Message for reflection – Sr. Angelica AJ

God gives justice to his elect

Yesterday I met a lady in the train. We had a few hours to travel together and shared about many things of common concern. I came to know that she lost her husband in Kargil war against Pakistan and became a widow at the age of 35. Her daughter was 9 years then. Even though she is from a non Christian background, she believed that everything that happens in one's life is as per God's will. I was wondering where she got this essence of deep Christian spirituality. May be from the Christian missionaries who  taught her grandfather (who was a doctor) who passed it on to his generation.

One incident which she shared with me made me add her to my contact list.  Her daughter had a ligament tear. While she was admitted in the hospital, the girl was a little anxious whether she will be able to walk normally or she will end up in limping. The mother answered,

"If it is God's will for you to limp lifelong, let it be done. If it is God's will that you walk normally, your leg will be allright. He knows which is best for you. Stop worrying. Worrying will eat away all your energy and the joy of living."

The Christian doctor who was on the other side, treating another patient, overheard how this mother was counseling her daughter. He initiated this mother into motivational lectures and now she is serving the society in many ways.

I have seen Christians and non-believers wandering here and there, with prayer requests. I want this non-Christian lady to counsel them.

Paul said, he prayed three times to God to remove his weakness. He got a reply and then stopped praying. He accepted his weakness, put his trust in God who strengthened him and started his race for ministry.

Luke 18:7  And will not God give justice to his elect, who cry to him day and night? Will he delay long over them?

Soldiers of God, learning to accept the will of God in your life is the greatest lesson of spirituality. If you won't lifelong you will be carrying a baggage of "prayer request" running up and down, changing churches, prophets, pastors and end your life in hopelessness.Put your trust in the Lord and pray with Confidence. God will make a note of it and answer you at the right time. We need patience.

Heb 10:35 Therefore do not throw away your confidence, which has a great reward

Kidnapped Baptist Pastor in Nigeria Freed after 17 Days of  Torture

JOSNigeria, September 5, 2019 (Morning Star News) – A Baptist pastor kidnapped last month in Nigeria was released over the weekend after his family and Christian leaders paid a ransom, sources said. Muslim Fulani herdsmen in Kaduna state who abducted the Rev. Elisha Noma on Aug. 14 received 3 million naira (US$8,181) before freeing him on Saturday (Aug. 31), the chairman of the state chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) told Morning Star News. “He was released after a ransom was paid following series of negotiations with the bandits on the ransom,” the Rev. Joseph Hayab told Morning Star News in a text message. “We thank God for his mercies. We pray for God’s intervention in the calamity that seems to have befallen us as a nation.”

Pastor Noma, 60, of the Baptist Church Ungwan Makeri in Kaduna, identified the kidnappers as armed herdsmen. After his release, he received medical treatment for injuries while in captivity. His left hand was broken, and his captors switched on their phone to let his family hear him cry in pain as they beat, cut and burned him to compel them to pay the ransom, according to CAN. He was left with scars from burns on his head and face. In August alone, more than 40 pastors in Nigeria were either kidnapped or suffered some form of violence from herdsmen or Boko Haram terrorists, according to figures obtained from CAN. “We will also continue to call on the government and the security agencies to do everything within their powers to stop the increasing spate of criminality across the country, especially the increasing wave of kidnappings in Kaduna state,” Pastor Hayab told Morning Star News.

James Kantiyok, a deacon at the kidnapped pastor’s church, expressed joy over his release in spite of mistreatment while in captivity. “We can’t hold back our joy for his freedom, despite all he went through,” Kantihok told Morning Star News. “Let’s all pray for his total recovery as he is currently receiving medical treatment. We thank you all for praying with the family and the church.” About 20 Muslim Fulani herdsmen kidnapped Pastor Noma and his son, Emmanual Noma, after storming their home at about 1 a.m. on Aug. 14. They released the pastor’s son a few hours later with a demand to raise 20 million naira (US$55,155) in ransom. The kidnappers later lowered the demand to 7 million naira (US$19,304), Pastor Hayap told Morning Star News at that time.

In the city of Kaduna on Aug. 4, Fulani herdsmen killed pastor Jeremiah Omolewa of Living Faith Church in the Romi New Extension area of the city and kidnapped his wife, a church source told Morning Star News. Attacked along the Kaduna-Abuja highway on their way to Abuja, he was killed when the herdsmen shot at their car after the pastor finished leading three services at his church, the source said. Pastor Omolewa’s wife was released after the church paid 3 million naira (US$8,273) to the herdsmen as ransom, the source said. A press statement from the church reported that the ransom was paid after negotiations with the herdsmen brought the amount down from 10 million naira (US$27,577). She was released on the Aug. 8 at about 10 p.m. Nigeria ranked 12th on Open Doors’ 2019 World Watch List of countries where Christians suffer the most persecution.

Archaeologists Discover Mosaic Potentially Showing the Location of Jesus’ Feeding of the 5,000

Archaeologists in Israel have unearthed a centuries-old mosaic potentially depicting the miracle of Jesus feeding the 5,000, according to CBN News. The mosaic, discovered on the floor of an early Christian Church, might reveal more about where the miracle occurred. “Observed for the first time in about 1,600 years, the mosaic’s colors are bright and its subjects unmistakable,” an article by Haaretz said. “Their interpretation is another matter.” The mosaic was found inside the “Burnt Church,” one of at least seven churches in Antiochia-Hippos. Archaeologists believe the church was burned down during the Sasanian conquest in the 7th century. But the ash from the fire actually served to preserve the colorful mosaic on the floor below.

In the nave of the Burnt Church on the mosaic are two triplets of fish — six in total. Each set features a large, medium, and small fish. Besides the fishes is a basket of bread containing five loaves. “There can certainly be different explanations to the descriptions of loaves and fish in the mosaic, but you cannot ignore the similarity to the description in the New Testament: for example, from the fact that the New Testament has a description of five loaves in a basket or the two fish depicted in the apse, as we find in the mosaic,” Dr. Michael Eisenberg, head of the excavation team in Hippos on behalf of the Institute of Archaeology at the University of Haifa, Israel, said.

The discovery brings the location of the miracle into question. Many believed that the multiplication happened at what is now called the Church of the Multiplication in Tabgha, on the northwest side of the Sea of Galilee. But, another theory has proposed the miracle occurred in Hippos, where the mosaic was discovered. Eisenberg notes the possibility of this theory because the mosaic in the Hippos church show five loaves of bread, instead of four at the church in Tabgha, which is consistent with the gospel narratives. Eisenberg hopes that clearing the remaining 10 percent of the mosaic in the next excavation season might bring more clarity. In addition to the mosaic, researchers discovered a poorly written Greek account of a martyr named Theodoros. Unfortunately, little is known about the man. The church’s doors were also discovered that revealed a pair of door knockers in the form of roaring lions.

Prophecy NEWS Update

Drone Warfare/Terrorism Only Just Beginning

The vulnerability of infrastructure to drone terrorism was just laid bare this week as ten drones launched by Iran-backed militants sparked a huge fire at the world's largest oil processing facility and a major oilfield in Saudi Arabia where over 5 percent of the world's daily supply is produced. Yemen's Houthi rebels, considered an Iranian proxy force in the region, have claimed responsibility for the attacks at Abqaiq in Buqayq, which contains the world's largest oil processing plant, and Khurais, which contains the country's second largest oilfield.

The fires have now been brought under control but the disruption is still expected to have an impact on oil prices around the world as the flow of oil is disrupted with some estimates suggesting 50% of Saudi output could be temporarily affected. Last week Hamas militants used a drone to drop a bomb on the Israeli side of the Gaza-Israel perimeter fence hitting a military vehicle, marking the first time an attack occurred with a drone piloted from Gaza.

During the same time period Hezbollah shot down an Israeli drone performing reconnaissance over Lebanon and last month Iran shot down a US drone flying over the Strait of Hormuz, almost sparking a larger conflict. Drone and anti-drone conflict is on the rise worldwide and many experts fear the use of weaponized drones by lone individuals or small groups--some acting as proxies of nation-states, on US soil is only a matter of time.

The Department of Homeland Security and the FBI have declared unmanned aerial systems, or drones, as one of the greatest national security threats to America -- rating it as severe a concern as cybersecurity hacks, critical infrastructure attacks, and terrorism. Civilian drones pose a "steadily escalating threat," as the devices are likely to be used by terrorists, criminal groups or drug cartels to carry out attacks in the U.S., FBI Director Christopher Wray previously told a Senate committee.

"The FBI assesses that, given their retail availability, lack of verified identification requirement to procure, general ease of use, and prior use overseas," drones will be used in an attack in the U.S. including "a mass gathering," Wray said. One nightmare scenario universally feared by law enforcement and security services is the use of a small drone to deliver chemical or biological agents in an attack. It is already well-established that al-Qaeda and other terrorist groups have long sought to engineer a spectacular attack in the West using weapons of mass destruction. The possibility that drones could be used to disperse deadly agents or viruses over public gatherings is a harrowing prospect. Even if a drone attack fails to result in large numbers of fatalities, the attempt could still achieve an attacker's goal of perpetuating the psychological dimension of terrorism.

Sporting events are undoubtedly one of the top targets for a drone attack. Upwards of 100,000 people attend college football games. Open air stadiums used for football, soccer, baseball and other events such as music concerts are more vulnerable than domed stadiums as the crowd, players and coaches are not protected by a shield above. Drones are already used by transnational criminal syndicates and drug cartels. On the U.S.-Mexico border, drones are being used to spy on federal law enforcement operations and smuggle contraband through the sky. The first drug smuggling incident via drone was documented in Nov. 2015. Now, it's a daily occurrence in some regions of the southern border, but it's rarely reported because they are unable to seize the devices and arrests are rare.

Many countries are now using armed drones in combat--Nigeria, Pakistan, and Turkey have recently done so--the chances for sophisticated drone technology getting into the wrong hands increases exponentially. If a terrorist group can steal or purchase a drone from a rogue state or corrupt military or intelligence officials, then they could rely on the myriad online videos posted that essentially demonstrate how these unmanned systems could be used to conduct an attack.

In Syria, the Islamic State has successfully used drones to conduct surveillance and reconnaissance in addition to carrying out offensive actions like dropping explosives on an adversary's military base. The most well known drone attack was the attempt last year to assassinate Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro. That the drones were able to get so close to the leader at a public outdoor event in Caracas, Venezuela, speaks to how easy drones are to use--and how difficult they are to defend against. The most recent attack in Saudi Arabia was only 10 drones. More advanced militaries in China and Russia have already shown that drone swarms of 100 or more controlled by AI are possible and how they can defeat almost any defensive measure currently available. It is clear that a new era of warfare (& terrorism) is just getting started and we should expect more drone related conflicts in the days ahead.
