MESSAGE FOR REFLECTION
‘SHOULD YOU HELP THE WICKED AND LOVE THOSE WHO HATE THE LORD?
2 Chron 19:1-3 “Then Jehoshaphat the king of Judah returned safely to his house in Jerusalem. And Jehu the son of Hanani the seer went out to meet him, and said to King Jehoshaphat, ‘Should you help the wicked and love those who hate the Lord? Therefore the wrath of the Lord is upon you. Nevertheless good things are found in you, in that you have removed the wooden images from the land, and have prepared your heart to seek God.’”
This verse speaks about how Jehoshaphat recovered after allying with Ahab
1.HE FACED A DIRECT REBUKE, AND ACCEPTED IT.
Key points:
a.Jehu didn’t mince words:“Should you help the wicked and love those who hate the Lord?” That’s the issue.
b.God hates unequal alliances
2 Cor 6:14-17. “Wrath is upon you”: God was displeased. Jehoshaphat nearly died in battle 2 Chron 18:31. That was mercy — God spared him when he cried out.
c.“Nevertheless good things are found in you”: God doesn’t cancel Jehoshaphat. He acknowledges the good 2 Chron 17:3-6. Discipline, not rejection Hebrews 12:6.
d.The charge: “You have prepared your heart to seek God.” That’s what saved him. 2 Chron 12:14 says of Rehoboam: “he did evil, because he did not prepare his heart to seek the Lord.” Jehoshaphat did.
2.HE TURNED AROUND AND LED JUDAH BACK TO GOD
2 Chron 19:4 “So Jehoshaphat dwelt at Jerusalem; and he went out again among the people from Beersheba to the mountains of Ephraim, and brought them back to the Lord God of their fathers.
THIS IS REPENTANCE IN ACTION:
a.He stayed home first: “dwelt at Jerusalem.” No more running to Samaria to visit Ahab’s house. He broke the alliance.
b.He went out personally: “from Beersheba to the mountains of Ephraim” — that’s all of Judah, south to north. The king himself did pastoral work.
c.“Brought them back to the Lord”: Hebrew shub — same word from Jer 5:3. He led national repentance. 2 Chron 15:2“The Lord is with you while you are with Him. If you seek Him, He will be found by you.”
3.HE REFORMED THE JUDICIAL SYSTEM TO REFLECT GOD’S CHARACTER — 2 CHRON 19:5-11
This is the bulk of the chapter. Jehoshaphat sets up courts and gives them a charge.
Local judges in every city — v5-7 “Then he set judges in the land throughout all the fortified cities of Judah, city by city, and said to the judges, ‘Take heed to what you are doing, for you do not judge for man but for the Lord, who is with you in the judgment. Now therefore, let the fear of the Lord be upon you; take care and do it, for there is no iniquity with the Lord our God, no partiality, nor taking of bribes.
a.Accountability: “You do not judge for man but for the Lord.” Deut 1:17 — Moses said the same.
b.God’s character as standard: “No iniquity... no partiality... no bribes.” Deut 10:17-18 describes God this way. Judges represent Him.
c.“Fear of the Lord”: Proverbs 9:10 “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.” That’s the foundation for justice.
High court in Jerusalem — v8-11 “Moreover in Jerusalem, for the judgment of the Lord and for controversies, Jehoshaphat appointed some of the Levites and priests, and some of the chief fathers of Israel... And he commanded them, saying, ‘Thus you shall act in the fear of the Lord, faithfully and with a loyal heart... And so you shall do, and you will not be guilty.
Levites and priests: They knew God’s law Deut 17:8-11. This was a “supreme court” for hard cases.2 Chr 19:11
Religious + civil law, but both under “the fear of the Lord.”
Warning + encouragement: “Deal courageously, and the Lord shall be with the good.”
v11. Joshua 1:9 - same promise.
4.WHAT CHANGED AFTER CHAPTER 2 CHRO 19?
Jehoshaphat’s reforms bore fruit immediately in 2 Chronicles 20:
2 Chron 20:3 — When Moab, Ammon, and others invaded, “Jehoshaphat feared, and set himself to seek the Lord, and proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah.” No running to Ahab. He runs to God.
2 Chron 20:15 — God answers: “Do not be afraid nor dismayed... for the battle is not yours, but God’s.”
2 Chron 20:21-22 — He puts singers in front again — like David in 1 Chron 16:42 — “when they began to sing and to praise, the Lord set ambushes.” Judah didn’t fight. God won.
2 Chron 20:30 — “Then the realm of Jehoshaphat was quiet, for his God gave him rest all around.” 1 Chron 17:9 — the promise fulfilled.
Let us learn from Jehoshaphat’s recovery
1.RECEIVE CORRECTION — He didn’t argue with Jehu. Proverbs 15:31-32 “The ear that hears the rebukes of life will abide among the wise.”
2.REPENTANCE MEANS ACTION — He went out and brought people back. Luke 3:8 “Bear fruits worthy of repentance.”
3.INSTITUTIONAL REFORM FOLLOWS PERSONAL REPENTANCE — He fixed the courts so injustice wouldn’t keep pulling Judah into sin. Exodus 23:6-8.
4.GOD RESTORES — Failure in ch. 18 didn’t disqualify him. 1 John 1:9 “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us.”By ch. 20 he’s leading worship again.
One caution: Jehoshaphat later made another alliance with Ahaziah, Ahab’s son, to build trade ships 2 Chron 20:35-37. Eliezer prophesied against it and the ships were wrecked. Even good men can repeat mistakes 1 Cor 10:12. But overall, his heart stayed true 2 Chron 20:32-33.
Bottom line: Chapter 19 shows the pattern of biblical restoration
REBUKE → REPENTANCE → REFORM → RENEWED BLESSING.
Jehoshaphat owned his sin from 18:1, turned Judah back to God, and established justice. God answered with peace 2 Chron 20:30.

FIRST THING FIRST (Haggai 1&2)
When God's people returned from exile, they went about the task of building houses for their families. Sounds like a reasonable decision, doesn't it? Well, it didn't make sense to God.
The Lord wasn't pleased that his people focused so quickly on building their own houses. "I called forth a drought on the fields... and on the labour of your hands," God told them.
As long as God's house-the temple in Jerusalem-stood in ruins, the work of his people would never prosper.
It's often the good things in life-building a house, working with the PTA, pursuing a hobby-that distract our focus from the Kingdom of God. Everyday life is a challenge. We're behind at work, the drain in the kitchen is leaking, and relatives are coming for the holidays. Certainly, there's a place for all of these things in our lives. But the key is knowing where that place is.
Once God's people set to work rebuilding the temple, the Lord honored their obedience in two ways. First, he encouraged them with his presence (2:5). Second, he blessed them (2:19).
When our marriages/ work place/ finances/ relationships hit a dry period, it could be that we've lost sight of God's legitimate claim to be first in our lives. It's a question we need to keep asking ourselves-and each other.

→Increased rupees 500/- for social security pension.

Bethseda School of Healing was conducted from 16th to 27th May 2026 by the Haryana team. 13 to 16 members participated. All the soldiers liked the classes. Soldiers found the classes to be very informative. They learnt the importance of healing in body, soul and spirit. Soldiers also learnt the biblical basis of healing. Soldiers learnt about various types of healing.

KERALA SHIGELLOSIS OUTBREAK TOPS 100 CASES IN JUNE
In a follow-up on the shigellosis outbreak afflicting Kerala state, India, on Thursday, the state health department confirmed 19 fresh cases of Shigella, pushing the total number of infections recorded this June alone to 110
In a statement, Kerala Health Minister K Muraleedharan said the fresh cases included nine from Kozhikode, three from Thrissur, two each from Thiruvananthapuram and Kannur, and one each from Kollam, Ernakulam and Malappuram.
This brings the total cases in the state since the beginning of the year to 189.
Amid a rise in shigellosis and other diarrheal diseases during the monsoon season, the Health Department has launched a statewide campaign against diarrheal diseases from June 16 to July 31, the minister said.
The campaign, being conducted in coordination with various government departments, aims to strengthen awareness and preventive measures under the slogan “Prevent diarrheal diseases, save lives.” According to the department, the campaign will focus on disinfecting drinking water sources, monitoring water quality, promoting scientific waste management, encouraging hand hygiene, and ensuring the availability of ORS and zinc at health centers.
The campaign will also stress personal hygiene, handwashing practices, sanitation measures while handling infants, and awareness about the preparation and importance of ORS, the statement said.
Shigellosis is an intestinal illness caused by a group of bacteria called Shigella. Common symptoms include diarrhea (sometimes bloody), abdominal cramps, nausea, and fever. Symptoms usually begin within two days after exposure to Shigella and typically last for five to seven days. Many people may have mild disease that gets better without medical treatment and will recover fully. However, some people, especially young children, older adults, and persons with weakened immune systems, may have severe disease that requires hospitalization. A
small number of people can develop complications such as bloodstream infections, seizures, kidney failure or arthritis.
Shigella is very infectious and spreads easily. An infected person sheds Shigella bacteria in their stool while they are sick and often for more than a week afterwards. Not washing your hands well after using the toilet can spread the bacteria. Shigella spreads from exposure to feces of an infected person, which can occur during sexual contact. It also spreads by eating foods or liquids contaminated with feces from an infected person or swallowing untreated recreational water (such as lakes or water park play fountains) contaminated with Shigella.
