MESSAGE FOR REFLECTION
DRAW ME AFTER YOU
Song of Solomon 1:4: "Draw me after you; let us run. The king has brought me into his chambers. We will exult and rejoice in you; we will extol your love more than wine; rightly do they love you."
What does it mean?
This whole book is a love poem / song between a bride and her beloved king. It is a symbolic picture of God’s love for His people, and Christ’s love for the Church.
Here’s the breakdown line by line:
1."Draw me after you; let us run"
This is the bride speaking. She’s asking to be pulled by love, not by duty.
Spiritual picture: We can’t chase God in our own strength. We ask Him: “Lord, draw me” John 6:44 “No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him”.
When He draws, we respond: “let us run”. Love makes us move fast, with joy, not dragging.
2."The king has brought me into his chambers"
The "chambers" = the most intimate, private place in the palace. No crowds, no servants. Just the king and the bride.
Spiritual picture: This is intimacy with God. Not just temple courts or outer worship, but the "secret place"
Ps 91:1. He invites us in. It’s about relationship, not religion.
In the Old Testament only the High Priest entered the Holy of Holies once a year. In Christ, we are brought into God’s very presence Heb 10:19-20.
3."We will exult and rejoice in you; we will extol your love more than wine"
Wine in the Bible represents joy, celebration, and gladness Ps 104:15.
The bride says: Your love makes me happier than any party, any pleasure.
It’s corporate too: “we will”. Love for God overflows and others join in worship.

Big idea
This verse is about initiation and response.
- God draws - The King takes the first step
- We run- We respond with eagerness
- He brings us in- Intimacy, not distance
- We rejoice- Worship is the result
John 14:23 echoes this: “If anyone loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him.”
It’s not about earning your way into the "chambers". The King brings you in. All you do is say: “Draw me”.
Let’s go deeper into those 2 points from “The king has brought me into his chambers” - Song 1:4
1.Going to the "Secret Most Holy Place"
In the Old Testament, there were 3 levels in the Tabernacle/Temple:

That "chamber" in Song 1:4 is like the Most Holy Place. It’s private, intimate, where the King Himself dwells.
What changed?
When Jesus died, Matt 27:51 “the curtain of the temple was torn in two”. That veil was the barrier.
Heb 10:19-20 “Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus, by the new and living way that he opened for us through the curtain”
So now:
- You’re invited in- Not once a year. Anytime. “Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace” Heb 4:16
- It’s not about rituals - In the OT you needed bulls, goats, and a priest. Now you come with “the blood of Jesus” as your entry pass.
- It’s secret - Matt 6:6“go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret”. This is where transformation happens. Not on stage, but in the chamber.
Just like the bride in Song of Solomon, God isn’t calling you to the courtyard to perform. He’s saying: “Come into My chambers. Let’s talk. Let Me love you.”
2.Love Relationship, Not Religion
Religion says: “Do this, don’t do that, and maybe God will accept you.”
Relationship says: “Draw me… The King brought me in.”
Look at the order in Song 1:4:
- Draw me -God initiates. Jer 31:3 “I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore I have continued my faithfulness to you.”
- The king has brought me- He does the work. You don’t climb into the chamber.
- We will rejoice- The result is joy, not burden.

Tiring, like running a race alone “Draw me, let US run” - He runs with you
Jesus condemned religion in Matt 23, but He invited relationship in John 15:15 “No longer do I call you servants... but I have called you friends”.
Wine vs Water analogy:
Religion is like drinking water to survive. Relationship is “your love is better than wine” - it intoxicates you with joy. Eph 5:18 “be filled with the Spirit” - same idea. God wants us drunk on His love, not dry on duty.
Putting both together
The "Most Holy Place" is not a place you reach by perfect behavior.
It’s a place you’re brought into by love.
Ps 27:4 “One thing have I asked of the LORD, that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life”
That’s the bride’s heart. Not more programs. More Presence.
God’s question to us today is the same as the King’s to the bride:
“Will you let Me draw you? Will you come into the chambers with Me?”

VENEZUELA EARTHQUAKE DAMAGES ADD UP TO ALMOST $20 BILLION, WORLD BANK SAYS
Almost a month after the devastating earthquakes, Venezuela has a mammoth task ahead in terms of rebuilding, rehabilitating and mitigating the social and economic damage of the biggest natural disaster in decades.
The 24 June Venezuela earthquakes could have resulted in around $19.6 billion (€17.2bn) worth of direct physical damage, according to the World Bank Group.
This significant number underscores the country's need to invest in timely, resilient reconstruction for the economy to recover.
The findings were highlighted in a Global Rapid Damage Estimation (GRADE), carried out by the World Bank and published on Thursday.
The primary aim of the assessment is to provide the Venezuelan government and development partners with early insight into the scale of the rebuilding needed, and help outline the reconstruction and recovery efforts which need the most immediate attention to recover from the large-scale disaster.
"The earthquakes have disrupted lives, damaged critical infrastructure, and created new challenges for Venezuela's recovery," Susana Cordeiro Guerra, World Bank Vice President for Latin America and the Caribbean, said in a press release.
"Recovering effectively begins with reliable evidence. This assessment gives the Government of Venezuela and its partners an early objective foundation for recovery planning, and the World Bank Group is committed to supporting that effort every step of the way," Guerra added.
Majority of damage to residential buildings
The GRADE assessment estimated that 47% of the total damage was to residential buildings, with infrastructure accounting for 27%. Non-residential buildings made up 26% of the total damage.
La Guaira state and Distrito Capital bore the brunt of the damage, accounting for approximately half of the total impact.
The World Bank Group also conducted additional analysis of the possible macro- and socio-economic implications of the earthquake, as well as what recovery could entail.
This data revealed that the pace of reconstruction will be of paramount importance in shaping how well the Venezuelan economy and society recovers.
Given the current state of public and private investment, most of the reconstruction funds would likely need to be diverted away from other less critical investment projects.
In this situation, reconstruction is expected to take over 10 years, with considerable negative effects on economic activity.
On the other hand, by prioritising rapid reconstruction and assigning higher public and private investment for this purpose, the economic and social impact of the earthquake could be greatly mitigated.
