12, and it was subsequently introduced in the State Legislative Assembly and passed on March 22. The BJP enjoys a three-fourths majority in the 70-member House.

According to Pant, the bill was sent for the governor’s approval on April 17. Local media on April 19 reported that the governor gave his approval on April 18.

The swiftness of the Uttarakhand government to comply with a mere suggestion by the High Court has led many to believe the process was a mere formality.

Before passage, Dr. Indira Hridayesh, leader of the Opposition in the Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly, was quoted in media as saying, “There was no need to come up with this piece of legislation; they know they cannot win the elections solely on their own work and are now going back to the RSS [Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh] agenda of Ram Mandir [temple] and religious conversions.”

She had highlighted that the bill would violate the provisions of religious freedom that allows individuals to practice religion of their choice without interference.

The Rev. Theodore Mascarenhas, general secretary of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India, told Morning Star News that the law empowers the government to trespass on private life.

“It is a complete encroachment on the private life of a person,” Mascarenhas said. “Religion and faith is something very private; it cannot be taken into public domain and controlled from the outside. These are personal decisions.”

Dr. Satish John, vice president of the Minority Commission of Uttarakhand, saw the law as very serious matter.

“This could be misused against minorities,” he told Morning Star News. “We must safeguard ourselves by approaching the Minority Commission if discrepancy is noticed in any individual case. The commission is established to make sure that such laws are not abused.”

Passed v. Enforced

Anti-conversion laws are currently in force in Odisha (formerly Orissa), Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand and now Uttarakhand. Arunachal Pradesh passed legislation but has not framed corresponding rules, and a bill passed in Rajasthan was not signed by the then-governor of the state.

The Gujarat, Jharkhand and now Uttarakhand laws necessitate prior permission in order to convert while the other six laws require notification.

Uttarakhand is the tenth state to pass anti-conversion legislation and the seventh since 2000. Orissa (now Odisha), Madhya Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, and Jharkhand have passed similar laws, with Tamil Nadu passing a law in 2002 and repealing it in 2004.

Though attempts to enact anti-conversion laws happened even before India’s independence in 1947, Orissa (now Odisha) was the first state to enact an anti-conversion law in 1967, ironically titling it a “Freedom of Religion” law.

Uttarakhand’s BJP-ruled government, led by Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat, completed one year in power on March 18. Rawat is a known RSS worker who has worked his way up the organization, serving as the Organizing Secretary for the RSS in the Uttarakhand region, and later the state before he entered politics through the BJP in 2002.

The hostile tone of the National Democratic Alliance government, led by the Hindu nationalist BJP, against non-Hindus, has emboldened Hindu extremists in several parts of the country to attack Christians since Prime Minister Narendra Modi took power in May 2014, religious rights advocates say.

India ranked 11th on Christian support organization Open Doors’ 2018 World Watch List of countries where Christians experience the most persecution.

Muslim Extremists Murder 39 Christians in Benue State, Nigeria

Still shocked over a deadly attack on a Catholic congregation on Tuesday (April 24), Christians in Nigeria’s Benue state yesterday suffered another onslaught by Muslim Fulani herdsmen that reportedly left at least 39 people dead.

More than 160 houses also were reported to have been set ablaze in heavily armed attacks that began late Tuesday night in the Guma area on predominantly Christian Tse-Umenge, Mbakpase and Tse-Ali villages. Dozens of Christians were wounded, and at this writing the total number of those killed was not confirmed.

The area is about 65 kilometers (40 miles) from the Gwer East area attacks that took place the day before.

A resident of Mbakpase, Alice Terwase, told Morning Star News that the herdsmen who invaded her community were dressed in military camouflage and armed with AK-47 weapons.

“The herdsmen destroyed more than 60 houses in our village, and three members of my community were also killed during the attack,” Terwase said by phone. “At Tse-Ali village, more than 70 houses were set ablaze and 21 Christians killed. All affected victims are members of NKST [Universal Reformed Christian Church, or Nongu u Kristu u i Ser u sha Tar] church, and the Roman Catholic Church in the affected communities.”

John Umenge, of Tse-Umenge village, told Morning Star News that more than 50 houses were burned down by the herdsmen in his community.

“More than 15 Christians were killed and 50 houses destroyed by the herdsmen,” Umenge said. “The attacks began around 11 p.m. on Tuesday night and lasted to the early hours of today [Wednesday].”

The attacks by the herdsmen have led to protests in Makurdi, the Benue state capital.

Pastors and church leaders could not be reached for comment as Benue state is engulfed in a state of emergency.

Nigeria’s House of Representatives on Wednesday (April 25) suspended session and invited President Muhammadu Buhari to explain why the attacks have persisted.

Akpen Leva, chairman of the Benue state chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), last month said the herdsmen had destroyed 500 church buildings since 2011 with attacks that have displaced 170,000 people.

Assault on Displaced

Seven Christians among several hundred taking refuge in a church building were killed shortly after midnight last night by Muslim Fulani herdsmen, a local official said.

The attack on the displaced Christians took place at the African Church in Mbamondo village, in the Logo area of Benue state.

“The attack carried out by the herdsmen in the church premises of the African Church in Mbamondo took place at about 12:20 a.m.,” Richard Nyajo, council chairman of Logo Local Government Area told Morning Star News by phone. “Seven Christian villagers who were displaced in previous attacks and were taking refuge in the church premises were killed.”

The assailants set houses on fire and were armed with deadly weapons, he said. The wounded have been transferred to a hospital Makurdi.

Protests Planned

Christians in Nigeria plan a nationwide protest on Sunday (April 29) against attacks on Christian communities..

CAN leaders directed all churches in the country to hold peaceful protests following the attack on the Catholic church in Benue state that killed two priests and 17 parishioners. The protests also are planned to object to the continued captivity of the only Christian girl kidnapped by Boko Haram from Dapchi School, Leah Nathan Sharibu, and the remaining Christians girls abducted from a Chibok high school four years ago.

“CAN urges Christians in Nigeria to hold peaceful protests on the set aside date in the premises of their churches, asking the Federal government and the security agencies to stop the unending killings and bloodshed in the country,” the Rev. Supo Ayokunle, president of CAN, said in a statement. “Christians are to carry placards with inscriptions meant to address issues about sustained killings, attacks and destruction of their property in Nigeria.”

The government should be called upon to perform its constitutional responsibility of protecting citizens now, Ayokunle said.

“No excuse should be given for this wicked act again, and perpetrators must be brought to book now,” he said. “CAN seizes this medium to appeal to the government of President Muhammadu Buhari to mount different effective plans aimed towards disarming herdsmen across the northern states and in communities where they have been wreaking havoc across the country in national interest.”

The failure of the government to stop the killings by herdsmen is the reason they have continued to kill, he said.

“The association also calls on the heads of the security agencies to wake up to their constitutional role of protecting lives and property across the federation while preventing Nigeria from descending into chaos and a lawless country,” he said. “CAN recalls with pains, disappointments, and worries how Nigerians in the North East, Middle Belt and southern parts of Nigeria become visibly endangered with sustained attacks from Boko Haram, herders and armed bandits.”

Christians make up 51.3 percent of Nigeria’s population, while Muslims living primarily in the north and middle belt account for 45 percent.

Nigeria ranked 14th on Open Doors’ 2018 World Watch List of countries where Christians suffer the most persecution.

Given for a possession

Our Heavenly Father who is the creator of heaven and earth is just and  righteous to all His children. While I was reading the following verse, my inner eye was opened one more time towards this truth . Let me share it with you.

Deu 2:5  Do not meddle with them, for I will not give you of their land, no, not so much as a foot breadth, because I have given Mount Seir to Esau for a possession.

Jacob, even though was made master over his brother Esau (Gen 27:29), God was mindful of Esau his elder brother and his low state.  The Lord commands them, while passing through their towns,  not to disturb them. Their  father Isaac had made Esau, the elder brother serve his younger  brother Jacob (Gen 27:40). But the  heavenly Father was mindful of Esau  to give him his due. He commanded Isaac’s generations not to disturb him and not to take an inch of his land.

We see people of various culture, language, nationality, traits and culture on this earth. Each one is given their rights and dues and places of dwellings by the Heavenly Father. The rich or strong are never to exploit the poor,  the weak and the voiceless. If they do so, their creator will intervene, take up their case and render them justice. I can narrate many examples for this.

And He has made all nations of men of one blood to dwell on all the face of the earth, ordaining fore-appointed seasons and boundaries of their dwelling,  to seek the Lord, if perhaps they might feel after Him and find Him, though indeed He is not far from each one of us. Act 17:26

The place where each one of us, is stationed on planet earth, is as per God’s will. He has a purpose in  making you dwell in that particular place and giving you that particular piece of land or house to dwell.

In our lives, I can testify His mercies- When we are called to dwell in a new place,  it might be a remote place with minimum facilities in transportation, access to shops etc. But by the time the Lord asks us to leave it, it would have grown into a prosperous place with good roads, railway station, bridge, public transportation facilities, bus stop, etc. For

“Jehovah your God is with you in all places where you go”. Joshua 1:9

How awesome a God we serve! May the Lord whom we serve, make you a blessing to the place where God  chose to dwell!

Christian Woman in Pakistan Dies after Being Set on Fire

A Christian woman in Pakistan died on Sunday night (April 22) after a Muslim in the Sialkot area set her on fire for refusing to convert to Islam and marry him, relatives said. Muhammad Rizwan Gujjar poured kerosene on 25-year-old Asma Yaqoob and set her on fire on Wednesday (April 17), resulting in burns on 80 percent of her body, sources said.

She and her father, Yaqoob Masih, and her brother Maqsood were at the house where she worked as a domestic worker for Saeeduz Zaman in the Mohalla Pakpura area when the attack took place, according to a police report.

Impoverished Christian women in Pakistan are commonly pressured to marry Muslims with promises of a better life. Asma Yaqoob was the sixth of 10 children born to low-income municipal workers who retired years ago, her mother said.

“My daughter is a staunch Protestant Christian and had been resisting Gujjar’s pressure for a long time,” she said. “She was not interested in him and had repeatedly complained about his misbehavior. When all efforts failed to convince Asma to cave in to his demand, Gujjar attempted to kill her.”

Police have arrested Gujjar, and he has confessed to killing the Christian woman, attorney Riaz Anjum of the Pakistan Center for Law and Justice (PCLJ) told Morning Star News, though published reports in Pakistan cited police saying Gujjar claimed she caught fire on accident.

Christian rights activist Napolean Qayyum, also of the PCLJ, said the local Christian community was proud that Asma Yaqoob had stood her ground and refused to succumb to pressure to renounce her faith.

As an example, Qayyum said that a 13-year-old Christian girl (name withheld) was raped on April 11 by a local Muslim in the Sharaqpur area, some 25 kilometers (15 miles) from Lahore. Three young Muslim men stood guard while another identified only as Shehryar raped her, but the three alleged accomplices were not even named in the FIR, Qayyum said.

“The suspects belong to the powerful Arian community, and we believe that they are influencing the police to prevent their arrests, as none of them have been arrested till date,” he said.

The investigating officer in the case, Sub-Inspector Ijaz Khan, denied that police were showing any bias, telling Morning Star News that only Shehryar was named because he allegedly raped the girl.

“The other three men, according to the victim, did not rape her, so why name them?” he said, declining to comment on why the suspects could not be charged as facilitators, especially as the rape took place in a house belonging to one of them.

The girl’s mother, Razia (surname withheld) told Morning Star News that the accused were pressuring the family for an out-of-court “reconciliation” agreement.

“They are now pressing us to reconcile by offering us money, but we have resolved not to compromise over our daughter,” she said. “The Muslim boys have ruined the life of my daughter, and we will not rest till we get justice.”

China Pledges to Protect Religious Freedom, Days after Bible Ban

China presented an official ‘white paper’ on religion on Wednesday, 4 April, guaranteeing “protection” for religious freedom, just four days after banning the online sale of Bibles.

The policy paper, titled ‘China’s Policies and Practices on Protecting Freedom of Religious Belief’, was presented by the State Council Information Office at a press conference and followed the disbandment of the Religious Affairs Bureau.

A local source said they had not been able to find or download Bibles from a popular Amazon-like online platform and that other people had reported similar experiences on social media. Others, however, still seemed to have access to online Bibles earlier this week, the source said.

The latest developments follow the implementation of new regulations on religion in February, which some religious leaders in China said violated religious freedom.

‘ACTIVE GUIDANCE NEEDED’

According to Bernardo Cervellera, writing for AsiaNews, the ‘white paper’ signalled a shift away from the Marxist philosophy that defined religion as the “opium of the people”, defining China as a “multi-religious country since ancient times”. However, the government’s policy document added that “active guidance” was needed so religions could “adapt to socialist society”.

The ‘Sinicization’ of religion has long been a core message of President Xi Jinping. Under his rule, control of religious life has increased, causing more pressure on Christians, Muslims and Buddhists.

Catholic commentator Eric Lai said in March that the Communist Party wants “to use religion as a tool for stability” – mirroring the approaches of other authoritarian governments, such as Russia.

The government’s policy paper states that there are five recognised religions in China, with a total of 200 million believers, with Catholics and Protestants accounting for 6 million and 30 million respectively. But Cervellera says those calculations are based only on the formal, registered communities, while some estimate that there are as many Christians – both Catholics are Protestants – in unofficial, or ‘underground’, churches.

World Watch Monitor reported in October that some estimate the number of Christians in China could reach 247 million by 2030, “making it the world’s largest congregation."

A local source told World Watch Monitor the paper showed why Christianity is a sensitive subject for the Chinese government.

The source said it highlighted how “Christianity, both Catholic and Protestant, has been controlled and utilised by colonialism and imperialism for a long time, which was a shameful history of being bullied by this western religion, whereas, in the government’s eyes, this is an historic moment for Chinese believers to make an independent choice guided by the principles of ‘independence’, ‘self-control’ and ‘self-administration’, amidst the fight for social progress and independence by Chinese ethnic groups."

Uttarakhand cabinet approves draft bill to make forced religious conversions a non-bailable offence

The Uttarakhand state cabinet has approved the draft bill called ‘Dharm Swatantrata Adhiniyam’ under which forced and illegal conversions will be a non-bailable offence. The state government is aiming to curb the incidences of religious conversions by means of force, bribes or incentives and duping. Under this bill, a person, if caught with being involved in such practice will have to face a jail term from one year to five years. The minimum jail term will be two years if the victims belong to SC or ST category.

According to reports, if a person wants to convert voluntarily, he/she will have to submit an affidavit with the respective District Magistrate one month prior, in order to clarify that the conversion is voluntary and not forced.

Any conversions, if found not to have followed the above will be invalidated and considered illegal by the government. If a person wants to convert for the purpose of marriage, he/she will also have to submit the same affidavit.

The Trivendra Singh Rawat led state cabinet convened for four hours  on different issues on Monday in the state assembly. Under this bill,  even organised events for religious conversions will be illegal if not notified to the government one month prior.

The government’s decision is in line with the order of the Uttarakhand High Court in November last year when the bench headed by Justice Rajiv Sharma had suggested that the state government should formulate the Freedom of Religion Act to check the practice of religious conversion for the sole purpose of facilitating a marriage. The HC had asked the state government to legislate a law on the analogy of the Madhya Pradesh Freedom of Religion Act 1968 and the Himachal Freedom of religion act  2006.

A bench headed by Justice Rajiv Sharma had said, “It needs to be mentioned that the court has come across a number of cases where inter-religion marriages are being organised.

However, in few instances, the conversion from one religion to another religion is a sham conversion only to facilitate the process of marriage. In order to curb this tendency, the state government is expected to legislate the Freedom of Religion Act on the analogy of Madhya Pradesh Freedom of Religion Act, 1968 as well as Himachal Pradesh Freedom of Religion Act, 2006, without hurting the religious sentiments of citizens.”

Under the bill, the immediate family members of the concerned person who has been converted can register a case.`

Israel At 70: A Prophecy Fulfilled

In 1867, a young man named Samuel Langhorne Clemens set sail from New York, bound for Europe, Africa, and the Middle East.

Clemens is better known by his pen name -- Mark Twain (although in 1867, he was still an obscure journalist who had somehow convinced a California newspaper to fund this spectacular trip abroad, in exchange for regular updates from different stops on his journey).

Twain's two most famous books, about Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn, were still many years away -- and much rested on the success of his travelogue. As it turned out, the five-month cruise was a gamechanger, and the resulting book, The Innocents Abroad (1869), sold 70,000 copies in its first year, and was Twain's best-selling book during his lifetime.

The most important leg of the journey for Twain and his fellow passengers was their visit to the Holy Land, then known as Palestine -- at the time a minor outpost within the Syrian province of the Ottoman Empire. Most of the tourists on Twain's trip were devout Christians on their first pilgrimage to the land of the Bible.

Twain, who was brought up Presbyterian, was undoubtedly swept up by the excitement and anticipation of reaching the Promised Land, spurred on by his distaste for almost everywhere else he had visited along the way.

But just about every myth and expectation was dashed by the reality that Twain confronted when he arrived. "The word Palestine always brought to my mind a vague suggestion of a country as large as the United States," he began, "I do not know why, but such was the case. I suppose it was because I could not conceive of a small country having so large a history."

Unlike the grandiose palaces and churches that Twain had encountered in Europe, along with the teeming cities and towns of Turkey and Syria, the land of the Bible was not just a jarring contrast -- it was inconceivable in light of the rich history with which it was associated.

Western civilization owed itself to countless centuries of events that had occurred in this exact geographic location, and yet it was a veritable wasteland, whose inhabitants -- of all faiths and cultures -- were primitive and unsophisticated.

"Palestine sits in sackcloth and ashes," he wrote. "Over it broods the spell of a curse that has withered its fields and fettered its energies."

Twain described in vivid, unfiltered detail, the squalor and desolation that he witnessed in every place he visited across the country, and his description of Jerusalem, once the crown of Judea, is particularly disturbing: "Renowned Jerusalem itself, the stateliest name in history, has lost all its ancient grandeur, and has become a pauper village; the riches of Solomon are no longer there to compel the admiration of visiting Oriental queens; the wonderful temple which was the pride and the glory of Israel, is gone."

The state of Jerusalem's inhabitants only underscored just how much this once glorious city had sunk into decline. "It seems to me that all the races and colors and tongues of the earth must be represented among the fourteen thousand souls that dwell in Jerusalem. Rags, wretchedness, poverty and dirt ... abound."

Twain was particularly struck by how barren the country was, and how few people there were. As he traveled through the Jezreel Valley, he noted that "there is not a solitary village throughout its whole extent -- not for thirty miles in either direction ... [and] one may ride ten miles hereabouts and not see ten human beings." With hindsight, this was hardly surprising. The population of Palestine in the 1860s was 350,000; compare that to today's 8.5 million.

Twain's conclusion was that the Land of Israel was a bitter disappointment. It is "desolate and unlovely," he wrote, although "why should it be otherwise? Can the curse of the Deity beautify a land? Palestine is no more of this work-day world. It is sacred only to poetry and tradition; it is dream-land."

Twain's final analysis was that the Holy Land was a fantasy for religious dreamers looking for ghosts in a cemetery that was trapped in eternal damnation. But how wrong he was. Approximately 2,600 years ago, the prophet Ezekiel prophesized (Ez. 36:8): "But you, mountains of Israel, will produce branches and fruit for my people Israel, for they will soon come home." According to the Talmud (Sanhedrin 98a) "there is no greater sign of the redemption than the fulfillment of this verse."

The Holocaust martyr, Rabbi Yissachar Shlomo Teichtal, in his seminal work Eim Habanim Semeicha, wrote that the desolation of the Land of Israel, as witnessed by Twain, is an essential component of that prophecy, a precursor to the flourishing renewal of the land in Messianic times.

Seventy years after the creation of the State of Israel, we have all personally observed the fulfillment of that prophecy. And as we contrast the highly-developed, prosperous country with the dreadful place described by Mark Twain, and even with the struggling Israel that marked most of its formative years, let us all be acutely aware that the fulfillment of Ezekiel's prophecy was highlighted by the Talmud as the greatest sign of imminent Messianic redemption.

Knowing the times

In the month of January 2001, Sister Gracy, whose husband was working abroad called me and said,

“My husband will be coming home in the month of February (every 21 days he comes home for 3 weeks) on holidays. You should come and stay with us for three days. We will  fast and pray in  our house. The time for him has  come. He (a Roman Catholic)  has to accept the Lord our Saviour. This is the last chance the Lord is giving him”.

Even though I did not understand the meaning of it in the real sense, I did go there. We prayed together for three days.  After that her husband came on holidays and went back . In the beginning of April, one morning, her only son, studying 9th std,  phoned to us early in the morning, “Mummy expired”. The receiver of the phone fell down from Sr. Leema Rose’s hand. Gracy, who was not identified with any sickness till the previous day, died of cardiac arrest in the night. After two months of her death the father and the son, both were saved.

Moses prayed, Teach us to number our days……….” (Ps 90:12)

Gracy had the wisdom to know the times. I was in my infant stage of salvation. This incident spoke volumes to us.

Jesus knew His times perfectly well.

Jesus said to them, My time has not yet come, but your time is always ready. Jn 7:6

And He said, Go into the city, The Master said, My time is at hand. Mat  26:18

Soldiers, get the wisdom from God to know the times? For everything there is a time.(Eccl 3:1-3) Are you in perfect alignment with the plan of God ? Blessed are you if you are.

Prophecy NEWS Updates

Syria & The End Times

With all the events taking place in Syria right now, many people are asking, "What does the Bible have to say about Syria and the end times?

Is this the beginning of World War III and Armageddon?" Those are legitimate questions, but let me assure you, this is not the end. How can I be so sure?

Because the Bible says Armageddon takes place at the end of the seven year Tribulation (Revelation 16:16), and the Tribulation has yet to begin.

That said, I believe recent events in Syria have great significance when it comes to the study of bible prophecy. This doesn't mean you're guaranteed to see the immediate fulfillment of any specific bible prophecy. However, it does mean you should pay close attention.

Why? Because, at the very least, these events are setting the table for the fulfillment of multiple bible prophecies.

Just look around you. The signs of the Second Coming are everywhere. The restoration of Israel (Isaiah 11:12)... The Jews back in Jerusalem (Luke 21:24-28)... The Gospel preached to the world (Matthew 24:14)... An increase in travel and knowledge (Daniel 12:4)... The rise of the European Union (Daniel 2:43)... And many more.

Jesus says once you see all these signs come together, His return is near (Luke 21:28). This means the Tribulation is close, and you should expect to see the fulfillment of many end times prophecies in the near future.

Below are two prophetic events especially relevant to the ongoing events in Syria. The first could take place at any moment.

I believe a careful study of the Bible reveals the second event will take place sometime after the war foretold in Psalm 83.  Either way, both events could be very close to fulfillment. While both could still be several years away, breaking events could lead to their fulfillment in this very hour.

The Destruction of Damascus (Isaiah 17)

Chapter 17 in the Book of Isaiah paints a sobering picture. In it, the city of Damascus is a pile of rubble. The Bible says it will disappear from the face of the earth and become a heap of ruins (Isaiah 17:1).

At the same time, large parts of northern Israel will also lie in ruin (Isaiah 17:3). Now, before you say this prophecy was fulfilled during Old Testament times, keep this in mind... This passage says Damascus will cease to be a city (Isaiah 17:1).

It will be utterly and completely destroyed. Yet, Damascus is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities on record. Its history goes back more than 5,000 years. At 2,600 years old, the Book of Isaiah itself is new compared to Damascus! This prophecy is yet to be fulfilled.

So how do current events in Syria relate to Isaiah 17?

Following the U.S. strike on the Syrian Syrian chemical weapons facilities, a statement was issued by the Russian ambassador to the US saying: 'Again, we are being threatened. We warned that such actions will not be left without consequences.

While this statement was clearly in response to a U.S. attack, Russia, Iran & Syria have made it clear they will respond to any nation they view as an aggressor. This includes Israel and makes a much more likely target than Syria or Russia retaliating direclty against the US. Hezbollah is part of the Iran/Syria/Russian alliance and would be more than glad to launch targeted attacks into Israel with backing from these nations. While it hasn't been a major news story, Israel has also been bombing Syria. They've attacked Hezbollah targets in Syria several times over the last year and last week bombed an airbase that resulted in several Iranian Republican Guard deaths, including a Colonel.

Hassan Nasrallah, The leader of Lebanon’s Hezbollah terror group said the Israeli airstrike on an air base in central Syria that killed seven Iranians was a "historic mistake" that has brought Israel into direct conflict with Tehran. "This is unprecedented in seven years of war in Syria that Israel directly targets Iran’s Revolutionary Guard," Nasrallah said.

Israel issued it's own threats in response, with senior Israeli security officials saying that if Iran strikes at Israel from Syrian territory, "Assad's regime and Assad himself will disappear from the map."  They continued, "Our recommendation to Iran is that it does not try to act because Israel is determined to continue on this issue to the very end."

If Syria and its allies view their situation as desperate, they may decide to use these bombing raids as an excuse to launch a chemical attack on Israel.  This is because drawing Israel into the war could rally the Muslim world to Syria's side. Saddam Hussein tried this same tactic during the first Gulf War. In 1991, he fired Scud missiles at Israel in an effort to draw them into the war and break up the coalition aligned against him.

If Syria, Hezbollah, or any of their allies managed to strike Israel with a weapon of mass destruction, the response would be swift. Israel would most likely respond in kind. If their intelligence revealed the Assad regime was behind such an attack, nuclear retaliation on Damascus would not be out of the question. While this is all speculation, and not necessary how Isaiah 17 will be fulfilled, it shows how realistic a near-term fulfillment of this prophecy could be. With current instability in the region, and so many warring factions in Syria, events could spiral out of control very quickly.

At this point in time, it's not difficult to imagine a scenario in which Damascus is completely destroyed.

The Gog of Magog War (Ezekiel 38-39)

Current events in Syria are also setting the stage for the Gog of Magog War. More than 2,600 years ago, the prophet Ezekiel warned of a future time when a vast coalition of nations will attack Israel.

Ezekiel identifies these nations as "Magog, Rosh, Meschech, Tubal, Persia, Cush, Put, Gomer, and Beth-togarmah" (Ezekiel 38:1-6). These nations have since come to be known as the Gog of Magog alliance.

Now, with the exception of Persia and Cush, I realize most people have never heard of these nations.

But keep in mind Ezekiel used the names of these nations as they were known in his day. Each one is a clearly identifiable nation today. So who are these nations in our day and time? Below is a list. The Old Testament name is listed first, followed by its modern day equivalent:

Rosh = Russia

Magog = Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Afghanistan

Persia = Iran

Cush = Sudan

Put = Libya

Meshech, Tubal, Gomer, and Beth-togarmah = Turkey

Collectively, these nations have never attacked Israel. In fact, in the history of the world, such an alliance of nations has never existed.

But today we see it coming together right in front of us. Since 1989, Russia and Iran have gradually strengthened their diplomatic, military, and economic ties.

Yet, in the first 2,600 years after Ezekiel recorded his prophecies, the nations of Russia and Persia (Iran) had never been part of any alliance of any sort. Never. Cooperation between Russia and Iran, especially military cooperation, didn't take place.

This led many people to claim Ezekiel's prophecy was symbolic. Why? Because the idea of the Gog of Magog war seemed absurd. After all, at the dawn of the 20th Century, Russia was an orthodox Christian nation and Israel didn't exist!

But those who believed in a literal interpretation of the Bible knew otherwise.  They knew all prophecy would come to pass. Because bible prophecy doesn't come from mere humans. It's God's Word (2 Peter 1:19-21).

In the years since, the stage has been set for the literal fulfillment of Ezekiel 38-39. A 1917 communist revolution transformed Russia from a Christian nation to an atheist nation.

In 1948, Israel once again became a nation. And earlier this week, Russia and Iran issued a joint statement vowing to respond with force to any aggressor

And Turkey? For decades, people have wondered how Turkey could be a part of this alliance. After all, Turkey is a member of NATO. And in late 2015, Turkey shot down a Russian jet when it strayed into Turkish airspace. Russia and Turkey seem to be at odds.

So how could Turkey be a part of this alliance? At first glance, it seems unlikely. But in the summer of 2016, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan jailed thousands of political opponents. And recently, Turkey voted to eliminate its parliamentary form of government and give expanded powers to Erdogan.

Ultimately, this could be what pushes Turkey into the Russian sphere of influence. Erdogan is an anti-Western, pro-Islamist leader, and he's worked hard to strengthen Turkey's ties with Russia. He has had several heated exchanges with Israel's Netanyahu in the press and has shown support for the Hamas uprising along the border in Gaza.  Turkey has clearly shifted from friend to foe over the past decade and presents a direct threat to Israel having one of the largest militaries in the region.

In light of these developments, we can see the Gog of Magog alliance coming together for the first time in history.

For the first time since Israel re-emerged on the world scene in May 1948, the main players of the Ezekiel 38-39 alliance are all working together.

Even more important, they all have military personnel close to Israel's border. The stage is set for the fulfillment of Ezekiel 38-39.

What Will Ultimately Happen?

While terrible destruction awaits Damascus (Isaiah 17:1), northern Israel (Isaiah 17:3), and the entire Gog of Magog Alliance (Ezekiel 38:19-22), we have reason to be hopeful.

Because of these events, the Bible says people will soon look to and acknowledge their Creator - the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob (Isaiah 17:7).

When He strikes down Israel's enemies, the whole world will know He is the God Israel (Ezekiel 38:23).

In the days and weeks ahead, we can't be certain what will happen in Syria. But in the long run, we can be absolutely certain the events of Isaiah 17 and Ezekiel 38-39 will be fulfilled.

Damascus will lie in ruin, and the Gog of Magog Alliance will be destroyed. These events are certain.

Because whatever He has declared, God will bring to pass (Isaiah 14:24). And when these things happen, the world will no longer be able to deny Him. He will destroy the enemies of Israel in plain view of the entire world.

"In this way," says the Lord. "I will show my greatness and holiness, and I will make myself known to all the nations of the world. Then they will know that I am the Lord." Ezekiel 38:23 (NLT)

Persecution is Rising in India, but Christianity  Standing Strong

It's more dangerous now than ever before to be a Christian in India.

Open Doors has officially released its 2018 World Watch List, and India ranks number 11 out of the top 50 countries where Christian persecution is at its worst.

"Persecution of Christians is rising in India. More than ever before, the growth of radical Hinduism in the nation is fueling violent attacks, with even greater impunity for attackers as the government sides with radical groups," the organization wrote in its report.

Pastor Joseph D'Souza, who works tirelessly for human rights in India told CBN News Hindu extremists are spreading dangerous propaganda against Christians in the country.

"The propaganda that continues to go on which is absolutely not correct that Christians are involved in false and forced conversions. Nothing of that sort is happening," he explained.

"The propaganda that somehow Christians are working against India, against the interests of India by trying to be Christians, is propelling this. And a lack of control of these groups that seem to commit crimes and attack minorities with impunity," he continued.

D'Souza said radical Hindu extremists aren't just targeting India's Christians, but anyone who does not adhere to their ideology.

"It's not just related to the Christians. It's also related to the Muslims, Dalits, and now also Hindus," he said.

The situation is especially hard for Dalits -- people who rank the lowest in India's caste system and are considered "untouchable."

"India cannot continue with a caste system," D'Souza said. "While many Dalits have found freedom and dignity through Christian work and education and spiritual work, the problem is not over."

Despite the growing persecution of Muslims, Dalits, Hindus, and Christians, D'Souza said God is still at work in India.

"Persecution has never stopped the growth of the church. In fact, when we are attacked, when we are persecuted, we become stronger," he said. "They're standing strong and they're not recounting."

Pastor Murdered, Church Burned, Anti-Christian Violence on Upswing in India

India may be the world's largest democracy, but the government often falls short when it comes to protecting Christians and other minorities from attack by militant Hindus.

In 2017, Christians experienced almost as many attacks against them during the first half of the year than during all of 2016. So far this year, there are  no signs that the religious intolerance and persecution is letting up.

Just within this past week, two major incidents occurred: one in Tamil Nadu state, and another in Jammu Kashmir.

Last Saturday, parishoners of Maknayeem Church near Kalpakkam, Tamil Nadu attempted to enter their church for a prayer and fasting meeting. When they arrived, they discovered the church gate was locked.
After unlocking the gate, they entered the church and found 43-year old Pastor Gideon Perisyaswamy hanging form the rafters of the church.

According to Wilson Chowdhry of the British Asian Christian Association, when police arrived on the scene they appeared "whimsical" and failed to initiate an investigation of the crime scene. Instead, they labeled the pastor's death a suicide.

Chowdhry says the church members suspected foul play because a gold ring was missing from the pastor's finger and there were signs of welts, bruising and torture on Pastor Gideon's body.

"This was a particularly special day in which a large number of the church were about to attend for prayer an fasting. It would seem very unusual for a man to commit suicide before that without leaving a note," he said.

According to Chowdhry, the church and pastor had received several death threats from militant Hindus who were angry about the church evangelizing and converting Hindus to Christianity. Pastor Gideon had reported the threats to local police.

On January 16, 2018 in Jammu Kashmir, a Hindu mob burned Sehal Christ Church of Seri Panchayat. Several Christian businesses were also set ablaze.

Chowdhry says the militants were upset because a former Hindu was given a Christian burial.

The woman, Seema Devi had converted to Christianity before she became ill and died. Her parents wanted her body to be cremated which is the Hindu custom, but her husband wanted the Christian ceremony because his wife was Christian.

The parents accused Rinku Kumar of murdering his wife Seema, but Chowdhry says Kumar actually prayed regularly for her healing.

Many Christians from Sehal Christ Church have fled into the woods because Hindus are forcibly re-converting many of them to Hinduism. Chowdhry says his organization has helped the pastor find refuge in a safe house about 200 miles away from the village.

Pro  28:24   The spirit which makes one  rob  his father or  mother

Message for reflection – Sr.Angelica

I was addressing a meeting of about 20 people. The meeting was arranged for raising leaders. People who were invited did not turn up. But many new people were there. While they were introducing each other, the Holy Spirit moved in me and said, “Change the topic”.  I was wondering what topic I should take.  While I started with one verse, the Spirit in me took over. In between one brother intervened with a question. As I was trying to answer, the Holy Spirit in a flow put words in my mouth and it was a new experience for me.

The next day the organizer of the meeting testified that the answer for the question and the continued narration was a wonderful explanation for his own doubts and many of the participants. Glory be to God!

Gift of Knowledge is a gift of the Holy Spirit. He makes us understand the spirit which is moving in  others around you.

“And instantly knowing in His spirit that they reasoned so within themselves, He said to them, Why do you reason these things in your heart?” Mk 2:8

Without receiving  the gifts of the Holy Spirit, effective evangelization cannot take place. India is going through a critical situation. The country is going through a  tough spiritual warfare. The Church in India today should  receive from the Holy Spirit the wisdom and  knowledge regarding the strategies,  operation methods etc.

May our leaders and believers themselves be guided by the Holy Spirit.

The Cashless Society Cometh: European Nations Eliminating Cash

Did you know that 95 percent of all retail sales in Sweden are cashless?  And did you know that the government of Denmark has a stated goal of "eradicating cash" by the year 2030?

All over the world, we are seeing a relentless march toward a cashless society, and nowhere is this more true than in northern Europe.   In Sweden, hundreds of bank branches no longer accept or dispense cash, and thousands of ATM machines have been permanently removed.  At this point, bills and coins only account for just 2 percent of the Swedish economy, and many stores no longer take cash at all.  The notion of a truly "cashless society" was once considered to be science fiction, but now we are being told that it is "inevitable", and authorities insist that it will enable them to thwart criminals, terrorists, drug runners, money launderers and tax evaders.

But what will we give up in the process?

In Sweden, the transition to a cashless society is being enthusiastically embraced.  The following is an excerpt from a New York Times article that was published on Saturday..

Parishioners text tithes to their churches. Homeless street vendors carry mobile credit-card readers. Even the Abba Museum, despite being a shrine to the 1970s pop group that wrote "Money, Money, Money," considers cash so last-century that it does not accept bills and coins.

Few places are tilting toward a cashless future as quickly as Sweden, which has become hooked on the convenience of paying by app and plastic.

To me, giving money in church electronically seems so bizarre.  But it is starting to happen here in the United States, and in Sweden some churches collect most of their tithes and offerings this way..

During a recent Sunday service, the churchs bank account number was projected onto a large screen. Worshipers pulled out cellphones and tithed through an app called Swish, a payment system set up by Swedens biggest banks that is fast becoming a rival to cards.

Other congregants lined up at a special "Kollektomat" card machine, where they could transfer funds to various church operations. Last year, out of 20 million kronor in tithes collected, more than 85 percent came in by card or digital payment.

And of course it isnt just Sweden that is rapidly transitioning to a cashless society.  Over in Denmark, government officials have a goal to completely do away with paper moneyby the year 2030.. Sweden is not the only country interested in eradicating cash. Its neighbor, Denmark, is also making great strides to lessen the circulation of banknotes in the country.

Two decades ago, roughly 80 percent of Danish citizens relied on hard cash while shopping. Fast forward to today, that figure has dropped dramatically to 25 percent.

"Were interested in getting rid of cash," said Matas IT Director Thomas Grane. "The handling, security and everything else is expensive; so, definitely we want to push digital payments, and thats of course why we introduced mobile payments to help this process."

Eventually, establishments may soon have the right to reject cash- a practice that is common in Sweden. Government officials have set a 2030 deadline to completely do away with paper money. Could you imagine a world where you couldn't use cash for anything?

This is the direction things are going especially in Europe.

As I have written about previously, cash transactions of more than 2,500 euros have already been banned in Spain, and France and Italy have both banned all cash transactions of more than 1,000 euros. Little by little, cash is being eradicated, and what we have seen so far is just the beginning.  417 billion cashless transactions were conducted in 2014, and the final number for 2015 is projected to be much higher.

Banks like this change, because it enables them to make more money due to the fees that they collect from credit cards and debit cards. And governments like this change because electronic payments enable them to watch, track and monitor what we are all doing much more easily.

These days, very rarely does anyone object to what is happening.  Instead, most of us just seem to accept that this change is "inevitable", and we are being assured that it will be for the better.  And no matter where in the world you go, the propaganda seems to be the same.  For example, the following comes from an Australian news source..

AND so we prepare to turn the page to fresh year 2016, a watershed year in which Australia will accelerate towards becoming a genuine cashless society. The cashless society will be a new world free of $1 and $2 coins, or $5 or $10 bank notes.

A new world in which all commercial transactions, from buying an i-pad or a hamburger to playing the poker machines, purchasing a newspaper, paying household bills or picking up the dry-cleaning, will be paid for electronically. And in that same article the readers are told that Australia will likely be "a fully cashless society" by 2022..

Research by Westpac Bank predicts Australia will be a fully cashless society by 2022 just six years away. Already half of all commercial payments are now made electronically.

Even in some of the poorest areas on the entire globe we are seeing a move toward a cashless society.  In 2015, banks in India made major progress on this front, and income tax rebates are being considered by the government as an incentive "to encourage people to move away from cash transactions". Would a truly cashless society reduce crime and make all of our lives much more efficient?

Maybe. But what would we have to give up?

To me, America is supposed to be a place where we can go where we want and do what we want without the government constantly monitoring us.  If people choose to use cashless forms of payment that is one thing, but if we are all required to go to such a system I fear that it could result in the loss of tremendous amounts of freedom and liberty.

And it is all too easy to imagine a world where a government-sponsored form of "identification" would be required to use any form of electronic payment.  This would give the government complete control over who could use "the system" and who could not.  The potential for various forms of coercion and tyranny in such a scenario is obvious. What would you do if you could not buy, sell, get a job or open a bank account without proper "identification" someday?

What you simply give in to whatever the government was demanding of you at the time even if it went against your fundamental beliefs? That is certainly something to think about.

Many will cheer as the world makes a rapid transition to a cashless society, but I will not.  I believe that a truly cashless system would open the door for great evil, and I dont want any part of it.

What about you? Would you welcome a cashless society?

Five Years on, Central African Republic Crisis Deepens

A UN spokesperson has called for a new approach to end the still-deepening crisis in the Central African Republic.

The situation in CAR has been deteriorating for five years now, and in the next six months may grow even worse, according to the head of the UN’s Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in CAR, Joseph Inganji.

Speaking to World Watch Monitor last week, Inganji called on “all actors to sit around the table to have a shared analysis and joint planning, in order to cut the vicious cycle of violence, and respond according to each other and everyone’s mandate”.

CAR fell into chaos on 24 March 2013 when a predominantly Muslim coalition of rebels, known as Séléka, ousted President François Bozizé and took power.

Six months later, in September 2013, Séléka’s leader, Michel Djotodia, who had proclaimed himself president, disbanded the group and in January 2014 resigned as president, to be replaced by Catherine Samba-Panza.

“Since 2013, children are no longer going to school in some regions,” he said. “Which kind of future are we preparing for this country with a whole generation sacrificed?”

Meanwhile, Imam Omar Kobine Layama, the president of the Islamic Conference in CAR, said “all our efforts remain vain because of the lack of security”.

The imam called on the reinforcement of the state, notably the national army, to accompany the UN peacekeepers already deployed in the country.

Finally the representative of CAR’s Evangelical Alliance, François Ndeckere Nzogbia, welcomed the contribution of the international community towards the resolution of the crisis in CAR, but said more needs to be done:

“We need to be supported strongly in order to stop the acts of these warlords and criminals, who continue to kill central Africans on a daily basis. But unfortunately the echo is not raised loud enough to enable the world to know that somewhere in that world, men and women continue to be killed cowardly.”

The Geneva briefing was organised jointly by the World Evangelical Alliance and the Catholic charity Caritas International.

It was also attended by various key stakeholders, including the UN Independent Expert on the situation of human rights in the Central African Republic, Marie-Thérèse Keita Bocoum, who stressed the key role of the religious leaders:

“I want to insist on the importance of interreligious dialogue, which will enable each locality of CAR to move forward to listening, forgiveness and reconciliation.”

5 Countries Where Christians Celebrated Easter Despite Persecution

Easter this year was a time of mixed emotions for the Christians who live under pressure for their faith. While political and religious leaders called for peace, reconciliation and brotherhood, Christians in countries like Syria and the Philippines continued to face violence and its consequences.

Below, World Watch Monitor gives a snapshot of what Easter 2018 looked like in some of the countries where it is most difficult to be a Christian.

1. SYRIA

In war-torn Syria, the Catholic community in the city of Aleppo celebrated Holy Week with a mixture of hope and scepticism, Bishop Georges Abou Khazen told AsiaNews. The Apostolic Vicar of the Catholic Church said: “We have experienced death and destruction but at the same time we have lived great testimonies of love and solidarity. The war continues and new victims die every day, an exaggerated number of deaths. People continue to flee from the country. Faced with all this suffering we cannot remain deaf and impassive; even after eight years we cannot resign ourselves to the logic of violence and war.”

2. PHILIPPINES

In the Philippines, 7,000 of Marawi’s 400,000 displaced citizens were able to visit their homes on Easter Sunday for the first time since the Philippine army liberated the city, which is on the southern island of Mindanao, from Islamist militants in October.

It followed a day of protests on Good Friday when, according to Catholic news site UCAN, thousands gathered to demand the opportunity to visit and pray in their devastated city. The protestors also claimed displaced residents had been mistreated by the government.

3. INDONESIA

People in Indonesia defied fears of growing Islamist extremism when Muslims joined Christians in celebrating Holy Week. Following dance performances by dozens of young Muslims during a procession on Good Friday in Ambon, capital of the south-eastern Maluku Province, Bishop Canisius Mandagi told the UCAN: “This is an example of where religion becomes a unifying tool and this religious celebration becomes a bridge to strengthening relations”.

Meanwhile Jakarta’s Catholic Archbishop Ignatius Suharyo Hardjoatmodjo toldChristians they “should go out and mingle with people from different backgrounds. This is a very important thing to do right now”. In his Easter message he also challenged the “money, power and prestige” that, he said, have become “serious challenges to national unity in Indonesia”, as “money is spent to gain power through bribery and corruption."

4. VIETNAM

For Catholics in the mountainous north-western part of Vietnam, Holy Week was marked by the first ever visit by a bishop since Catholic communities were established in the area over a century ago, reported UCAN. Bishop John Mary Vu Tat of Hung Hoa, in Hanoi, travelled 160km north-west to Yen Bai Province, where he visited nine parishes, sub-parishes and mission stations.

He baptised and administered Confirmation to members of the ethnic minority Hmong people group during an Easter Mass at Vinh Quang Church, which was attended by 2,000 people. A Paris-based Vietnamese human rights group recently expressed concern about an increase of attacks against religious minorities, like the Hmong Christians, in the Southeast Asian country.

5. ISRAEL

In Israel, 13 church leaders in Jerusalem issued a joint Easter message on Good Friday as violence erupted between Palestinians and Israeli security forces along the Israeli-Gaza border. “We pray to almighty God that people who are walking in the way of the cross may find it the way of hope, peace, and life,” they said.

The Church of the Holy Sepulchre, Christianity’s holiest site, was visited by hundreds of pilgrims on Easter Sunday. This following its closure in Februarywhen churches protested against the municipality’s plan to end the tax-exempt status with regards to commercial properties the churches hold.

Iraqi Christian Woman is Reunited with Father after 3 Years in ISIS' Captivity

An Iraqi Christian woman who was kidnapped by ISIS in 2014, raped and sold as a sex slave, has been reunited with her father.

Rita Habib called the emotional reunion a “dream,” as there were many times during her captivity when she never expected to see her father again.

“I am very happy that after three years I reunited with my father. It is a joyous moment because he is the only family I have left," Habib said.

The Christian Post reports that Islamic extremists overran Habib’s hometown of Qaraqosh, southeast of Mosul, three years ago. Thousands of people were killed and hundreds of woman, including Habib, were taken captive.

Habib was held captive in Mosul for several months before being sold as a sex slave to Syria.

She recounted some of the horrors she saw and experienced while in ISIS’ captivity:

"I was bought and sold four times. They did evil things to us. They beat us and raped us. The worst of all was girls aged nine who were raped. Girls would be sold for 4,000 to 15,000 dollars."

Habib was rescued several months ago as ISIS' stronghold in the region began crumbling. Now that she is back home and reunited with her father, she says she wants to begin rebuilding her life and community. She also hopes to help other women who were kidnapped.
