Message for reflection – Sr. Angelica AOJ

CREATIVITY AND INNOVATION

What is creativity?

Creativity means thinking outside the box. It means viewing things in a new way or from different perspectives and then converting these ideas into reality.

Creativity involves two parts: thinking and producing. Simply having an idea makes you imaginative, not Creative. However, having an idea and acting on it makes you creative.

Characteristics of Highly Creative People:

Some characteristics of creative people are

  1. They are imaginative and playful
  2. They see issues from different angles
  3. They notice small details
  4. They are very curious.

What is Innovation:

There are many different definitions of innovation. In simple terms, innovation means turning an idea into a solution that adds value. It can also mean adding value by implementing a new product, service or process, or significantly improving on an existing product, service or process.

Characteristics of Highly Innovative People:

  • They embrace doing things differently
  • They do not believe in shortcuts
  • They are not afraid to be unconventional’
  • They are highly proactive and persistent
  • They are organized, cautious and risk-averse

BFF (BE FORMED AND FORM)

For though by this time you ought to be teachers,

you need someone to teach you again

the basic principles of the oracles of God.

You need milk, not solid food,

for everyone who lives on milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, since he is a child.

But solid food is for the mature,

for those who have their powers of discernment trained

by constant practice to distinguish good from evil.

FELLOWSHIP MEETING

SMP ACTIVITIES

TUTICORIN CONSTITUENCY - ACTIVITIES

  • Every morning, we provide breakfast for the mentally disabled and old persons.
  • We are going to the village people to preach about God four times a week.
  • Weekly twice we visit government hospitals and pray for the sick.
  • Every Sunday and Saturday classes are taken for children.
  • 250 New Testaments and nearly 50 full Bibles are distributed.
  • Two troop churches are going on.Testimony

We met a family when we were going for the village ministry. They had a debt. They had to borrow from the group for whatever they did. They had to pawn their jewellery. This was how their problem continued. We told them the truth about the miracle of forgiveness and told them that it is wrong to borrow anymore but look upon God.  Accordingly, they accepted the truth and confessed, and they testified that God helped their children to build peace without taking a loan. They testified that God helped them with grace.

    Praise the Lord!

DAVID SCHOOL OF WORSHIP

As a deer pants for flowing streams,
so pants my soul for you, O God.
My soul thirsts for God,
for the living God.
When shall I come and appear before God?
My tears have been my food
day and night,
while they say to me all the day long,
“Where is your God?”
These things I remember,
as I pour out my soul:
how I would go with the throng
and lead them in procession to the house of God
with glad shouts and songs of praise,
a multitude keeping festival.

Why are you cast down, O my soul,
and why are you in turmoil within me?
Hope in God; for I shall again praise him,
my salvation.

FRP LEVEL (Forgiveness and Reconciliation Programme)

NO MAN CAN SERVE TWO MASTERS

What about "He that is within is us greater than he that is in the world." Without a doubt, the Holy Spirit is greater. This is not the question. The Holy Spirit can be "quenched" by the believer and the Holy Spirit can be "grieved" ... the power of the Holy Spirit in our life is dependent upon us. We can walk "in the Spirit" or walk in the flesh. That is our choice. No man can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and cling to the other or...you see there can be two masters but the believer constantly must choose which he will serve. We can only serve one master...at a time. Certainly, some experience yielding to a different master than Jesus, on occasions.

Demons cannot "possess" a believer for possession implies ownership and we are bought with a price...we are the ownership of Jesus Christ. But that does not mean that we cannot give control of areas of our lives to demons by the choices we make. They can possess areas of our life. Dr. Charles Stanley says, "A Christian cannot be possessed by demons." Invasion into the life of a believer is certainly possible and probably more common than we will ever know.

When a Christian opens their life to demons, the evil spirits dwell in the flesh and soul, not in the spirit. The spirit of man is where the Holy Spirit dwells. Compare the tabernacle or temple of the Old Testament with the tabernacle of man. Man is a trinity of body, soul and spirit. We are a spirit that has a soul that lives in a body. The body and the flesh could be compared to the courtyard of the Tabernacle, the soul to the holy place and the spirit to the holy of holies.

Perhaps it will help you to understand and receive the truth if you can see the comparison. As long as you remain blind to the truth you will be subject to deception and control. It is difficult to combat an enemy you don't know you have. If you search scripture with the Holy Spirit's guidance you will see the truth and once you do you can help to liberate others. If the scripture was not clear enough on this, I would have to believe it anyway after experiencing thousands of believers being delivered of demons! One of the foremost Southern Baptist preachers in America recently was delivered of demons.

HOSPITALITY GIFT SCHOOL

SHELTER IS GIVEN TO A LEVITE

Judges 19:1-4. In those days Israel had no king. Now a Levite who lived in a remote area in the hill country of Ephraim took a concubine from Bethlehem in Judah. But she was unfaithful to him. She left him and returned to her parents’ home in Bethlehem, Judah. After she had been there four months, her husband went to her to persuade her to return. He had with him his servant and two donkeys. She took him into her parents’ home, and when her father saw him, he gladly welcomed him. His father-in-law, the woman’s father, prevailed on him to stay; so he remained with him three days, eating and drinking, and sleeping there. Judges 19:20-21 “You are welcome at my house,” the old man said. “Let me supply whatever you need. Only don’t spend the night in the square.” So he took him into his house and fed his donkeys. After they had washed their feet, they had something to eat and drink

PROPHECY NEWS

DICTATORSHIP IN INDIA IS INEVITABLE IF PM MODI IS RE-ELECTED, ASSERTS KHARGE

The alliance would not be weakened by the departure of one or two individuals whereas it will emerge stronger, he said addressing a Congress workers convention.

The forthcoming general election is going to be the last in India if Prime Minister Narendra Modi is re-elected, said Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge in Bhubaneswar on January 29.

“Whether you acknowledge it or not, one of our leaders from INDIA departed yesterday. He was taken away from us. The current government’s modus operandi involves serving notices to leaders one after another, instilling terror, and issuing threats. Individuals are abandoning friendships, alliances, and parties out of fear. The question arises: Can the country, democracy, or constitution survive if so, many cowards persist?” he asked.

“This is the last opportunity for people to cast their votes decisively. Following this, no further voting will be possible as there will be no more elections. Elections will be held akin to the election of Russian President Vlaldimir Putin. They will run the government based on accumulated authority and keep returning to power. They will get 200 seats, 300 and 400. They will even increase the number of seats beyond 600,” said the Congress chief.

“It is people’s responsibility to safeguard the Constitution and democracy and ensure that elections are held recurrently. The survival of democracy is in the hands of the people. If you desire it, the democracy will stay on. However, if you choose to remain subservient, that is a decision is up to you,” he told Congress workers.

“Former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi had sacrificed their lives for people while Mr Modi is taking lives. If a political leader does not listen to him (Mr Modi), he unleashes CBI, Income Tax and ED on him. He is running the government by this terror mechanism,” the veteran leader said.

Mr. Kharge remarked, “We administered the government with love, embracing each other. Progress in education, health, industry, and the establishment of various visible institutions today can be credited to the contributions of Congress. The present government seems to derive pleasure from causing discord and conflict among the people.”

On Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar leaving the INDIA alliance, he said, “Some individuals commented that the alliance suffered a setback with the departure of one person. Does the country weaken when one person exits? No. Likewise, the alliance would not be weakened by the departure of one or two individuals. We will emerge even stronger.”

The Congress president came down heavily on the BJD Government saying, “Former Chief Minister Biju Patnaik was close to former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. He was following the ideology of Nehru. He was Patnaik of the past. But, today’s Patnaik (Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik) is adhering to the ideology of BJP.”

He alleged that BJP and BJD had long been in an undeclared alliance aimed at looting money by selling mineral resources.

HALF OF URBAN LOCAL BODIES FACING WATER SHORTAGE IN ANDHRA PRADESH

Seven towns are facing an acute shortage and drinking water is being supplied once in three days here

More than half of the urban local bodies in Andhra Pradesh have been facing water scarcity during the ongoing summer, and at least seven municipalities are facing an acute shortage.

Drinking water is being supplied once in three days in Kadpaa, Palamaner, Penugonda, Podili, Hindupur, Ongole and Pedana, and that such a situation arose in March itself indicates the severity of the problem.

At a review meeting on water scarcity and implementation of contingency plans in the State, chaired by Chief Secretary K.S. Jawahar Reddy, Lathkar Shrikesh Balajirao, Commissioner & Director, Municipal Administration (CDMA), said, “There will be no water problem for 60 Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) in the summer, while available reserves will last till April 15 for two ULBs, up to April 30 for 16 ULBs, up to May 31 for 25 ULBs, and up to June 30 for 20 ULBs.”

Supply through tankers

Out of the 123 Urban Local Bodies, the government is able to supply drinking water twice a day in 29 ULBs, once a day in 52, once in a couple of days in 35, and once in three days in seven. The ULBs have been supplying drinking water through tankers wherever necessary in the municipalities and corporations, he added.

Shashi Bhushan Kumar, Principal Secretary, Panchayat Raj and Rural Development, said that Collectors of 17 districts were informed about water problems in their recent reports. In comparison, there was no serious problem in the remaining nine districts.

The Collectors have proposed to supply drinking water through tankers to the residents in 388 drought mandals and 492 other mandals. The process will start soon in 109 mandals out of them.

Mr Jawahar Reddy instructed the officials concerned to ensure that every hamlet, village and ULB gets sufficient drinking water. He instructed the officials to create awareness among the public on the judicious use of water.

The ULBs getting drinking water once in a couple of days are Adoni, Bapatla, Bethamcharla, Bobbili, Budwel, Chilakaluripet, Chittoor, Darsi, Dharmavaram, Dhone, Giddalur, Gooty, Gudur (Kurnool), Guntakal, Kadiri, Kamalapuram, Kuppam, Macherla, Machilipatnam, Madanapalle, Markapur, Nandigama, Nandyal, Nuzvid, Palasa-Kasibugga, Punganur, Puttur, Rayachoti, Rayadurg, Sattenapalli, Tadipatri, Tirupati, Tiruvuru, Vizianagaram and Yerranguntla.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS

Communication has an important role in every aspect of your life, be it personal or professional. Being able to communicate well can boost your overall performance, and help you build a great understanding with your colleagues.

Communication is being able to clearly state one’s thoughts or message to another person. Communication is the process by which people exchange information and feelings through verbal and non-verbal messages.

The act of communication requires skills such as speaking, listening, observing, questioning, processing, analysing and evaluating.

In simple words, effective communication happens when we can make the other person think what we are thinking.

ASPECTS OF COMMUNICATION: The two aspects of communication are

  1. Verbal
  2. Non-verbal

Verbal Communication: It is the communication that uses words either written or spoken to convey a message, express a desire or communicate ideas between two or more people. It is the direct exchange of words being spoken between the sender and the receiver. Verbal communication can be used to inform, inquire and discuss topics of all kinds, it is vital to teaching and learning as well as forming bonds and building relationships with other people.

Difference between Listening and Hearing:

Listening is an active process. It means being alert, making an effort and giving; attention to what is being spoken or said. We listen to obtain information, to understand and to learn.

Hearing refers to the sounds that you hear. It is a passive process. It means just perceiving sounds.

Listening is with the mind whereas hearing is with the physical senses. Listening is very important in communication. When you listen, you understand the other person.

Challenges of Verbal Communication:

Misunderstands can arise because of poor word choice, differing perspectives and faulty communication techniques.

Language barriers are a major cause of confusion when attempting to communicate verbally.

Fluency (flow of words when speaking) Accent (Peculiar way of speaking depending on the region or geographic area they come from)

Non-verbal Communication:

“What you do speaks so loud that I cannot hear what you say!”

The most important thing in Communication is hearing what isn’t said or reading between the lines. People believe what they see. Actions speak louder than words.

Non-verbal communication describes the process of conveying a message without the use of words.

Eg Body language, gestures, facial expressions.

Body Language: What our bodies are doing while we are talking, plays a major role in our communication than we might think. Body language is the clue given to others by our body. While we are communicating. It not only refers to movements in one’s body but also to small gestures or facial expressions that we make while communicating with others. Body language must be the same as our words, otherwise your receiver will be confused. Positive body language supports spoken words and makes sure that the message is understood correctly. It is not only important what we say but also how we say it.

  1. Handshake: A firm handshake conveys trust and confidence while a loose handshake conveys the opposite.
  2. Eye contact helps create interaction and rapport with your listeners. Avoid staring. It may be intimidating and controlling and will make the other person very uncomfortable.
  3. Hands and legs position: Folded hands and crossed legs indicate a closed body and a closed attitude. Free hands and an open body indicate an open attitude. You are free to talk and express yourself to such a person.
  4. Distance between the listener and the speaker: Aim to keep your body language open and relaxed at all times.
  5. Gestures: This means the movement of a part of your body to express an idea or meaning. Be aware of denial gestures you may use. Eg. Touching the face, rubbing the nose, scratching the head, gripping an arm with the other hand or fiddling with clothes, hair or pens.
  6. Facial Expressions: Smile and use eye contact. It's the most positive signal you can give.

TELANGANA STARES AT DROUGHT-LIKE CRISIS, POWER DEMAND PEAKS

An official release from the chief minister’s office (CMO) said the demand for power peaked at 298.19 million units on Wednesday, the highest this year and the state power distribution companies (Discoms) were able to meet the requirement

As severe power and drinking water shortage is staring at Telangana, the state government has asked the farming community to brace up for a drought-like situation this summer due to deficit rainfall.

the power demand peaked at 298.19 million units on Wednesday, the highest this year and the state power distribution companies (Discoms) were able to meet the requirement.

“It was a new record in electricity supply. The northern and southern Discoms registered the highest-ever supply of 298.19 million units of power on a single day on Wednesday. This surpassed the previous record of 297.89 million units of power supplied on March 14 last year,” an official release said.

A senior official in Telangana Power Transmission Corporation (TS Transco) said the high power demand was mainly on account of peak agricultural operations during the ongoing Rabi season and also increasing demand from domestic consumers due to rising temperatures.

“The power supply companies have already made elaborate arrangements to meet the increasing power demand during February and March. But the hard days are ahead in the next two months,” the official said.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy indicated the possibility of drought in the coming days. “A drought-like situation is prevailing in the state at present. Due to deficit rainfall this year, water levels in the reservoirs are depleted and hence a severe water crisis is looming large in the state,” the chief minister said, while launching a ‘Rythu Nestham’ (friend of farmer) programme through video conference from his residence on Wednesday.

Revanth Reddy said that farmers and political leaders of Karimnagar, Khammam, Nalgonda and Mahabubnagar districts were demanding release of water from the irrigation reservoirs. He appealed to all the farmers to understand the present situation but assured that the state government would extend support to the farmers in the difficult drought conditions.

He said the state government was already making required arrangements to solve the drinking water crisis in the ensuing summer amid the water crisis.

According to the official figures available till 4 pm on Thursday, the water availability in all major reservoirs that provide irrigation to Telangana and drinking water supply to Hyderabad is at alarming level.

In five major reservoirs of Osman Sagar, Himayat Sagar, Singur, Manjira and Akkampally reservoirs in Krishna and Godavari basin that supply drinking water to Hyderabad, the total water availability is 27.508 tmc (thousand million cubic feet) as against the full tank level capacity of 39.783 tmc. This day last year, the water availability in these reservoirs was 29.712 tmc.

In Nagarjunasagar reservoir, which is the major source of irrigation in Krishna basin, the present water level is 514.90 ft, as against the FRL of 590 ft; and the water availability is 140 tmc as against total capacity of 312.04 tmc. Last year, the water availability in Nagarjunasagar reservoir on this day was 195 tmc.

In Srisailam, the present water level is 813.2 feet, as against the FRL of 885 ft and the water availability is 36.24 tmc as against the total capacity of 215.8 tmc. Last year, the water availability on this day in Srisailam was 42.10 tmc.

In Godavari basin, the present water level in Sripadasagar was 471.34 ft, while the FRL is 485.56 ft and the water availability is 10 tmc as against the total availability of 20.1 tmc. Last year, the water availability in Sripadasagar project was 17.53 ft, due to pumping from Kaleshwaram project.

Bharat Rashtra Samithi working president and lawmaker K T Rama Rao on Thursday lashed out at the Congress government for throwing up its hands on water management, blaming it on drought.

“According to IMD figures, Telangana received 14% excess rainfall during 2023-24, compared to normal. Instead of resolving the water crisis, it is surprising that the chief minister is talking about deficit rainfall and drought,” he said.

KTR said the people of Telangana were angry with the Congress which came to power with false promises. “Instead of assuring the farmers that he would resolve the problems of farmers, Revanth Reddy appeals to them to understand the situation. What should they understand? Your incapability?” the BRS leader tweeted.

Message for reflection – Sr. Angelica AOJ

EFFECTIVE LEADERSHIP

Imagine an open umbrella held by a hand- and of the leader of that organization. Under the protection of that umbrella area all departments of the organization. The success of each department can never and will never rise any higher than the level at which the leader holds the umbrella. Leadership sets the standard, whether the organization, be a business, a Church or a family. The higher the standard, the more effective the leadership.

Leadership is an influence”. This statement is simple but profound. A person may have a position of leadership, but if he is not affecting the thoughts and actions of others, he is not a leader. From the Bible, we learn that true leadership comes from serving others. And in Matt. 15:14, we read, If a blind man guides a blind man, both will fall into a pit.”

My favourite leadership proverb is this: He who thinketh he leadeth and hath no one following him is only taking a walk.”

There are six non-negotiable characteristics that every effective leader must have

  1.  A sense of calling,
  2.  an ability to communicate,
  3. confidence in oneself,
  4. creativity in problem-solving,
  5. generosity and
  6. consistency.

1.An effective leader must feel a sense of Calling:

True leaders feel an inner urge to take their positions: they feel a sense of responsibility. In Isaiah 6:1- 9, we find a vivid example of a man specifically called by God. People who are called, discover something bigger than themselves: a mission, a challenge, a goal, or a movement that draws them into an arena. The followers of a true leader confirm his calling He doesn’t have to declare his calling; others do it for him. I believe God places each of us in areas where we can use our gifts and influence others for this sake. How do you sense that a leader is called? One clue is that called leaders have a lasting quality. They do not quit and could not if they wanted to. Also, the anointed people have the right answers; the God who called them equips them. There are many voices in the crowd but the called leader stands out among all the others. He or she rises above the normal, the typical, the usual. The called leader tends to reproduce other called leaders; there is fruit in their ministry. Called leaders are relevant and speak to the times and issues.

2.An effective leader must be able to communicate: Great leaders can visually communicate their message to people. Good leaders also have self-confidence and therefore the confidence of others. The author of this little poem understood the value of self-confidence in leadership:

He who knows not and knows not that he knows not is a fool, shun him

He who knows not, and knows that he knows not, is a child; Teach him. He who knows and knows not that he knows is asleep; Wake him.

He who knows and knows that he knows is wise. Follow him.

3.Confidence in oneself is the cornerstone: People who do not believe in themselves have trouble believing in others. Others have trouble believing in them too. Self-confidence, in a leader, elicits the confidence of his followers, which gives him the freedom to be a risk taker and a change agent.

4.An Effective Leader is Creative in Handling Problems: Everyone faces problems. The ability to creatively find solutions will determine the success or failure of each difficulty.

“Adversity has the effect of eliciting talents which in prosperous circumstances would have lain dormant.” There was once a chicken farmer whose land was flooded virtually every spring. Even though the floods caused him tremendous problems, he refused to do more. When the waters would back up onto his land and flood his chicken coop, he would raise to move his chickens to higher ground. Some years, hundreds of them drowned because he could not move them out in time. One year after suffering heavy losses from a particularly bad flood, he came into the farmhouse and in a voice filled with despair told his wife, “I’ve had it. I can’t afford to buy another place. I can’t sell this one. I don’t know what to do.”

His wife calmly replied, “Buy ducks”

Creativity is a trait not always admired by those who don’t have it. Traditional thinkers don’t realize that creative thinkers are the geniuses of the world. Had it not been for someone’s inventiveness, they might not have jobs!

5.An Effective Leader Is a Generous Contributor:

The measure of a leader is not the number of people who serve him but the number of people he serves. Real leaders have something to give and they give it freely. Anthony De Mello saw a starving child shivering in the cold. Angrily he lifted his eyes to heaven and said, God, how could you allow such suffering? Why don’t you do something? There was a long silence and then De Mello was startled when he heard the voice of God answer him, “I certainly have done something. I made you” It sounds like Jesus, doesn’t it? Great leaders are great givers.

6.An Effective Leader acts Consistently:

The moment people learn we are not dependable or responsible at the moment they will not recognize our leadership. A leader must be consistent in three areas:

  1. People – this builds security
  2. Principles – this provides direction
  3. Projects – this builds morale.

Effective leaders are good motivators

Five ‘C’ s in motivating people:

  1. Consideration – What is the needed response?
  2. Credibility- What must I do to get it?
  3. Content – What must I say to get it?
  4. Conviction – How must I say it?
  5. Conclusion – What steps do I need to take?

The boss drives people: The leader coaches them. The boss depends upon authority; and the leader on goodwill.

The boss says “I” but the leader, “We”

The boss fixes the blame for the breakdown: the leader fixes the breakdown

The boss knows how it is done: the leader shows how.

The boss says “Go” the leader “Let’s go”

PEOPLE OF A WINNING TEAM

There are four things in common we see in a winning team.

  1. They play to win: The difference between playing to win and playing not to lose is often the difference between success and mediocrity.
  2. They have a winning Attitude: Team members believe in themselves, their teammates, and their Vision. And they don’t allow negative thinking to derail them.
  3. They keep improving: The highest reward for their efforts is not what they get from it, but who they become because of it. Team members know intuitively that if they have thought of improving, they are through.
  4. They make their teammates more successful: We can recall when Edmond Hillary and his native guide, Tenzing made their historic climb of Mt. Everest. Coming down the peak Hillary suddenly lost his footing. Tenzing held the line taut and kept them both from falling by digging his axe into the ice. Later Tenzing refused any special credit for saving Hillary’s life: He considered it part of the job. As he put it, “Mountain climbers always help each other”.

The best team does not always win – It is usually the team that gets along Best.

Sr.ROGER's THANKSGIVING AND MEMORIAL SERVICE

Our dear Sr. Roger fell asleep in the Lord on 17.02.24 at 7.00 am. Thanksgiving and memorial service was conducted on 22.02.2024 from 6 pm to 8.45 pm in south Chennai Bethel house (Sister’s residence). Nearly 100 members participated in person and 60 people via Zoom. Sol. Leo recited the opening prayer and pledge. Sol. Beno led the worship. He said that on this day all the responsibilities of Sr.Rojer which sister has held were handed over to heaven. Sol. Sujata said "A good name is better than fine perfume, and the day of death better than the day of birth. It is better to go to a house of mourning than to go to a house of feasting, for death is the destiny of everyone;". When God's people die, there is a presence of God around us. According to Hebrews 5:7-8 In the days of his flesh, Jesus offered up prayers and supplications, with loud cries and tears, to him who was able to save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverence. Although he was a son, he learned obedience through what he suffered. In John 1:14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. Matthew 5:16 says Let your light shine before men, that. they may see your good works, and. glorify your Father which is in heaven. Isaiah 43:1-4 says the word of God. Sr.Roger was a living testimony of God. Sol. Benedict narrated the history of Sr.Roger.

Sr.Roger was born on 15th February 1938 in Kolathur Amma Pettai, Trichy. She had one elder sister and five brothers. Her brother Fr. Panneer Selvam is a priest. In 1956 sister joined St.Anne's Convent, devoted herself to God and worked there with excellence. When Mother Leema Rose went to Rome, she was appointed as Mother General. Then, Sr. Rojer was elected as Assistant Mother General. Both of them have worked together. She has brought the reformation works into the convent. The period they worked here is considered the golden age. Just like how God called Abraham, after her retirement received God's call and brought spiritual awakening in AOJ for 25 years for Jesus.

God had given them uniqueness, an upright walk, a straight vision, and a willingness to take on anything as a challenge, with God's grace. We must continue their work. He said that the sown seeds should be used.

Sr. Angelica:

On 30.1.2024 God gave me a verse from Pslam 61:6 Increase the days of the king’s life, his years for many generations. There were enough verses to meditate for a whole day with it. When this worldly life is completed, life will last forever in the eternal kingdom. In 1979, Mother Leema Rose was the Mother General. and Sr. Roger as Assistant Mother General. They appointed me as a secretary. It is rare to see people with great responsibility. But both of them were kind to me. Sr. Roger was very bold and spoke to the Collector, Police inspector, Bishop, and Minister and achieved the goal. Sometimes she used to take me to speak in English. She was a person who stood bravely for justice.

Mother Leema Rose:

We both studied together from 10th standard. We dedicated our lives to Jesus. I said we can join the convent after graduation. But she said, “We have decided, so we can do it right away" and so both of us immediately joined the convent. We worked hard for 45 years and brought improvements. In 1997, we accepted God's great call to come out of the convent, and we have been doing this ministry for 25 years. As a team, we followed the plans of the Lord. Sr.Roger is a brave person(like Gideon), genuine, honest and a hard worker.

God used her to train 1000s of warriors in these 25 years. Now this training is taking place in other countries as well. Then Sr. Anita spoke Sr.Roger is " a sister who gives correction and good advice". After that, Dr. Albert spoke. It was followed by Sol. Panneer Selvam spoke about his participation in the first Shekinah training. Dr. Patricia spoke that as she grieved over this loss, she saw a vision. Through the door of a bright place Sr.Rojer was going, and when the sister reached the door, the sister looked back and waved her hand. After this vision, her pain went away. Dr Iniyan said that since sister knew that only half a spoon of sugar he needed in coffee, she used to add the exact amount of sugar for him. Before the sisters left for the US, he said that he had come to sisters’ house and the four sisters were singing and praising God. He said this was a sign of their unity. followed by Sol. Prema Manohar, Sol. Mohana Sundaram prayed for the three sisters. The closing prayer and pledge were done by Sol. Regan.

PROPHECY NEWS

POVERTY AND CONFLICT CRIPPLE MYANMAR’S POST-COUP ECONOMY

IN BRIEF

The 2021 military coup in Myanmar has inflicted deep scars on the country's economy, pushing nearly half the population into poverty and erasing years of progress. Weak consumer demand, currency controls, international sanctions and escalating conflict paint a bleak picture for recovery. While the garment industry offers a glimmer of hope, it comes at the cost of exploited workers and unsustainable practices. With public services failing, humanitarian needs soaring and the regime facing mounting pressure, Myanmar's future hinges on a transition to a federal democracy and an end to military rule.

Myanmar remains fundamentally damaged by the military coup that took place in 2021. Nearly half of the population has been forced below the poverty line. Meagre growth of 2 to 3 per cent in 2023 does little to claw back the double-digit economic contraction inflicted by the junta.

Many factors are impeding a more robust recovery, including weak consumer demand due to low employment and high prices. Businesses suffer from perpetual shortages because of foreign currency constraints, depressing exports and hiking inflation.

International asset freezes and sanctions, such as the United States’ designation of two state-owned banks in mid-2023, are designed to impede the military and its close associates. The blacklisting of Myanmar by the Financial Action Task Force in October 2022 has disrupted regime access to the international financial system, damaged Myanmar’s reputation and deterred investment.

Sanctions on state-owned banks have also caused further monitoring and restrictions of banking services involving Myanmar, potentially convincing some institutions to cease processing any regime-related transactions or to be more vigilant involving transactions in and out of Myanmar. For instance, Singapore’s United Overseas Bank Limited took a decision to stop relationships with Myanmar banks in August 2023.

Taxation revenues have fallen and gas exports have declined due to reduced output and disruptions associated with conflict in border areas. There was also a 70 per cent decline in rental income between 2021 and 2022 in the Thilawa Special Economic Zone.

The junta’s Foreign Exchange Supervisory Committee forces most importers to convert Myanmar kyat to foreign currency at the official exchange rate, causing huge losses given the difference between official and market rates. Exporters are also required to surrender foreign currency earnings at the unfavourable official rate. So restrictive are these controls that ordinary people are reportedly unable to withdraw or buy foreign currency.

Junta price controls, issued to stop inflation, are handicapping supplies of everything from cooking oil to rice. By early 2023 there was a near-total halt of rice exports to China because of the currency conversion requirements and a suspension of new export licenses.

Currency controls and policy measures also hampered imports of fertilisers and agricultural production equipment, with the potential for worsening food production and consumption shortages. More broadly, consumer goods imports have declined since the coup, but overall imports remained stable due to an increase in the import of refined mineral oil and fuel.

Since 2021 the regime government has struggled to control surging inflation and the declining value of the kyat. The black market rate of the Myanmar kyat has moved from a pre-coup value of K1300 to US$1 to K3900 by September 2023, aided little by issuances of high-denomination bank notes.

Myanmar’s garment manufacturing industry has been an exception to the crisis and mayhem caused by the junta, with exports increasing since 2022 and now reaching beyond the pre-coup mark.

On the one hand, international buyers and brands are drawn to Myanmar because of low labour costs and the EU’s decision to maintain trade preferences for the industry despite the coup. The decision to retain these trade preferences has been criticised by national and global trade unions and high-profile brand buyers have been under pressure to exit the country as labour rights violations have mounted.

Garment workers numbered around half a million workers in 2022 and are predominantly migrant women from rural areas. But employment in the industry is well below pre-pandemic levels and the World Bank estimated that real wages declined by 15 per cent between 2017 and 2022.

That garment exports have increased while employment has decreased could suggest some level of productivity improvement. But this surge is more likely associated with increased production orders in the context of low production costs and adverse employment conditions including excessive working hours, unpaid overtime, penalties for falling behind targets and insecure employment.

Like other businesses in Myanmar, garment makers face difficulties in accessing foreign currency and production inputs, managing currency exchange, unreliable power supply and transport infrastructure and political risks, making the prospects for sustained growth uncertain.

Evidence of Myanmar’s deteriorating economy is clear across a variety of social indicators. Public spending on health and education has declined since the coup, as have wages and income. Most of the population have significant humanitarian needs and the situation in rural areas impacted by poor agricultural yields and returns is especially dire with nearly half of all rural households in a 2023 survey reporting concern about insufficient access to food and nutrition.

Cyclone Mocha in May 2023 hit coastal regions hard and highlighted once again Myanmar’s environmental vulnerability and the difficulties of providing disaster assistance and aid in conflict zones.

In late 2023 the military suffered their biggest losses since the coup. Reliable predictions for the country’s economic prospects and policy settings are now almost irrelevant in the context of escalating conflict and speculation on the collapse or survival of the regime government.

Myanmar cannot rebuild under a federal democracy inclusive of a more robust and equitable economy until the military regime is gone. Until such a time, economic hardships will continue to be the daily reality for nearly everyone in Myanmar.

Message for reflection – Sr. Angelica AOJ

BUILDING YOUR VISION TEAM
  1. Make the Decision to build a Team. If you want to see your Vision, come to fruition, dedicate yourself to team building. Take care of the team, and it will take care of the Vision.
  2. Gather the Best soldiers possible: The better the soldiers (in the Lord) on the team, the greater the team’s potential for success.
  3. Pay the Price to Develop the Team: Team building has a price, in energy, money and time.
  4. Do things together as a team: Good team leaders know that you touch a heart before you ask for a hand. That’s the Law of Connection. The way you create that connection is by doing things together.
  5. Empower Team Members with Responsibility and Authority: A team can achieve only when its members are vested with responsibility and authority. Responsibility gives them the desire. Authority gives them the means. Empowered team members achieve more and help the team to continually improve.
  6. Give Credit for success to the team: Put the credit where it belongs- with the people who the job done.
  7. Watch to see that the investment in the Team is Paying off: Activity does not always mean accomplishment. You need to measure your investment. Be sure that you are doing the right things to help your people. You can do that by paying attention to what’s paying off.
  8. Stop Investing in Players Who Do Not Grow: For every person who won’t or can’t grow, there is someone else who would love to benefit from what you have to give.
  9. Create New Opportunities for the Team: No matter how long your team has been together or how successful you have been in the past, never let a day go by that you’ve not looking for ways to help your team keep moving forward.
  10. Give the Team the Best Possible Chance to Succeed. In the end, the team fails or succeeds together. The best way to serve the individuals on the team is to see that the whole team wins. Do that, and the vision can come true for everyone.

One man can be a crucial ingredient in a team, but one man cannot make a team.

TEAMWORK…. TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE OUR VISION WORK.

In teamwork, each one gets formed each one forms the others. In all that we see, all that we do, all that we plan, all that we implement in the same spirit will be visible. When Moses complained to God,

Numbers 11:14 I cannot carry this whole nation! The burden is too heavy for me!

The Lord said,

Numbers 11:16, 17 Then the LORD told Moses, “Gather together for me 70 men who are elders of Israel, men whom you know to be elders of the people and officers over them. Then bring them to the Tent of Meeting and let them stand there with you. Then I’ll come down and speak with you. I’ll take some of the spirit that rests on you and apportion it among them, so that they may help you bear the burden of the people. That way, you won’t bear it by yourself.

For teamwork, all the team members should have received “the same spirit”. Pray for the team daily that the anointing of the same spirit is renewed in them so that they grow in unity, love and solidarity.

TROOP CHURCH TESTIMONY

Living Waters Troop Church

This testimony is from Living Waters Troop Church. We completed the third week. We prayed in the Troop Church for child Joselyn, who was suffering from a peculiar disease known as plastic bronchitis for which treatment was even pending because the doctors did not have an idea of what treatment to be given. We prayed as a Troop in the first week itself. She was healed. All her cough has settled the thick mucus which used to fill the bottle has been empty for the past three weeks. Now the mother in the picture shows the dust settles on the bin that has not been used for three weeks now, God has miraculously healed Joselyn without any medications. Hallelujah

HOSPITALITY GIFT SCHOOL

SERVING OTHERS THROUGH LEADING

Leadership of a team is the highest expression of servant leadership. This is true because team leadership embodies each of the principles of servant leadership:

  1. You must humble yourself to build a team. Humility allows you to see the needs of others. Pride insists on working alone.
  2. You cannot seek a position and have the team succeed. Following Jesus keeps you on a mission and out of competition with others.
  3. You must be willing to give up your right to be served and find greatness in service to the mission and other team members.
  4. You must trust that God is in control of your life to do service to those in the team.
  5. You must take up the towel of service to meet the needs of the group.
  6. You must share both responsibility and authority with team members to meet the greater need of the team’s goal.
  7. You must multiply your leadership by empowering other members of the team to lead.

Every effective leader knows that you can win with good players and you can lose with good players, but you cannot win without good players. One of the things that separates winning and losing teams is how the team’s good players are placed.

The Wrong person in the Wrong place = Regression

The Wrong Person in the Right Place = Frustration

The Right Person in the Wrong Place + Confusion

The Right People in the Right Places = Multiplication

PROPHECY NEWS

‘THIS IS THE END’: PEOPLE WHO FLED ICELANDIC VOLCANO FEAR THEIR TOWN WILL NOT SURVIVE

As lava sprayed out of a volcano on Iceland’s Reykjanes peninsula for the third time in as many months on Thursday, Sigurdur Enoksson felt the eruption spelled an end to his life in the town he had called home for three decades.

“This did it. I think we lost this battle,” said Sigurdur, who owns a family bakery employing 10 people in Grindavík. “After 29 years of having my bakery, I think this is the end. I think we are not coming back [to] Grindavík.” The latest eruption did not pose a direct threat to the town, but caused lava to hit water pipes in the region, affecting hot water supply for more than 20,000 people.

Sigurdur, 59, was planning to wind down towards retirement before the onset of the cataclysmic eruptions that have destroyed homes and wrenched gaping cracks in the Earth. The town’s future has since been thrown into question, with scientists fearing volcanic outbreaks could continue for years. “They’re saying eruption [could] be part of our lives for maybe years. How can you [run] a business with that?

“I own my bakery and my house and have no debts – then suddenly something happens and you’re up in the air. The question is if the government will pay us out. They’re doing their best but it’s slow. Those people whose houses were completely ruined are lucky, because they got paid,” he said. Last month, the Prime Minister, Katrín Jakobsdóttir, said the government was considering taking over the properties and offering compensation.

Like many other residents, Sigurdur is living in a rented flat with his family, in a town near Reykjavík. The government has offered the town’s residents financial help for accommodation costs after its evacuation on 10 November, as well as economic support to affected workers. “Lots of people have it worse than us – but we want to know where our lives are going,” Sigurdur said.

After this week’s eruption, Sigurdur feared this may be the final straw for many people from the town, particularly those with children. “I’m not sure if Grindavík will ever be safe. The town is full of cracks everywhere. It was built on lava that has opened up. That happened 800 years ago, too. We can’t control it. You don’t mess with nature.”

For Sigurdur, this could mean the end of the home he has known for half his life, with his family business at its centre. “I’ve built my small bakery with a big heart for 29 years and all that seems gone. I am so sad.”

Iceland’s president, Guðni Jóhannesson, said his thoughts were with the people of Grindavík as lava again burst through the ground on Thursday. “This too shall pass,” Guðni said.

Some residents also held such quiet, conditional optimism close as they heard the news on Thursday. Eva Lind Matthiasdottir, 39, an IT professional with five children aged between 11 and 21, and a two-year-old grandchild, is desperate to return as soon as it is declared safe. But she was clear-eyed about the importance of business, especially the fishing industry, remaining in the town for such a return to be viable.

While she can work remotely, Eva Lind’s husband is a steelworker employing six people working on local boats. This week, 130 employees of a fishing company based in the town were removed from the company’s payroll and will receive state aid.

Grindavík residents have not been given a return date, and it is unclear when, if ever, the town will be safe to inhabit. Eva Lind said the uncertainty of the situation meant many in her community were going back and forth in their minds about whether they would regain their old lives.

She said that while she would feel confident returning if the authorities ruled it safe, she understood that others may not feel the same. “People will always ask: when will this happen again? People will be afraid of it happening again.

“As soon as the town is declared safe, we want to help rebuild our community. We want teachers and kindergartens so we can have families come back.”

The family of eight are renting a home in Reykjavík, after spending two months in a two-bedroom flat owned by a relative. “[I believe] those kids can do anything because of how they handled the situation. They are just heroes.”

For Eva Lind, who moved to Grindavík eight years ago, there is no place like it. “This community is just magical. That saying: ‘It takes a village to raise a child,’ – Grindavík is that village. If there’s bad weather and I can’t pick up the kids, I don’t have to worry, some other parent will say: ‘I can pick them up for you.’ Everyone is always ready to help.

“Some of us want to go back straight away, others can’t imagine ever going back; they’ve cleared their houses. We just have to support each other. Nobody can tell you [what to do] after you lived through the evacuation and saw lava flowing into the town. Your feelings are as valid as mine.”

Páll Erlingsson, 58, has taught in Grindavík’s school for 25 years and was hoping to finish his career there. But after being evacuated, he has been teaching in a school in the capital that has given his oldest year – the 16-year-olds in year 10 – three rooms in which to complete their education together. Páll, who lived with his 27-year-old son in Grindavík, is living out of a suitcase with his girlfriend in Reykjavík.

“If we give up on the school, then it’ll be even more difficult to come back – we’d have to build up from scratch,” he said. “The kids are really positive; they’ve still got that smile.” However, he acknowledged the psychological impact the natural disaster had had on some, adding that he had been offered professional support through his employer. “It’s like having a form of PTSD.

“I try not to think too much of the future – if I think too much, it’ll bring me down. In another day, the sun will come up. My dream is to go back. But think it’ll be one or two years before we can.

“I can’t even think of it if Grindavík becomes a ghost town – that will break my heart.”

TEAMWORK

Teams are incredible things. No task is too great: no accomplishment too great, no vision, too far-fetched for a team. It takes teamwork to make the Vision work.

Coming together is a beginning. Keeping together is progress. Working together is a success.

Church is the coming together of the chosen ones with the same calling, keeping them together in the same spirit, and working together for the salvation of the world. How to achieve it?

“Love your neighbour as you love yourself” is the golden rule of Christianity.

‘You must love your neighbor as yourself.’ No other commandment is greater than these.” Mar 12:31

The words “Loving others” though explained from many perspectives today, let us take the Bible meaning of the same.

“Love is always patient; love is always kind; love is never envious or arrogant with pride. Nor is she conceited, and she is never rude; she never thinks just of herself or ever gets annoyed. She never is resentful; is never glad with sin; she’s always glad to side with truth, and pleased that truth will win. She bears up under everything; believes the best in all; there is no limit to her hope, and never will she fall.”

1 Cor 13:4-7

Being patient towards others, kind, never being envious or arrogant with pride, never be conceited or rude, never getting annoyed or resentful, never glad with sin, always siding with truth, ever being pleased that truth will win, bearing up under everything, believing the best in all, having no limit in hope.

In Genesis 11:1-6 we can read a biblical account of a team effort: the building of the Tower of Babel. In this account we find some key concepts that can help you build an effective team.” … And the Lord said, “Behold. They are one people and they all have the same language. And this is what they begin to do and how nothing which they purpose to do will be impossible for them.”

God didn’t like what He saw because it was for an evil purpose: therefore, in verse seven we read that He decided to stop the team. Nevertheless, this account provides an excellent example of the importance of good teamwork.

HOW TO ‘C’ YOUR WAY INTO BETTER TEAMWORK:

It takes a team to achieve a Vision. But what does it take to create a team?

Commitment that inspires results

Contributions that make a difference

Competency that raises the standard

Communication that increases effectiveness

Cooperation that creates harmony

The chemistry that enhances the personal connection

Creativity that enlarges the team’s potential

Conflict management that reduces tension rapidly

If your team can seize these Cs then you will be able to see your way to victory.

Alone we can do so little: together we can do so much. No one can whistle a symphony. It takes an orchestra to play it.

One person seeking glory doesn’t accomplish much. Success is the result of people putting together to meet common goals.

Talent wins games but teamwork and intelligence win championships.

DRY BONES

Ezekiel 37:1-14 says the hand of the Lord was on me, and he brought me out by the Spirit of the Lord and set me in the middle of a valley; it was full of bones. He led me back and forth among them, and I saw a great many bones on the floor of the valley, bones that were very dry. He asked me, “Son of man, can these bones live?” I said, “Sovereign Lord, you alone know.” Then he said to me, “Prophesy to these bones and say to them, ‘Dry bones, hear the word of the Lord! This is what the Sovereign Lord says to these bones: I will make breath enter you, and you will come to life. I will attach tendons to you and make flesh come upon you and cover you with skin; I will put breath in you, and you will come to life. Then you will know that I am the Lord.” So, I prophesied as I was commanded. And as I was prophesying, there was a noise, a rattling sound, and the bones came together, bone to bone. I looked, and tendons and flesh appeared on them and skin covered them, but there was no breath in them. Then he said to me, “Prophesy to the breath; prophesy, son of man, and say to it, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: Come, breath, from the four winds and breathe into these slain, that they may live.” So, I prophesied as he commanded me, and breath entered them; they came to life and stood up on their feet—a vast army. Then he said to me: “Son of man, these bones are the people of Israel. They say, ‘Our bones are dried up and our hope is gone; we are cut off.’ Therefore, prophesy and say to them: ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: My people, I am going to open your graves and bring you up from them; I will bring you back to the land of Israel. Then you, my people, will know that I am the Lord when I open your graves and bring you up from them. I will put my Spirit in you and you will live, and I will settle you in your own land. Then you will know that I the Lord have spoken, and I have done it, declares the Lord.”

This testimony is the deliverance received by my uncle from his illnesses through the Lord Jesus Christ, the saviour of the world. My uncle has been diagnosed with a severe infection in his kidney and was advised for admission to do RT DJ Shunting, even if we took a second opinion, it also suggested the same. In our group prayer meeting, we surrendered him for his deliverance from this sickness, he has been healed miraculously and all his reports showed positive results. The doctors (Urologist & Nephrologist) were taken back and reverted the decision of surgical procedure and now my uncle turned to live his normal life. Thanking God for witnessing wonders in our uncle's family.

PROPHECY NEWS

HUNGER CRISIS IN ETHIOPIA THREATENS TO ECLIPSE PRIOR FAMINES

In 1985, musician and activist Bob Geldof organized the now-legendary Live Aid benefit concerts in London and Philadelphia to raise money in response to the devastating two-year famine in Ethiopia.

Nearly four decades later, Geldof might need to come out of retirement to plan another event of such proportions if the latest predictions and calculations by experts specializing in hunger in Ethiopia become a reality.

According to the United Nations World Food Program (WFP), some 20 million people in Ethiopia urgently need food assistance.

A former head of the WFP, who doesn't want to be named, told The Associated Press that the Horn of Africa country is "marching towards starvation" once again.

Getachew Reda, the president of the beleaguered Tigray region's interim administration, recently declared that over 90% of the region's population was at risk of starvation and death. Tigrayan meanwhile authorities have warned of an "unfolding famine" that could match the disaster of 1984-85, which claimed the lives of hundreds of thousands of people.

However, the government in Addis Ababa initially tried to shrug these reports off as "inaccurate," accusing Reda of merely "politicizing the crisis."

It later backtracked on those statements, after being criticized for being complicit in the unfolding hunger crisis.

From conflict to famine

In 2022 already, a UN panel published a report accusing Ethiopia's government of using "starvation as a method of warfare" — among other human rights violations committed during the Tigray conflict.

Building on the growing public awareness of the government's complicity in hunger in the country's recent past, Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed decided to tone down his accusatory tone, releasing a joint statement with the UN on Friday to acknowledge the crisis.

In it, the prime minister "makes the link to the current situation with the fact that civilians' communities in this region have not recovered from the impact of the conflict," said Laetitia Bader, deputy director for Africa at Human Rights Watch.

After years of deadly clashes, the government therefore is now also quietly acknowledging that people in the regions of Tigray and Amhara are now facing a new enemy: hunger.

'Conflict and drought are intricately linked'

According to the latest numbers, at least 372 people have already died as a consequence of suffering hunger in the past six months in the country's restive north.

Food shortages have accelerated chiefly due to war in the Tigray region and unrest in neighboring Amara. Meanwhile, the worst drought in decades in the Horn of Africa has only exacerbated the dire situation — particularly in Tigray.

"There is no doubt that conflict and drought are intricately linked right now in north Ethiopia and contributing to the devastating food insecurity situation there," Bader told DW.

The persistent state of insecurity there, both in terms of political developments and agricultural challenges, meant only half of Tigray's farmland was used during the main planting season last year, according to the UN.

In most cases, only about a third of the yield was usable. In some areas of Tigray, that yield was reportedly as low as 2%.

"Nothing we planted [this year] managed to yield any harvest, and now, there is a famine in the country," Fitsum Woldegbriel, from the Atsbi district in eastern Tigray, told DW. She added that in all of 2023, she saw rain in the province only twice.

The 65-year-old said she doesn't even know how to feed her family anymore.

"In the past, when there was a similar problem, you would go somewhere and beg [for something] to eat. Now we don't even have the energy to go."

High-level government corruption

The WFP decided to suspend food aid to Tigray in March 2023 following reports of widespread theft of aid donations, especially grain.

In June, the WFP expanded that suspension of aid to all of Ethiopia in response to ongoing aid corruption.

"Food aid programming was halted in Ethiopia at a critical moment for many months while the UN and the US government were investigating allegations of widespread theft of aid supplies across the country," said Bader.

US officials later said they believed the grain theft may have been the biggest deliberate diversion of grain in history — coming at a time when such commodities continue to be in high demand amid limited exports from Ukraine due to the ongoing war with Russia.

"It's obviously essential for donors and the aid community to be investigating and to be taking actions against the theft of aid supplies," said Bader.

"But at the same time, it is critical that this doesn't come at the cost of the many people in need," she added.

Where did the aid go?

It remains unclear whose pockets benefited from the theft of aid donations. Some humanitarian groups have blamed Ethiopian government officials, while others have pointed the finger at the country's powerful military.

"This is a government — and forces that [the prime minister] oversees — that have deliberately hampered civilians' access to food as part of their strategy of war in the Tigray region," said Bader.

Following the discovery of the widespread fraud, the WFP took a set of precautions to avert future theft, resuming some of its limited aid distribution to Ethiopia just six months ago. The US only restarted its aid program in December.

However, even just one month into the resumption of aid deliveries by the WFP and other aid agencies and governments, only a small fraction of people in Tigray said they are receiving food aid.

The Tigray Food Cluster, a group of aid agencies co-chaired by the WFP working with Ethiopian officials, announced two weeks ago that only 14% of more than 3 million people targeted for food aid in the region were able to eat.

Children most affected

Yosef Gebremichael, a child nurse in Central Tigray, is worried that hunger might again become the greatest killer of children in the country, telling DW that the rate of malnutrition among children had tripled in recent months.

"In just a few months, more than 80 children suffering from severe malnutrition have received support at our hospital. And even those who were discharged from treatment [had to] come back again."

Meanwhile, in neighboring Amhara region, the distribution of aid also appears to be suffering setbacks made more difficult by a rebellion since last August, which experts say is obstructing the movements of humanitarian organizations there.

HRW's Bader worries that any potential escalation of the Amhara conflict would result in further suffering.

"Government forces and their allies restricted humanitarian assistance, targeted humanitarian actors, deliberately targeted food sources and livelihood sources throughout the conflict [in Tigray]," she said.

Message for reflection – Sr. Angelica AOJ

TEN TIPS FOR GIVING CRITICISM

Check your motive: The goal of confrontation should be to help, not to humiliate.

Make sure the issue is worthy of criticism- Continual petty criticism is the mark of a small mind and the evidence of pride.

BE SPECIAL: When you confront you must tactfully explicitly say exactly what you mean and provide examples to back yourself up. If you can’t be specific, don’t confront. People can usually tell when you are skirting an issue and will not respect you for it.

DON’T UNDERMINE THE PERSON’S SELF-CONFIDENCE:

Try to find at least one area in which you can praise the person before you expose the problem. Stay away from all-inclusive statements like “you always……. or “You never.” Assure them that you have confidence in them and their ability to handle the situation correctly.

DON’T COMPARE ONE PERSON WITH ANOTHER: Deal with people on an individual basis. Comparison always causes resentment and resentment causes hostility.

BE CREATIVE OR DON’T CONFRONT: There is nothing as easy as denouncing. It does not take much to see something is wrong, but it does take some eyesight to see what will put it right again. Unless you are willing to help to some degree in turning the situation around, you are not ready to comment on the problem.

ATTACK THE PROBLEM; NOT THE PERSON: Deal with the issue at hand. When a confrontation becomes a personal attack, you destroy your credibility and find yourself in a no-win situation. The expected outcome of a confrontation should be that the offender leaves with a clear understanding of the problem and the hope that he can turn it around.

CONFRONT WHEN THE TIME IS RIGHT: The right time is just as soon as you know something is wrong. When you’ve completed your homework then you are prepared. When you wait too long you lose the opportune moment and the issue becomes history. When you confront the person in a timely fashion you are better able to keep the facts straight and use the incident as an opportunity to help the person grow.

LOOK AT YOURSELF BEFORE LOOKING AT OTHERS: Instead of putting others in their place, put yourself in their place. Have you successfully done what you are accusing the other guy of failing to do? You may see that you are the one who needs to make changes.

END CONFRONTATION WITH ENCOURAGEMENT: Always give confrontation the “sandwich treatment” Sandwich the criticism between praise at the beginning and encouragement at the end. To leave a discouraged person without hope is cruel and vindictive.

PROBLEMS IN RELATIONSHIPS

In most relationships, it is inevitable that at some point a confrontation will take place., If a confrontation is handled correctly, it can strengthen the relationship. If not, it can bring an abrupt unhappy end to the relationship. For this not to happen, follow these six guidelines.

  1. Bring in principal persons involved in the conflict
  2. Line up the facts
  3. Never reprimand while angry
  4. Be precise about the offence
  5. Get the other person’s side of the story
  6. Be sure you keep comprehensive records
  7. Don’t harbour a grudge.

On ultimate goal in dealing with problems, should be to present the truth in such a way as to build relationships, not destroy it.Finally, there are certain general rules which you can put into practice that will enable you to work more effectively with problem people.

  • Love them unconditionally
  • Ask God for wisdom in working with them
  • Stay emotionally healthy yourself
  • Do not elevate people to positions of leadership to rescue them
  • Be honest with God, yourself and them.

PARTS OF KERALA RECORD ABOVE NORMAL TEMPERATURES, YELLOW ALERT ISSUED

Kerala has witnessed above normal temperatures since last week, with state authorities advising people to take precautionary measures against the heat.

In Short

IMD issues yellow alert in Kerala due to high temperatures

Kozhikode, Kannur, Thiruvananthapuram to record up to 37 degrees

Advisory issued to prevent heatstrokes and sunburn

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert in three districts of Kerala after recording above normal temperatures for this time of the season. While the maximum temperature in Kozhikode is likely to soar to 37 degrees Celsius, Kannur and Thiruvananthapuram will record a high of 36 degrees.

For the past one week, Kerala has reported high temperatures, prompting the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) to issue an advisory asking people to take necessary precautions to prevent heatstrokes and sunburn.

The advisory also asks people to stay indoors and avoid direct sun exposure, especially from 11 am till 3 pm, as well as to keep themselves hydrated at all times.

School-going children were advised to reduce outdoor activities.

The SDMA has also asked to arrange proper work hours for people engaged in construction and agricultural work, as well as for street vendors.

Meanwhile, it also asked establishments to ensure that those who deliver online food on two-wheelers are safe during the afternoon hours.

The advisory warned against leaving children and pets in parked vehicles.

HANDLING CRITICISM

Our ability to take criticism can make or break us. No one is indifferent to criticism it causes us to respond either positively or negatively. If you want to do great things for God, there will always be someone who doesn’t want to participate.

Taking a Positive Approach:

There is a saying that “what goes around comes around” If you are a critical negative person, life will treat you badly. On the other hand, if you have a positive joyous outlook, the joy you share will be returned to you.

There are two kinds of people who are highly subject to criticism. The first group are the leaders. Aristotle said it well, “Criticism is something you can avoid easily by saying nothing, doing nothing and being nothing.” One of the costs of leadership is criticism. If you are willing to stand apart from the crowd you are putting yourself in a vulnerable position to receive some degree of criticism.

Don’t let that keep you from, being all you can be.“Rise above it

Besides leaders, the other group of individuals who are prone to criticism are the “leapers”. People who leap into the public eye because they are change agents. Many years ago, the medical community strongly opposed the idea of vaccinating children against disease because it was new and unknown. People who make discoveries and create inventions find it takes time for people to accept their ideas because people fear change. Unless God has raised you for this very thing, you believe and stand for, you will be run over by the opposition of men and devils: but if God be for you, who can be against you? Are all of them together stronger than God? Be not weary in doing good.

The question for leaders and leapers is not “Will I be confronted with criticism?” but “How can I handle and learn from criticism and confrontation”?

It is possible to learn how to take criticism successfully.

The following are TEN TIPS FOR TAKING CRITICISM

  1. Understanding the difference between constructive and destructive criticism: Is it positive criticism that builds you up or negative criticism to tear you down? To determine the motive behind the confrontation, ask yourself some questions, first in what spirit is it given? Look beyond the words and determine the motives. Is the critic projecting a gentle attitude or a judgmental attitude? If your critic’s attitude is kind, you can rest assured that the criticism is meant to be constructive.Second, when is the criticism given: Times of confrontation must be shared privately, not within public view or hearing. Third, why is the criticism given? Is it for personal benefit and growth or is it given firm personal hurt?
  1. Don’t take yourself too seriously: If you can develop the ability to laugh at yourself, you will be much more relaxed when given or given criticism.
  2. Look beyond the criticism and see the critic: When someone comes to you with news about another person, be more interested in the person who said it than what was said.

Keep in mind certain considerations regarding your critic! First, is it someone whose character you respect? Adverse criticism from a wise man is more to be desired than the enthusiastic approval of a fool. Second, is this person frequently critical? Is criticism a pattern? If so, don’t place too much value on what they say. Possibly it is a way to get attention. Criticism from a positive person on the other hand probably deserves your attention.

  1. Watch your attitude toward the critic: A negative attitude toward criticism can be more destructive than the criticism itself.

1 Pet 2:21-23. Provides the right attitude towards criticism.

Could it be that a poor attitude reveals the fact that we have trusted in ourselves rather than in God who knows the entire situation? If we trust Him and are obedient, we can expect some criticism. He has called us to love those who are critical of us.

  1. Realize that good people get criticized.

Jesus, whose motives were pure and whose character was spotless, was called a glutton. (Matt 11:19) a drunkard (Lk 7:34) a Samaritan (Jn 8:48) and a friend of sinners (Matt 11:19 and Mak 2:16). If our lives are Christ-like like we can expect criticism.

These are times when we should see criticism. So, if you are living on a higher plane than the world expect some criticism.

  1. Keep physically and spiritually in shape: Physical exhaustion has a tremendous effect on the way we act and react: it distorts the way we see and handle life. It’s a simple fact of life that our minds and bodies need rest.

Elijah succumbed to opposition when he was in a state of weariness. Jezebel was a firecracker, and her opposition sapped the preacher’s strength. Elijah complained, “It is enough, now, O Lord, take away my life: for I am no better than my fathers (I Ki 19:4). Elijah was completely shaken. Watch weariness because satan will take advantage when we become overly tired, we become overly critical, and at the same time, we are less able to handle criticism from others.

  1. Don’t just see the critic if there is a crowd: The following story illustrates this point. George Bernard Shaw, the Irish playwright certainly had his critics, but he knew how to handle them. After one opening, a critic voiced his displeasure. He said, It’s rotten! It’s rotten” To which Shaw replied, “I agree with you perfectly, but what are we two against so many”!
  2. Wait for a time to prove them wrong. Time is your best ally: it allows you to prove yourself right. If you know your action or decision was right, hang there. Time will prove you out.
  3. Surround yourself with positive people. When you have optional time, spend it with people who will build you up. Enough quality time with positive people will minimize the effect of negative criticism. It will also discourage you from being critical. When an eagle is attacked by crows, he does not counterattack. Instead, he soars higher and higher in ever-widening circles until the pests leave him alone. So rise above the criticism. It is hard to soar like an eagle if you identify yourself with turkeys!
  4. Concentrate on your mission: Change your mistakes. Most people do exactly the opposite – they change their mission and concentrate on their mistakes. If you run from your task each time you make a mistake, you will never accomplish anything. You will always be in a state of frustration and defeat. The only real mistakes in life are the mistakes from which we learn nothing.
  5. To build a strong relationship you need to know how to take criticism gracefully, but there are also times when you will have to be the critic. It is possible to confront without ruining a relationship, but use caution because careless confrontation can be devastating.

TROOP CHURCH

Eli Troop church was conducted physically by Sol. Gesha in Trichy.

Testimonies:

Sol.Gesha: God spoke to me to start a troop church in Sol.Maithili’s house. Marvelously, God acted in their family. Her husband was bedridden due to an accident for a month. After the operation also he couldn’t walk. The doctor told Sol. Maithili that her husband needs to be operated on again to walk. By God’s grace, he started walking by week 6 of the troop church. God gave them spiritual strength throughout the troop church not only to walk but also to proclaim say the word of God to others. There was no revenue during these days because her husband couldn’t work. But God gave them revenue through another person to whom they had given money a long time ago. They didn’t even expect that the person would give them money. Sol. Maithili’s daughter married a non-believer and was converted. She fought with her husband and came to her mother’s home during week 2 of the troop church. After attending the troop for 2 weeks she went back to her home carrying a bible with her. Glory to God!

DAVID SCHOOL OF WORSHIP

David School of Worship was conducted by Sol. Richa Jain from 9th January to 16th January 2024 in Delhi.

Jesus said to her, “Woman, believe me, the hour is coming when neither on this mountain nor

in Jerusalem will you worship the Father.

You worship what you do not know;

we worship what we know, for salvation is from the Jews.

But the hour is coming, and is now here,

when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth,

for the Father is seeking such people to worship him.

God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.”

LOT AND THE STRANGERS

In Genesis 19:1-29 That evening the two angels came to the city of Sodom. Lot was sitting near the city gates and saw them. He got up and went to them. He bowed to show respect and said, “Sirs, please come to my house, and I will serve you. There you can wash your feet and stay the night. Then tomorrow you can continue your journey. “The angels answered, “No, we will stay the night in the city square. “But Lot continued to ask them to come to his house, so they agreed and went with him. Lot gave them something to drink. He baked some bread for them, and they ate it. That evening, just before bedtime, men from every part of town came to Lot’s house. They stood around the house and called to Lot. They said, “Where are the two men who came to you tonight? Bring them out to us. We want to have sex with them. “Lot went outside and closed the door behind him. He said to the men, “No, my friends, I beg you, please don’t do this evil thing! Look, I have two daughters who have never slept with a man before. I will give my daughters to you. You can do anything you want with them. But please don’t do anything to these men. They have come to my house, and I must protect them.” The men surrounding the house answered, “Get out of our way!” They said to themselves, “This man Lot came to our city as a visitor. Now he wants to tell us how we should live!” Then the men said to Lot, “We will do worse things to you than to them.” So the men started moving closer and closer to Lot. They were about to break down the door. But the two men staying with Lot opened the door, pulled him back inside the house, and closed the door. Then they did something to the men outside the door—they caused all these evil men, young and old, to become blind. So, the men trying to get in the house could not find the door. The two men said to Lot, “Are there any other people from your family living in this city? Do you have any sons-in-law, sons, daughters, or any other people from your family here? If so, you should tell them to leave now. We are going to destroy this city. The Lord heard how evil this city is, so he sent us to destroy it.” So Lot went out and spoke to his sons-in-law, the men who had married his other daughters. He said, “Hurry and leave this city! The Lord will soon destroy it!” But they thought he was joking. The next morning at dawn, the angels were trying to make Lot hurry. They said, “This city will be punished, so take your wife and your two daughters who are still with you and leave this place. Then you will not be destroyed with the city.” When Lot did not move fast enough, the two men grabbed his hand. They also took the hands of his wife and his two daughters. The two men led Lot and his family safely out of the city. The Lord was kind to Lot and his family. So after the two men brought Lot and his family out of the city, one of the men said, “Now run to save your life! Don’t look back at the city, and don’t stop anywhere in the valley. Run until you are in the mountains. If you stop, you will be destroyed with the city!” But Lot said to the two men, “Sirs, please don’t force me to run so far! You have been very kind to me, your servant. You have been very kind to save me, but I cannot run all the way to the mountains. What if I am too slow and something happens? I will be killed! Look, there is a very small town near here. Let me run to that town. I can run there and be safe.” The angel said to Lot, “Very well, I’ll let you do that. I will not destroy that town. But run there quickly. I cannot destroy Sodom until you are safely in that town.” (That town is named Zoar, because it is a small town.) Lot was entering the town as the sun came up and the Lord began to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah. He caused fire and burning sulfur to fall from the sky. He destroyed the whole valley—all the cities, the people living in the cities, and all the plants in the valley. Lot’s wife was following behind him and looked back at the city. When she did, she became a block of salt. Early the next morning, Abraham got up and went to the place where he stood before the Lord. Abraham looked down into the valley toward the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah. He saw clouds of smoke rising from the land, like smoke from a furnace. God destroyed the cities in the valley, but he remembered what Abraham had said. So, God sent Lot away from those cities before destroying them.

PROPHECY NEWS

FIRST CYCLONE OF 2024, ALVARO, STRIKES MADAGASCAR

Tropical Cyclone Alvaro made landfall in southwest Madagascar on January 1st, 2024, marking the first significant cyclone impact on the island nation in the ongoing 2023-2024 cyclone season for the southwest Indian Ocean region. This season, spanning late October to May has brought unprecedented challenges to the region, with Alvaro being the latest cyclone to wreak havoc.

Impact of Current Cyclone Alvaro

According to the latest data, Cyclone Alvaro has left a trail of destruction, affecting over 17,200 people in Madagascar. Unfortunately, the toll includes at least 5 reported deaths and 8,400 individuals displaced in this southern African country known for its rich biodiversity, including vanilla and lemur populations. The actual death toll could potentially be higher, as rescue and recovery efforts are still ongoing.

Recent Cyclones Hitting Madagascar

Madagascar, prone to violent storms, has been facing a series of cyclonic events in recent times. In January 2023, Cyclone Cheneso struck the northeast, impacting over 90,000 residents. Last February, Cyclone Freddy made landfall on the southeast coast, resulting in 17 fatalities and displacing 19,000 individuals. The cumulative impact of these successive cyclones has tested the country’s resilience and disaster management capabilities.

Alvaro’s Strikes Vulnerable Regions

Cyclone Alvaro has particularly affected provinces like Atsimo-Andrefana in southwestern Madagascar, which already face immense flooding challenges during heavy rains. The cyclone has exacerbated these issues, hampered evacuation efforts and drained excess water towards the sea. This highlights the vulnerability of certain regions that are prone to natural disasters and the urgent need for targeted interventions.

Formation and Intensification

Alvaro originated on December 31, 2023, marking the onset of the 2023/24 South-West Indian Ocean Cyclone season. By January 1, the storm intensified into a severe tropical storm, reaching its peak strength with sustained winds of 110 km/h (70 mph). The cyclone maintained its intensity until making landfall, after which it rapidly weakened over the mountainous terrain. On January 2, Alvaro was categorized as an overland depression. However, as it exited into the Indian Ocean on January 3, it quickly re-intensified into a tropical storm.

Impact and Response

Meteo Madagascar issued a yellow alert on December 31 for the districts of Morondava, Manja, Morombe, and Toliara, advising residents and mariners to exercise caution. Following landfall, the alert was upgraded to Red. The National Bureau of Risk and Disaster Management reported the relocation of over 400 individuals to safety at six evacuation sites. Eight houses, six schools, and various other structures suffered severe damage, with the regions of Haute Matsiatra, Atsimo-Andrefana, and Menabe being the worst affected.

Message for reflection – Sr. Angelica AOJ

UNDERSTANDING PERSONALITY TYPES

There are several types of difficult people and it’s helpful to identify their common traits in order to learn how to deal with them effectively.

1.“Sherman Tank” Personality: This is a person who runs over everything and anything that is in the way. These people have a tendency to intimidate others because of their “I’m right- you’re wrong” attitude. They intimidate others through sheer force and power: their behavior is aggressive and even hostile. Because of the Sherman Tank’s insensitivity, people tend to battle with them, it is difficult to sit down and reason or rationalize with “tanks”

There is a strategy for dealing with Sherman Tanks. If the issue could have a direct negative effect on others within the organization, it probably will be worth fighting over. But if it is an insignificant issue or a matter of pride, it’s not worth the battle. When a crucial issue arises, however, you must stand up to this personality. Be direct. Look at them face to face and confront the specific issues at hand. Unfortunately, these people cause more pain than any of the other difficult personality types because they feel little pain themselves. What adds to the burden of dealing with these people is that with their power to intimidate, they can pull together many allies.

2.Space cadet personality: These people live in their own worlds, walking to the beat of a different drummer. They usually do not respond to normal motivation techniques. Frustration is the overwhelming feeling we get when working with this type of person. Don’t place Space Cadets off as a lost cause also. Search for the key to his/her uniqueness and seek to develop; Many space cadets are extremely brilliant and creative. They have much to offer if they are put in the right spot. They work best even if they work alone. So, find an area in which they’re interested and give them space to dream and create.

3.The “volcano’personality: this is an explosive unpredictable type of person who tends to be unapproachable. How do we treat them? Should we walk around them softly, or test the waters to see what kind of day they are having? It’s difficult to relax around them because we don’t know when the heat is about to rise. Just as the space Cadet causes frustration, the volcano causes tension.

How should we handle volcanoes when they blow up? Calmness is the key. Remove them from the crowd and remain calm. Once you have them alone, let them vent steam. Don’t try to interrupt because they won’t be hearing you. Then provide a soft, clear answer concerning the situation. Finally hold these people accountable for the things they say and the people they harm.

4.The‘Thumb sucker’ personality: Thumb suckers tend to pout, are full of self-pity, and try to get people to cater to their desires. This pouting is used as leverage to manipulate others. If things are not going their way, they can create a heavy atmosphere. They can do this very cleverly. Often, they employ the silent treatment to get what they want. Here’s a strategy for dealing with this individual. First, make the thumb sucker aware of the fact that moodiness is a choice. People become moody to manipulate people and gain control. Teach them that they are responsible for the atmosphere they create, especially if they are in a position of leadership. The best method of attack is to praise this person’s positive ideas and actions and ignore him when he’s sucking his thumb.

5.The 'wet blanket’ personality: This kind of person is constantly down and negative. He is a kind of impossibility thinker who sees a problem in every solution.

The most difficult thing about working with a person like this is that he or she usually takes no responsibility for his/her negative attitude and behavior. It is either “the other person’s fault or its “Just the way I am” – a way of blaming God. Again, don’t reinforce the Wt Blanket’s behavior by providing a platform from which to make excuses.

Kindly but firmly point out that you have confidence in this person but his or her present attitude is hindering progress. He needs to choose whether or not he is going to risk being positive and responsible.

6.The “Garbage Collector’ Personality: This kind of person is locked even deeper into the mire of negativity than the “Thumb Sucker” and the Wet blanket. Garbage Collectors have surrendered the leadership of their lives to negative emotions. They love to rehearse and replay the injuries they have suffered at the hands of other people. They nurse their wound and hold onto their wounded ill spirits. How do you deal with these people? First, confront them about the way they try to represent other people. Challenge their statements by pinning them down when making generalizations and exaggerations.

7.The ‘User’ Personality: This is a person who manipulates others for his/her gain. Users avoid responsibility for themselves while demanding time and energy from others to benefit their situations. They use guilt to get what they want. They put on a weak front to get people to feel sorry for them and help them out.

How do you work with users? First predetermined limits on how far you will go to help them. Otherwise, they will push your guilt button and you will weaken. Don’t feel obligated to users and don’t feel guilty for not feeling obligated. Most of the time, a simple firm “No’ is the best medicine.

EVANGELISM THROUGH TRADE

Evangelism through business was formed in 2021. Soldiers of AOJ did not show much interest in starting businesses. Experts came forward to give training in various fields free of cost. But only a few came forward to start businesses. But they were not able to invest. So, the group members were praying continuously for capital investments.

  • Sudha started a unit for the production of eatables. Troop church for his employees was launched. The business is well established now. He is now appointing dealers for the Chennai district.
  • We planned for integrated farming.1000 acres have been identified in Tamil Nadu. We are now choosing youths who are interested in farming for proper training. More than 100 soldiers will be given employment on that farm. As per the visions received by members of this group, we are planning to start an industrial park. We are praying for location and investment.

FRP LEVEL (Forgiveness and Reconciliation Programme)

Demon-Resist him! He will flee!

  • Demon's power over a believer is only in threats and lies.
  • If you believe the lie, if you believe the threats then YOU have given them power.
  • The Word of God tells us plainly to resist the devil and he will flee from you.
  • Believing their lie is hardly resisting.
  • Rebuke them in the Name of Jesus Christ, they will flee.
  • They are responsible for crime, disease and disaster
  • They are rebels, they were the first to rebel against authority and that is one of the first detectable signs of demons in humans, rebellion.

HOSPITALITY GIFT SCHOOL

Abraham and the Strangers

In Genesis 18:1-15 the Lord appeared to Abraham near the great trees of Mamre while he was sitting at the entrance to his tent in the heat of the day. Abraham looked up and saw three men standing nearby. When he saw them, he hurried from the entrance of his tent to meet them and bowed low to the ground. He said, “If I have found favor in your eyes, my Lord, do not pass your servant by. Let a little water be brought, and then you may all wash your feet and rest under this tree. Let me get you something to eat, so you can be refreshed and then go on your way—now that you have come to your servant.” “Very well,” they answered, “do as you say.” So Abraham hurried into the tent to Sarah. “Quick,” he said, “get three seahs of the finest flour and knead it and bake some bread.”

Then he ran to the herd selected a choice, tender calf and gave it to a servant, who hurried to prepare it. He then brought some curds and milk and the calf that had been prepared, and set these before them. While they ate, he stood near them under a tree. “Where is your wife Sarah?” they asked him. “There, in the tent,” he said. Then one of them said, “I will surely return to you about this time next year, and Sarah your wife will have a son.” Now Sarah was listening at the entrance to the tent, which was behind him. Abraham and Sarah were already very old, and Sarah was past the age of childbearing. So Sarah laughed to herself as she thought, “After I am worn out and my lord is old, will I now have this pleasure?” Then the Lord said to Abraham, “Why did Sarah laugh and say, ‘Will I really have a child, now that I am old?’ Is anything too hard for the Lord? I will return to you at the appointed time next year, and Sarah will have a son.” Sarah was afraid, so she lied and said, “I did not laugh.” But he said, “Yes, you did laugh.”

PROPHECY NEWS

Warnings About Brain Chip Technology

Billionaire Elon Musk’s brain chip company Neuralink has implanted its device in a human for the first time, despite warnings from health professionals and a call for caution from a world renowned Australian Christian futurist who welcomes the technology, but fears it could pose an extreme danger to humanity if it falls into the wrong hands.

Neuralink hopes its mind-reading, brain-mimicking computer chips will help people deal with paralysis or other debilitating conditions, including degenerative diseases like ALS, also known as motor neurone disease. Mr. Musk has explained that if the technology functions appropriately, patients could someday use the implant to communicate or access social media by moving cursors and typing with their minds. “Imagine if [the paralysed late scientist] Stephen Hawking could have communicated faster than a speed typist or an auctioneer. That is the goal,” he explained.

The Physicians Committee of Responsible Medicine (PCRM) has expressed concerns about the brain chip venture. It suggested that such implanted devices “risk problems, including being difficult to repair and having a high potential for severe medical complications in patients.”

Neuralink’s competitors like Synchron, Precision Neuroscience, Paradromics and Blackrock Neurotech are also seeking a slice of the potentially hugely lucrative Brain Computer Interface (BCI) industry which “deciphers brain signals” and translates them into commands for external devices. Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology is being integrated into the BCIs to enhance their interpretive capacity. Researchers are also examining whether BCIs could help blind people see.

Neuralink began recruiting patients for its first in-human clinical trial last year after it received approval from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to conduct the study in May. The clinical trial marks just the first step in Neuralink’s eventual path toward commercialisation.

A patient who received Synchron’s BCI used it to post from a Twitter account in 2021. Precision Neuroscience carried out its first in-human clinical study last year. Paradromics is reported to be aiming to launch its first trial with human patients in the first half of this year.

London-based Australian-born Christian futurist Mal Fletcher who was the founding national director of Youth Alive Australia in the 1980s, warns AI brain implants could blur the understanding of what it means to be human and has urged Christians to actively engage in the debate on the technology. The social commentator and technology expert told Premier Christian News that while it has “great potential benefits”, he’s concerned about its vulnerability to dangerous ownership.

He said many questions need answers before it can be approved, such as: “Who owns the data generated by my thoughts? Do I own it? Does Neuralink own it? And might some third party like a marketing company or even a government agency be able to get access to it? I think the possibilities for what we call ‘technology creep’ here are endless, you know, technology introduced for one purpose may then be used for a different purpose without any open debate.”

Mr. Fletcher explained that BCI developers would have far greater scope to control the brain than previously tested technology as it would not be limited to specialised areas, but could instead communicate wirelessly to different areas of the brain. It, therefore, runs the risk of “blurring the line between human and machine.”

“We already treat phones as an extension of our physiology, but at least we can turn them off or leave them at home in a bedroom drawer. Building tech into the human body raises the possibility that we might become hackable and trackable devices. Some people argue that the line between humans and tech is no longer important. I happen to believe it is,” he asserted.

Mr. Fletcher explained to Premier that companies and governments need to broaden out the debates over the technology to include philosophers, physicists, people who are involved in medicine, and even theology, in order to draw ethical guidelines that define and protect “what it means to be human.”

He also urged Christians to look to Psalm 24 which he believes discourages us from burying one’s head in the sand over such issues. The first verse reads: The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it (NIV).

The futurist points out: “So the whole earth belongs to the Lord, not just the church, not just things concerned with spiritual aspects of life, but all of life He created and all of it belongs to Him. Ultimately, our job is to be good stewards of that.”

“So, as Christians, our responsibility is not to retreat into just personal piety, but to engage with the civic authorities and those who make the choices that affect people’s lives and, in fact, reflect how people will respond to the message we’re given,” he concluded.

DEALING WITH DIFFICULT PEOPLE

Loving difficult people - Christians are often taught that we should be full of grace. Just what does that mean? Does God expect us to get along peaceably with everybody? Are we the ones who must always overlook other people’s faults and idiosyncrasies? The right relationship with difficult people can seem like an impossible standard to reach. Just what are we supposed to do?

Apostle Paul offers this practical advice, “If possible, so far as it depends upon you, be at peace with all men”. (Rom 12:18) Do the best you can to get along with everyone. Yet realize that once in a while you are going to have a relationship with a difficult person who may fall short of the ideal.

A personal inventory of the “Three P’s” will help you determine your part in a difficult relationship or association.

Perspective – How do I see myself? How do I see others? How do others see me? Our perspective determines how far our relationships will go,

Process – Do I understand the stages of a relationship? Do I realize there are some stages in a relationship that are more crucial than others?

Problems – When facing difficulties in a relationship how do I handle them?

A person who sees himself positively also looks for the good in others. In the same manner, a person who sees himself negatively also will look always at the negative things in others. It is all in one’s perspective

PERSPECTIVE AND RELATIONSHIPS:

I ACT AS I SEE MYSELF. It is impossible to consistently behave in a manner that is inconsistent with the way we see ourselves. Perspective is crucial. That’s why Jesus spoke about judging others. “Why do you look at the speck in your brother’s eye but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? First take the log in out of your own eye. (Mat 7:4-5) He is telling us we need to deal with our own perspective before we criticize another person.

In Mat 22:39, we read Jesus’ command to love your neighbor as yourself.” He knew that if we truly loved ourselves, we would also love our neighbours. He also knew that before we could really love our neighbor, we would need to love ourselves- not a selfish, self-serving type of love, but a deep appreciation of who we are in Christ. Most of the time our relational problems stem from the fact that we ourselves have problems or issues that haven’t been resolved. It is not possible to treat another person’s hurt until we have first discovered the cure and accepted the treatment ourselves.

The story of the Good Samaritan in Luke 10-30-37 illustrates this principle. The robbers who beat up the traveler used people. They stole from the traveler and saw him as a victim to exploit. The priest and Levite were legalistic and withdrawn. They saw the beaten, robbed victim as a problem to be avoided. The Good Samaritan was a social outcast – despised, ignored, and rejected by society. He knew what it was like to be passed by and uncared for, but he also had experienced the cure. When he saw this victim, he was able to empathize with him. He looked upon him as a person who needed to be loved, identifying with the traveler’s problem and sharing in the solution.

When you realize that people treat you according to how they see themselves rather than how you are, you are less likely to be affected by their behavior. Your self-image will reflect who you are not how you have been treated by others. This type of stability will have a tremendous effect on how you feel toward and deal with others. The key to successful relationships gets down to responsibility. I am responsible for how I treat others. I may not be responsible for how they treat me, but I am responsible for my reaction to those who are difficult. I can’t choose how I will respond to you.

DO NOT INVITE YOUR FRIENDS,

YOUR BROTHERS OR SISTERS,

PROPHECY NEWS

FREEZING US WINTER STORMS THREATEN TO BREAK LOW-TEMPERATURE RECORDS

Icy winter weather blanketed the US on Saturday as a wave of Arctic storms threatened to break low-temperature records in the heartland, spread cold and snow from coast to coast and cast a chill over everything from football playoffs to presidential campaigns.

As the three-day Martin Luther King Jr Day holiday weekend began, the weather forecast was a quilt of color-coded advisories, from an ice storm warning in Oregon to a blizzard warning in the northern plains to high wind warnings in New Mexico.

“It’s overall been a terrible, terrible winter. And it came out of nowhere – two days,” Dan Abinana said as he surveyed a snowy Des Moines, Iowa. He had moved to the state from Tanzania as a child, but said: “You never get used to the snow.”

In Portland, Oregon, medical examiners were investigating a hypothermia death as freezing rain and heavy snow fell in a city more accustomed to mild winter rains, and hundreds of people took shelter overnight at warming centers. Weather-related deaths already were reported earlier in the week in California, Idaho, Illinois and Wisconsin.

Nebraska governor Jim Pillen announced a state of emergency Saturday, citing “very dangerous conditions” in the state. Up to 2ft (0.6 metres) of snow has fallen in some areas over the past week, and wind chills were well below zero.

“This event is not going away tonight. It’s not going away tomorrow,” Pillen said at a news conference, “it’s going to take a number of days.”

About 1,700 miles of Nebraska highways were closed due to heavy snow. State police assisted more than 400 stranded motorists, said Col John A Bolduc, the head of the Nebraska state patrol.

In Iowa, some cars were stuck for five hours in blowing snow on Interstate 80 after semitrailers jackknifed in slippery conditions, blocking traffic and leaving 100 vehicles trapped. Altogether, state troopers had handled 86 crashes and 535 motorist-assist calls since Friday, state patrol Sgt Alex Dinkla said.

Road crews were “working the snow-blowers like crazy”, Dinkla said, adding that high winds were blowing snow right back onto roadways.

Governors from New York to Louisiana warned residents to be prepared for worrisome weather.

Parts of Montana fell below -30F (-34C) Saturday morning, and the National Weather Service said similar temperatures were expected as far as northern Kansas, with -50F (-46C) possible in the Dakotas. In St Louis, too, the National Weather Service warned of rare and “life-threatening” cold.

“We’ve had now multiple back-to-back storms” parading across the country, the weather service meteorologist Zach Taylor said. That typically happens at least a couple of times in the US winter, he added.

Still, to Eboni Jones of Des Moines, it felt unusual for “how much we’re getting all within one week”.

“It’s pretty crazy out,” Jones said while shoveling snow.

The temperature in parts of Iowa could dip as low as -14F (-26C) on Monday, when the state’s caucuses kick off the US presidential primary season. That was to say nothing of the wind: forecasters said it would be Wednesday before below-zero windchills went away.

Republican contenders Ron DeSantis, Nikki Haley and former president Donald Trump all canceled campaign events because of the winter storm.

Electricity was out Saturday afternoon in hundreds of thousands of households and businesses, mainly in Michigan, Oregon and Wisconsin, according to PowerOutage.us. Roughly 150,000 were without power in Michigan, while that number jumped to 200,000 for those in Oregon and Wisconsin.

In other places, if the problem wasn’t snow and wind, it was water: Record-high tides hit the north-east on Saturday afternoon, flooding some homes in Maine and New Hampshire.

The coastal north-east was pounded by 1-2in (2.5-5cm) of rain in the morning, and a storm surge amplified what was already the month’s highest tide, the National Weather Service meteorologist Michael Cempa said. In Portland, Maine, a gauge recorded a 14.57-ft (4.4-metre) difference between high and average low tide, topping a prior record of 14.17ft (4.3 metres) set in 1978.

In South Dakota, the morning temperature was -17F (-27C) at the Crow Creek Sioux reservation, but a whipping wind of 30mph (48 km/h) made it feel like -48F (-44C). With a homeless shelter already at capacity, tribal leaders opened a gym for others needing shelter.

In New York state, the governor, Kathy Hochul, warned of a “dangerous storm” as she announced that the Buffalo Bills-Pittsburgh Steelers NFL playoff game had been postponed from Sunday to Monday. Residents of the county that includes Buffalo were told to stay off the roads starting at 9pm Saturday, with the forecast calling for 1-2ft (0.3-0.6 metres) or more of snow and winds gusting as high as 65mph (105 km/h).

Kansas City, Missouri, was scheduled to host a frigid playoff game Saturday night, hosting the Miami Dolphins. The temperature at kickoff was expected to be -2F (-18C), with the wind making it feel like -24F (-31C).

Back in the Des Moines area, Grant Rampton was making the best of the weather. The 25-year-old was sledding with friends Saturday at a golf course, despite a wind chill of -20F (-29C). He fought off the cold with layers of clothing, insulated socks and constant movement.

“It’s a great state to be in,” said Rampton, a lifelong Iowan. “There’s not as much to do, in winter especially, but you can make your own fun, like out here, sledding with your friends.”

The snow was welcome in at least one place.

Philip Spitzley of Lake Odessa, Michigan, woke up Friday to 95 small snowmen in his front yard to celebrate his 95th birthday. Fifteen family members and a neighbor had collaborated on the snow-packing job, which took about 90 minutes.

“I was quite surprised,” Spitzley said. “I sat right here watching my TV and didn’t know they were out there. Then I saw flashlights.”

The display has turned into a spectacle as motorists slow down for a look. With days of cold weather ahead, “they’ll be there awhile,” Spitzley said.
