HANDLING CRITICISM

Our ability to take criticism can make or break us. No one is indifferent to criticism it causes us to respond either positively or negatively. If you want to do great things for God, there will always be someone who doesn’t want to participate.

Taking a Positive Approach:

There is a saying that “what goes around comes around” If you are a critical negative person, life will treat you badly. On the other hand, if you have a positive joyous outlook, the joy you share will be returned to you.

There are two kinds of people who are highly subject to criticism. The first group are the leaders. Aristotle said it well, “Criticism is something you can avoid easily by saying nothing, doing nothing and being nothing.” One of the costs of leadership is criticism. If you are willing to stand apart from the crowd you are putting yourself in a vulnerable position to receive some degree of criticism.

Don’t let that keep you from, being all you can be.“Rise above it

Besides leaders, the other group of individuals who are prone to criticism are the “leapers”. People who leap into the public eye because they are change agents. Many years ago, the medical community strongly opposed the idea of vaccinating children against disease because it was new and unknown. People who make discoveries and create inventions find it takes time for people to accept their ideas because people fear change. Unless God has raised you for this very thing, you believe and stand for, you will be run over by the opposition of men and devils: but if God be for you, who can be against you? Are all of them together stronger than God? Be not weary in doing good.

The question for leaders and leapers is not “Will I be confronted with criticism?” but “How can I handle and learn from criticism and confrontation”?

It is possible to learn how to take criticism successfully.

The following are TEN TIPS FOR TAKING CRITICISM

  1. Understanding the difference between constructive and destructive criticism: Is it positive criticism that builds you up or negative criticism to tear you down? To determine the motive behind the confrontation, ask yourself some questions, first in what spirit is it given? Look beyond the words and determine the motives. Is the critic projecting a gentle attitude or a judgmental attitude? If your critic’s attitude is kind, you can rest assured that the criticism is meant to be constructive.Second, when is the criticism given: Times of confrontation must be shared privately, not within public view or hearing. Third, why is the criticism given? Is it for personal benefit and growth or is it given firm personal hurt?
  1. Don’t take yourself too seriously: If you can develop the ability to laugh at yourself, you will be much more relaxed when given or given criticism.
  2. Look beyond the criticism and see the critic: When someone comes to you with news about another person, be more interested in the person who said it than what was said.

Keep in mind certain considerations regarding your critic! First, is it someone whose character you respect? Adverse criticism from a wise man is more to be desired than the enthusiastic approval of a fool. Second, is this person frequently critical? Is criticism a pattern? If so, don’t place too much value on what they say. Possibly it is a way to get attention. Criticism from a positive person on the other hand probably deserves your attention.

  1. Watch your attitude toward the critic: A negative attitude toward criticism can be more destructive than the criticism itself.

1 Pet 2:21-23. Provides the right attitude towards criticism.

Could it be that a poor attitude reveals the fact that we have trusted in ourselves rather than in God who knows the entire situation? If we trust Him and are obedient, we can expect some criticism. He has called us to love those who are critical of us.

  1. Realize that good people get criticized.

Jesus, whose motives were pure and whose character was spotless, was called a glutton. (Matt 11:19) a drunkard (Lk 7:34) a Samaritan (Jn 8:48) and a friend of sinners (Matt 11:19 and Mak 2:16). If our lives are Christ-like like we can expect criticism.

These are times when we should see criticism. So, if you are living on a higher plane than the world expect some criticism.

  1. Keep physically and spiritually in shape: Physical exhaustion has a tremendous effect on the way we act and react: it distorts the way we see and handle life. It’s a simple fact of life that our minds and bodies need rest.

Elijah succumbed to opposition when he was in a state of weariness. Jezebel was a firecracker, and her opposition sapped the preacher’s strength. Elijah complained, “It is enough, now, O Lord, take away my life: for I am no better than my fathers (I Ki 19:4). Elijah was completely shaken. Watch weariness because satan will take advantage when we become overly tired, we become overly critical, and at the same time, we are less able to handle criticism from others.

  1. Don’t just see the critic if there is a crowd: The following story illustrates this point. George Bernard Shaw, the Irish playwright certainly had his critics, but he knew how to handle them. After one opening, a critic voiced his displeasure. He said, It’s rotten! It’s rotten” To which Shaw replied, “I agree with you perfectly, but what are we two against so many”!
  2. Wait for a time to prove them wrong. Time is your best ally: it allows you to prove yourself right. If you know your action or decision was right, hang there. Time will prove you out.
  3. Surround yourself with positive people. When you have optional time, spend it with people who will build you up. Enough quality time with positive people will minimize the effect of negative criticism. It will also discourage you from being critical. When an eagle is attacked by crows, he does not counterattack. Instead, he soars higher and higher in ever-widening circles until the pests leave him alone. So rise above the criticism. It is hard to soar like an eagle if you identify yourself with turkeys!
  4. Concentrate on your mission: Change your mistakes. Most people do exactly the opposite – they change their mission and concentrate on their mistakes. If you run from your task each time you make a mistake, you will never accomplish anything. You will always be in a state of frustration and defeat. The only real mistakes in life are the mistakes from which we learn nothing.
  5. To build a strong relationship you need to know how to take criticism gracefully, but there are also times when you will have to be the critic. It is possible to confront without ruining a relationship, but use caution because careless confrontation can be devastating.

TROOP CHURCH

Eli Troop church was conducted physically by Sol. Gesha in Trichy.

Testimonies:

Sol.Gesha: God spoke to me to start a troop church in Sol.Maithili’s house. Marvelously, God acted in their family. Her husband was bedridden due to an accident for a month. After the operation also he couldn’t walk. The doctor told Sol. Maithili that her husband needs to be operated on again to walk. By God’s grace, he started walking by week 6 of the troop church. God gave them spiritual strength throughout the troop church not only to walk but also to proclaim say the word of God to others. There was no revenue during these days because her husband couldn’t work. But God gave them revenue through another person to whom they had given money a long time ago. They didn’t even expect that the person would give them money. Sol. Maithili’s daughter married a non-believer and was converted. She fought with her husband and came to her mother’s home during week 2 of the troop church. After attending the troop for 2 weeks she went back to her home carrying a bible with her. Glory to God!

DAVID SCHOOL OF WORSHIP

David School of Worship was conducted by Sol. Richa Jain from 9th January to 16th January 2024 in Delhi.

Jesus said to her, “Woman, believe me, the hour is coming when neither on this mountain nor

in Jerusalem will you worship the Father.

You worship what you do not know;

we worship what we know, for salvation is from the Jews.

But the hour is coming, and is now here,

when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth,

for the Father is seeking such people to worship him.

God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.”

LOT AND THE STRANGERS

In Genesis 19:1-29 That evening the two angels came to the city of Sodom. Lot was sitting near the city gates and saw them. He got up and went to them. He bowed to show respect and said, “Sirs, please come to my house, and I will serve you. There you can wash your feet and stay the night. Then tomorrow you can continue your journey. “The angels answered, “No, we will stay the night in the city square. “But Lot continued to ask them to come to his house, so they agreed and went with him. Lot gave them something to drink. He baked some bread for them, and they ate it. That evening, just before bedtime, men from every part of town came to Lot’s house. They stood around the house and called to Lot. They said, “Where are the two men who came to you tonight? Bring them out to us. We want to have sex with them. “Lot went outside and closed the door behind him. He said to the men, “No, my friends, I beg you, please don’t do this evil thing! Look, I have two daughters who have never slept with a man before. I will give my daughters to you. You can do anything you want with them. But please don’t do anything to these men. They have come to my house, and I must protect them.” The men surrounding the house answered, “Get out of our way!” They said to themselves, “This man Lot came to our city as a visitor. Now he wants to tell us how we should live!” Then the men said to Lot, “We will do worse things to you than to them.” So the men started moving closer and closer to Lot. They were about to break down the door. But the two men staying with Lot opened the door, pulled him back inside the house, and closed the door. Then they did something to the men outside the door—they caused all these evil men, young and old, to become blind. So, the men trying to get in the house could not find the door. The two men said to Lot, “Are there any other people from your family living in this city? Do you have any sons-in-law, sons, daughters, or any other people from your family here? If so, you should tell them to leave now. We are going to destroy this city. The Lord heard how evil this city is, so he sent us to destroy it.” So Lot went out and spoke to his sons-in-law, the men who had married his other daughters. He said, “Hurry and leave this city! The Lord will soon destroy it!” But they thought he was joking. The next morning at dawn, the angels were trying to make Lot hurry. They said, “This city will be punished, so take your wife and your two daughters who are still with you and leave this place. Then you will not be destroyed with the city.” When Lot did not move fast enough, the two men grabbed his hand. They also took the hands of his wife and his two daughters. The two men led Lot and his family safely out of the city. The Lord was kind to Lot and his family. So after the two men brought Lot and his family out of the city, one of the men said, “Now run to save your life! Don’t look back at the city, and don’t stop anywhere in the valley. Run until you are in the mountains. If you stop, you will be destroyed with the city!” But Lot said to the two men, “Sirs, please don’t force me to run so far! You have been very kind to me, your servant. You have been very kind to save me, but I cannot run all the way to the mountains. What if I am too slow and something happens? I will be killed! Look, there is a very small town near here. Let me run to that town. I can run there and be safe.” The angel said to Lot, “Very well, I’ll let you do that. I will not destroy that town. But run there quickly. I cannot destroy Sodom until you are safely in that town.” (That town is named Zoar, because it is a small town.) Lot was entering the town as the sun came up and the Lord began to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah. He caused fire and burning sulfur to fall from the sky. He destroyed the whole valley—all the cities, the people living in the cities, and all the plants in the valley. Lot’s wife was following behind him and looked back at the city. When she did, she became a block of salt. Early the next morning, Abraham got up and went to the place where he stood before the Lord. Abraham looked down into the valley toward the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah. He saw clouds of smoke rising from the land, like smoke from a furnace. God destroyed the cities in the valley, but he remembered what Abraham had said. So, God sent Lot away from those cities before destroying them.

PROPHECY NEWS

FIRST CYCLONE OF 2024, ALVARO, STRIKES MADAGASCAR

Tropical Cyclone Alvaro made landfall in southwest Madagascar on January 1st, 2024, marking the first significant cyclone impact on the island nation in the ongoing 2023-2024 cyclone season for the southwest Indian Ocean region. This season, spanning late October to May has brought unprecedented challenges to the region, with Alvaro being the latest cyclone to wreak havoc.

Impact of Current Cyclone Alvaro

According to the latest data, Cyclone Alvaro has left a trail of destruction, affecting over 17,200 people in Madagascar. Unfortunately, the toll includes at least 5 reported deaths and 8,400 individuals displaced in this southern African country known for its rich biodiversity, including vanilla and lemur populations. The actual death toll could potentially be higher, as rescue and recovery efforts are still ongoing.

Recent Cyclones Hitting Madagascar

Madagascar, prone to violent storms, has been facing a series of cyclonic events in recent times. In January 2023, Cyclone Cheneso struck the northeast, impacting over 90,000 residents. Last February, Cyclone Freddy made landfall on the southeast coast, resulting in 17 fatalities and displacing 19,000 individuals. The cumulative impact of these successive cyclones has tested the country’s resilience and disaster management capabilities.

Alvaro’s Strikes Vulnerable Regions

Cyclone Alvaro has particularly affected provinces like Atsimo-Andrefana in southwestern Madagascar, which already face immense flooding challenges during heavy rains. The cyclone has exacerbated these issues, hampered evacuation efforts and drained excess water towards the sea. This highlights the vulnerability of certain regions that are prone to natural disasters and the urgent need for targeted interventions.

Formation and Intensification

Alvaro originated on December 31, 2023, marking the onset of the 2023/24 South-West Indian Ocean Cyclone season. By January 1, the storm intensified into a severe tropical storm, reaching its peak strength with sustained winds of 110 km/h (70 mph). The cyclone maintained its intensity until making landfall, after which it rapidly weakened over the mountainous terrain. On January 2, Alvaro was categorized as an overland depression. However, as it exited into the Indian Ocean on January 3, it quickly re-intensified into a tropical storm.

Impact and Response

Meteo Madagascar issued a yellow alert on December 31 for the districts of Morondava, Manja, Morombe, and Toliara, advising residents and mariners to exercise caution. Following landfall, the alert was upgraded to Red. The National Bureau of Risk and Disaster Management reported the relocation of over 400 individuals to safety at six evacuation sites. Eight houses, six schools, and various other structures suffered severe damage, with the regions of Haute Matsiatra, Atsimo-Andrefana, and Menabe being the worst affected.
